They wanted Yokozuna but they got King Mabel. Well, Albert is better than both in the ring. By a lot.

Because this character sucks.
The dude beat John Cena in one could have been considered a squash match and pinned WWE Champion CM Punk tonight and the crowd couldn't give a damn. Now they're going to make it a big deal when some face beats him and the crowd still won't care.

The problem I have is that his gimmick looks absolutely ridiculous, and it looks too stereotypical, its not subtle in the slightest. And his green mist/claw finisher sucks. Its not like a sleeper hold or anaconda vise where it can come out of anywhere, he has to do that stupid dancing and spit out the mist before he does it.
Also, in my opinion most of his matches up to this point have been dull. Not bad necessarily, but dull. It also doesn't help that the WWE already has Ryback and Brodus Clay tearing through the roster at the same time as this guy.

I think it's because his matches are boring and there's nothing interesting about his character.

They should have changed it so that Yoshi came out for the few weeks prior to his debut, and complained about how he was portraying the Japanese. Then, in his debut, he squashes Yoshi (I don't like it but whatever, he already did it) and proceeds to cut a promo about his time in Japan and how it changed him (he's not THAT bad on the mic if given a chance). Finally, have him attack the one guy who could get him over as a monster heel for setting his career back in 2003....Big Show. He could do the same thing Henry did to Show except in a more deliberate manner, and he could beat Show to establish himself as a monster heel at Over the Limit or whatever.
Too late now though, he's just a talented big man without any shred of heat because of how he's been booked. Basically, Luke Gallows post SES and Husky Harris in Nexus version 2 (although Husky is fixing this in FCW).

They're not actually playing to his strengths, he's capable of better matches than the same slow, boring stuff he's been doing since he came back.
Also he looks ridiculous. He doesn't look like someone who embraced Japanese culture, he looks like a fat guy in a bad comedy movie about learning to embrace Japanese culture.

There are too many undefeated monster guys right now, and Tensai is getting lost in the shuffle. I mean, Brodus has the fun Funkasaurus gimmick working for him, Ryback is slowly starting to win over the crowd with his sheer brutality and intensity, and poor Tensai just isn't clicking with his methodical style and Japanese wrestler tropes 101 character.
It also helps the other two that they're not being pushed that heavily in comparison. I mean, the biggest name that Ryback has beat in the last month has been Derrick Bateman.

I haven't seen any of his more recent japanese matches, but it seems like he has bad knees, which would prevent him from being real quick and athletic like his first run.
Honestly I think he's getting this push because he's gonna be a championship jobber for several months. They know he can work the wwe heel style very well. Jericho's gonna be leaving soon. I mean look what they're doing for this upcoming ppv. They basically just switched the losing heels to go after the other titles. They'll have him job to Punk or Sheamus or both, then probably turn him into midcard jobber. UNLESS they actually try and develop his character. Then all bets are off.

Tensai seems out of place on RAW, now if they put him on a show like NXT and run roughshod instead of having him beat the entire main event roster of the WWE's A-show I think his re-debut would've been received better. It's not like people have forgotten who Albert is, and being a monster on the C-show is what propelled people like Mark Henry to be respected by fans and the guys in the back.
I guess its a case of smarks not buying that Albert could transform into a Superstar that deserves wins over CM Punk and Cena (even if they aren't clean one-on-one wins). And newer fans wouldn't find anything flashy or impressive with Tensai at all, just that he yells a lot in the ring and makes a lot of weird unnecessary 'Japanese' gyrations like a less entertaining version of The Boogeyman.
If he had an actual storyline/feud rather than just a detailed gimmick, he might be in better shape. Why isn't he on the Over the Limit card?

