Unless they specifically take time to learn MMA, a pro wrestler will get his ass kicked by an MMA fighter every time. so in a street fight, mma wins hmm? Some untrained schmuck vs. a guy well trained in various martial arts? Yeah, my money is going on the MMA guy. Every time. Sure, I'd be wrong once in a while, but I'd be willing to bet that 9 times out of 10, the MMA guy is going to win.

An MMA fan telling a wrestling fan to go watch real fighting makes about as much sense as an astronaut telling a sci-fi fan to go into real space

I understand the point here, it's really annoying to have MMA fans generalize wrestling fans and crap on our product. That said, it does go both ways as evidenced in this thread....

Unless they specifically take time to learn MMA, a pro wrestler will get his ass kicked by an MMA fighter every time. So guys like Regal, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, Low-Ki, Kenta, Big Zeke, CM Punk, Sheamus, Mark Henry, Kozlov, Santino, Triple H, The Undertaker, Hernandez, and countless others will get their asses kicked by mma fighters every time? Have you ever seen any of these men in a legit fight? Of course you haven't, so stop with ludicrous presumptions. Neither have you, so you saying they'd win is just as ludicrous. You could put every single one of the guys you mentioned against an average MMA fighter of equal size/weight. My money will be on the MMA fighters every time, and while I might lose a couple here and there, I'm very confident I'd come out well ahead overall.

There's actually been quite a few MMA fighters that have some experience with pro-wrestling.

MMA bores me to tears. It's basically 10 minutes of hugging and rolling on the ground, with some punching sporadically mixed in. I don't mind that other people like it, nor do I ever bring up my disdain to MMA fans, but it seems like if I am seen in a wrestling shirt by some MMA fans, they always have to remind me it's "fake." When that happens, I just do what I always do, I act shocked and tell them if they know that Lost isn't really on an island.

Being trained in MMA does not make you immune to being hit in the head (or anywhere else, for that matter) by someone. I think what he's saying is that MMA guys are trained to actually shoot for a takedown so they'll be much better at it whereas people who aren't trained probably won't get far. So are probably half of the guys in WWE from their amateur wrestling days, plus I'm sure they learn some amateur holds takedowns in wrestling training. I think people are underestimating the "wrestling" part of pro wrestling, while also assuming every MMA fighter is a wrestling expert. Actually I think there's something about Bryan Danielson that really makes him look like he could legit mess people up. Yeah he kicks people harder in fake fights than most do in real fights. Plus, his accuracy has to be great because he kicks people so hard without killing them.

I fail to see how an extensive knowledge of MMA techniques help when some dude smacks you in the head with a bottle, or whatever else is laying around.

I don't see how MMA is "real fighting" when it's got a very complex system of rules and regulations, and uses a point system where you will do substantially better by using takedowns over actually kicking someone's ass. It's a ritualized combat sport, but it's not real fighting. Real fighting on the other hand is incredibly violent and brutal, and absolutely lawless. And that's about the opposite of MMA. I'm not saying that to invalidate MMA, either (I don't religiously follow it, but I pay some attention), but to claim that ritualized combat sports are better than theatre and that the former is "real fighting" is nothing short of pretentious. Great post! I actually logged in just to respond to this post. I never thought about it in that exact way, but you are so right. A real fight would be like, two guys get into it at a bar and the situation escalates into a fight.

Yeah - you're absolutely right... Joe Schmuck who flips burgers for a living is gonna kick the living s*** out of Randy Couture in a bar fight every single time...
