Calling it subbing for his bro is certainly not nonsense comparing it to switching a pro hockey player in though? THAT'S going overboard. I'm 100% sure that if they had told them, and proven, right off the bat "This is his his twin brother--can he take the shot?", there would have been no problems with it. The check would have gone to the same family either way. There isn't a single thing dishonest about it except that the boy who should've taken the shot WASN'T THERE. Oh really?! Why is it ok for a twin brother to sub to take the shot, but not someone else? Uh, maybe cause it's his brother? Under the same roof, with the same parents, with the same upbringing, and the same last name, who are gonna spend the money the same way regardless because their parents ostensibly love both equally? And come on, you used a pro hockey player as an example. That's nowhere near the level of a kid in the same age group, from the same loins, taking the same shot. Are you really gonna act like the parents would've let one kid, a minor, keep ALL that money to themselves? come on, man. COME ON. This ain't Richie Rich--this is America in 2011. If anything the money's gonna be put to purposes that help the whole family.

Stupid. Finding 200 bucks in a bag and returning it to the rightful owners, sure awesome. But this, this is just stupid.

Good to know No, finding money that probably belongs to some old lady who would need it for medication, return it. Winning a contest designed to give away money, go for it.

"Fraud is generally defined in the law as an intentional misrepresentation of material existing fact made by one person to another with knowledge of its falsity and for the purpose of inducing the other person to act, and upon which the other person relies with resulting injury or damage. Fraud may also be made by an omission or purposeful failure to state material facts, which nondisclosure makes other statements misleading." Source: definitions.uslegal.com/f/fraud/

Yea you misinterpreted what he meant, finding someone elses money and keeping it is wrong, that may be considered stealing, but this is someones brother. I could find a case for it if the brother was actually there and they switched then, but the brother was not even around, I would have gladly taken the shot for my brother. I think the fact they are twins does not mean a thing either, its freaking family, I honestly can't believe some people think this is some sort of morale redemption, it's stupid.

Oh ok, so..........what if Nate missed? Would Nick have a legit gripe? Gripe with what? Missing? He can give him grief for it but not forever. Taking his shot? Nick wasn't even in the stadium at the time--I'm pretty sure he would appreciate the sub, cause you know these promotions are limited time offers. You...don't get it.... The point is, Nate and Nick would've had to split the money somehow no matter WHO took the shot. The money would've gone to necessary expenses (at least assuming the parents had any sense). Not to a single kid, to do with what he pleases. What kind of dumbass parent would give a kid $50,000 and say, "Go ahead. Do what you want!" Bolded is important, because we've established the money would've gone to the same family either way. So who's being screwed?

To me the bigger issue is was deception used to violate the spirit of the event?
In this case - no.
We all lie, we all use deception to get what we want on a daily basis.
I don't see what the big deal is.

Someone else's money? Because I am pretty sure that 50,000 belonged to someone else.

Yeah, stupid. Mostly though because the offense is so minor. They called a name, he wasn't there so his brother did it. If it had been something, they rigged the contest, or took the ticket from someone else then yeah thats honourable parenting. But this.... not so much. And even you did want to punish them, use the money for something they can't enjoy now?

If they didn't know they were doing something dishonest why not be up front about it the entire time? 1) They're kids man. He was probably just excited to be shooting the puck in front of a huge audience. 2) It wasn't like these kids were maliciously lying to get one over. They were just kids being kids. "Hey man - I'm out of here, take my shot if they pick me." "Okay - later bro."