Tensai is kinda Umaga 2K12 for me
- WWE return in new gimmick / not immediately that much crowd reaction - Wins over two big names immediately (Umaga beat both HHH & HBK in back to back singles matches)
Tensai needs his version of the John Cena/Umaga series and he's golden.

i think the proper question should be, what is right with Lord Tensai? The whole thing has been doomed to fail since the moment everyone knew it was Albert..The thing Albert had goin for him, espically in Japan was how quick, intense, and just plain badass he was in the ring. He had an attidue and you honestly thought he would break you in half. There was no one in Japan really close to his sze, so he just dominated and looked great doing it.
Tensai is everything that makes Albert boring..its a stupid character that has no depth. You can look at him and it looks like Albert is going trick or treating for the night. He doesnt come across as a person, just Albert playing dress up. His motions and his body movements as so steretypical and BORING. Hes so SLOW, they have him try to act like a ninja and be stealthy, yet hes a 350lb man with tats covering his body, there should be no stealth to it. He is forced to wrestle a 'japanese" style, aka chops, pause...move....pause...pause...pause...and its just killing him.
Its such a shame to see Albert put in these shoes, he must feel so uncomfortable and out of place everytime he is out there looking like a supersize super shredder and trying to pretend to move like the great Muta. I think he can be saved though!
I would have him wrestle as Tensai for about 2 more months, but every week he slowly starts to become more like Albert..or A-Train.. I would have him wrestle on raw for about a month and then have him lose in a fluke way to someone like Kofi, or Santino..
During the match he does his long boring moves, pauses like always, does another move and while hes doing his "motions" you know the whole trying to be a sneaky ninja thing, he gets rolled up and loses his first match. Have him be shown in the ring with a disappointed gaze in his face while he looks straight ahead, have his little servant guy come up and like kind of pat him on the back/encourage him..and Tensai just looks off into the distant.
Next week he wrestles someone like Truth or Zach Ryder. During his entrance he looks much more focused, he isnt slowly walking to the ring, he is not doing any lame motions or trying to come across as Lord Tensai. He gets in the ring and begins to dominate like He should. High impact move, after high impact move, while the whole time he is yelling at his opponent in English and talking trash. Albert ends up winning with a Baldo Bomb or the Derailer and delivers it 2-3 times to his opponent, which ends up getting his dqed and the decision reversed. Tensai then starts to freak out and put his hands on his face like hes gonna go crazy, but instead of screaming he starts to rub off that stupid Tatoo type thing on his head.
he starts rubbing it off and the camera zooms out and his servant is behind him kinda of with a WTF look on his face..he goes to pat Albert on the back, but Albert turns around and BAM! hits a derailer on him. Later on the night, The GM goes in the back to ask Tensai just what in the hell he thinks he's doin, and who he thinks he is, but when he walks into the dressing room, he finds the servant Laid out, with the Tensai attire, mask and everything thrown over the body.
The, during the Main event, say CENA VS MIZ or something, its a lumberjack match and the announcers take note of how Tensai is missing from ringside and start to wonder whats going on. During the match it ends up in a big brawl and as the ring starts to fill up, all of a sudden The steam from the entrance way starts up and you hear the familiar atrain music! Train comes out and just destroys everyone...it leads to 3 people in the ring, Train, Cena and Big Show...Show and Cena both attack Train but they have no affect, train gets the derailers to Cena and powerbombs the big show onto the floor. Show ends with the announcers questions what the hell they just say.
Next week on raw, Train comes out and says that "8 years ago, I left this organization after I was fired by Jon Laurenitis. I went to Japan, I kicked ass ( starts naming names) and won every title there was to win there, but I never forgot who it was who fired me. 3 months ago I received a call from the same man who fired me wanting me to come back to the WWE, but not as myself...as Lord Tensai. I swallowed my pride and i came back waiting for the perfect moment to get my revnege on Jon Laurinitis, and the entire WWE. I was told how to wrestle, I was told what to wear, I was told to "not be so violent, Matt, this isnt the same WWE as when you left." Well you know what, I think this new WWE SUCKS, I think Lord Tensai Sucks, I think that entire Lockeroom sucks, and I think ALL OF YOU SUCK. The fact is people, no one can stop me..and after last week, John Cena, the Big Show...and Lord Tensai are all gone.......ATRAIN IS BACK.
then he just basically dominates a few raws, gets a ppv match and wins...eventually gets a title show in a 3 way or something but doesnt win..have him feud with the 2-3 tops faces, and let him win more than he loses. Let him be dynamic and aggressive...the people will forget all about Tensai...

