Is this necessarily a good thing? Clueless corporations didn't exactly help WCW and TNA.

Didn't get it on HDNet, and won't get it now wither. They're here in Chicago tonight, and I can't even go.

Syndication is a good thing... I don't get the pessimism.
This shows that they will have money behind their business, and they already have a syndicated show in the works that will be broadcast over the air... over the air shows still do get better ratings than cable shows for the most part.
Also, since the show is being syndicated and already has a carrier that is already in the TV business, it won't take long to sell the show to local affiliates.
This is a good thing for ROH, and I can see them quickly growing into a legit #2 wrestling company in the US.

Is this necessarily a good thing? Clueless corporations didn't exactly help WCW and TNA. The fact this lot maintain over 50 TV stations and have done so for years seems to show they're a very reliable partner. Ring of Honor should be in safe hands.

Speaking as a wrestling fan that I doesn't regularly follow RoH... if it was on tv in New York I would probably watch it but I probably won't head to their site to watch it regularly.
Also a problem I could potentially see happening is if Sinclair falls into the trap of wanting to make things more like the WWE.

The only part of this that worries me is that Sinclair now owns 100%, which I guess means unless they give him a courtesy role Cary is out. I hope he really believes this is the best thing for ROH because if he does, so do I. I just really deep down hope it isn't a case of trying to get out while the getting is still good.

I LOVE this news. ROH deserves this recognition and I could easily see them making a lot out of this syndication deal. As stated above, Sinclair has been in business a while and own a bunch of stations, I fail to see any downside to this outside of the online aspect for big markets. But even then, I wouldn't be surprised if they were to sell the show to other stations, which would just help them more.
Coming from someone who got hooked on the company through the HDNet show, the idea of even better production quality, the return of some ROH Alumni, and the possibility of even more stars coming in make me a happy camper.

Fairly sure Cary will still have a major role with the company, though it'll mostly be the Sinclair guys, the venue booker, Cornette and Delirious.

I think this is awesome news. With Smackdown's move to Syfy, there are bound to be some wrestling fans who would appreciate a self-contained show with actual angles (IE, not Superstars) on broadcast TV.

I'm in Canada so I can only hope ROH comes our way, or that at least the website doesn't have any stupid regulations on Canadian viewers.
I'm really stoked about this, I don't wanna get my hopes up too high, but best case scenario if ROH catches on enough to be legitimate competition to TNA, and forces TNA to get its act together and start changing things up this could be great for ROH and even better for wrestling as a whole.

MORE ON THE SALE OF RING OF HONOR, WHAT THIS MEANS AND WHERE THEY STAND by Mike Johnson @ 6:07 PM on 5/21/2011
Obviously, the big news for Ring of Honor is the announcement that Sinclair Broadcasting has purchased the company. This actually almost happened about 18 months ago, as there were negotiations then but the two sides could not come to terms. There had been at least two other suitors who had made overtures towards buying the company from Cary Silkin in the last year as well. Sinlair is a broadcasting company with connections to markets in 22% of the United States, particularly the Southern region. The plan is to hold monthly TV Tapings, similar to what ROH did during their run on HDNet with the series likely airing on Saturday evenings. They will attempt to syndicate the series in additional markets both domestic and international, if possible as well.
In terms of the markets the company has been running, ROH will continue in those markets as well as new markets that the TV series reaches. The series will debut in September as part of the new Fall Season. The plan is to also put the series online as a way for markets that they don't reach via traditional broadcast means. ROH had been holding off on announcing new dates for some of their existing markets since those shows would be held under the new regime.
ROH will still release their house shows via DVD and they will hold Internet PPVs, although traditional PPV, including live broadcasts, are not out of the question down the line should everything fall into place. There is absolutely no timetable for returning to traditional PPV as it's not something on the radar as much as something they are open to if there is a call or need for it.
We've been asked what this might mean for the library of ROH on HDNet matches. I am told that HDNet retains the rights to the content for high definition broadcasting but ROH would have access and rights to the material if it is used in standard definition, which is probably why we haven't seen those matches released via the Blu-Ray format.
The ROH staff and roster will remain intact, although I would be shocked if there aren't changes made as time goes on, as is common when any company undergoes a regime change.
The sale means an increase in power for Jim Cornette, although Hunter Johnston will remain booker. Cornette had been consulting on the booking and will be working full-time for the company going forward, which explains why he hasn't been working with OVW in recent weeks. I believe Cornette may have been the initial point person between Cary Silkin and Sinclair, but I don't know that for sure.
Joe Koff of Sinclair will be the Chief Operating Officer of the company while former WCW Promoter Gary Juster will be Vice President and will oversee all of the live event aspects of the company. There will be upgrades for production, lighting, etc. as well.
As noted earlier, all of the previous braintrust for the company will be remaining in place, although I don't know what their new positions of power will be.
The majority of the ROH roster are signed to deals. I would assume the remaining members who aren't signed will be offered deals or will be replaced by talents that will.
In terms of the ROH product, I am told that there will be no major overhauls to the style but we may see some additional WWE level names that would have name recognition (and who could work the style) plugged into the roster, similar to the way Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas have over the last year.

There are some great WWE guys who could work that style. Paul Burchill? I wonder if they'll sign OVW guys like Mike Mondo and Cliff Compton.

Paul Burchill would be a beast in ROH, not a bad thing at all, other guys I wouldn't be opposed to (and I'm assuming they'd be interested) include Trevor Murdoch, MVP, Low Ki/Kaval.
I wouldn't mind seeing Luke Gallows get a shot....he could make an awesome bodyguard and would be HUGE compared to most ROH wrestlers.

This is an epic upswing for ROH; a virtually-guaranteed TV presence in a fair number of markets, along with improved exposure for its live product. If it works out as well as it just might, ROH may well overtake TNA's #2 position, _and_ start cutting into Vince's business as well (assuming Sinclair lets them do what they do best and only helps strengthen any weaknesses.) I'm happiest for the talent, actually; this will open up the market considerably for independently-trained wrestlers and help them negotiate better terms for themselves.

I wonder if there is a "buy back" clause in the sales contract that states Cary Silkin will be given an opportunity to buy back ROH from Sinclair in the event that it doesn't perform well under the corporation's control? I hope so, because Sinclair now owns it 100%, which means this could be the beginning of the end for ROH if the corporate execs decide to axe it somewhere down the line. Edit: And I hope Punk stays dissatisfied with WWE so that he'll return to ROH once his contract is up later this year!

I wonder how deep Sinclair's pockets are; deep enough to bring in a top flight talent who may not be happy in WWE and who's contract is expiring shortly? Wouldn't CM Punk be the ideal guy to bring in?
Edit: I see someone beat to the punch on Punk.