he will still be a heel, but have him go after Laurinitis by attacking his superstars. He will do backstage beatdowns on Johnnys top guys...ruining main events and everyhing the Gm had planned. Eventually, Laurinitis will beg CENA or someone else to take out Atrain...for the good of RAW. whomever it would be agress to fight, but if they win..Laurnitis will have to step down as the gm of raw and smackdown...Big Johhnny reluctinly agress to this...During the match Laurinitis helps Atrain win and it is reveliev to have all ben a big set up from the beginning between Johnny and Atrain! Every last detial. Bloom then becomes Johnnys hired killer

I think the announcers are playing it too straight.
"Lord Tensai was a former WWE Superstar. He went to Japan and became an unstoppable force. A natural disaster."
Alright. That's fine. That's actually kind of a cool gimmick (especially if you can put aside Cole's "if it didn't happen in WWE then **** it" rhetoric he used during his feud with Daniel Bryan.) But what nobody seems to bring up is why, after returning from Japan, is he a walking parody of what Westerners though of Japanese people in the 60's and 70's?
If I had to pick a part of the gimmick to be offended by, it wouldn't be that he called himself Lord Tensai a year after the natural disaster messed up Japan. It would be that the announcers seem to genuinely believe he's acting authentically Japanese. There was a line about spitting green mist to blind people being a Japanese custom. The hell? That's be like saying that leg drops are an American custom. Like Americans everywhere just go leg dropping each other.
The fix?
Lord Tensai was a former WWE Superstar who went to Japan and became and unstoppable force. But he never bothered to learn any of the customs of the people of Japan. Why would he? He was obviously their better. So now, he brings his dominance back to his home country...while adopting a persona meant to mock the Japanese people.
Cole: That's Sakamoto. He's Lord Tensai's deshi. That's a Japanese word for follower or pupil.
King: Oh, come on, Cole! He's just some guy that Lord Tensai intimidated into carrying his bags! He's the Japanese Ricardo Rodriguez.
Cole: There's the green mist! A staple of Japanese wrestling!
King: I knew the Great Muta. The Great Muta was a friend of mine. This guy is not Great Muta.
Cole: The traditional Japanese tattoos that decorate Lord Tensai's face say Japanese things like "Tensai is coming!" and "Beware of Tensai!"
King: How many Japanese people do you see with tattoos on their faces, Cole? And those tattoos on his chest and arms aren't Japanese. He looks like he asked for the Goldberg tattoo and fell asleep before he could tell them to stop.

WWE dropped the ball early by having him debut with dull, slow-moving, pointless squash matches and then suddenly thrusting him into the main event.
Really, he should have debuted against Cena or at the very least, beating the stuffing out of Cena backstage to make hisdebut memorable and immediately make him look like a threat.
I do really like him though. Tensai is awesome and I love the Green Mist Claw STO.

Tensai looks like some kind of villain that always loses in kids cartoons. This! A million times, this! Tensai is a cartoon character. The "OOOOOHHH, JAPANESE!!" stuff is dumb. The green mist, while something of a neat throwback, still feels out of place in the more visceral, naturalistic world of modern WWE (even Taker has been made mortal in recent years, with much less of the lightning bolt/dry ice stuff). He really does seem like the kind of villain who has an endless cadre of faceless goons at his command, who by the end of the show will be defeated by the heroes and be shaking his fist angrily towards the sky. They should just recruit all of the NXT/Superstars jobbers, mask them, dress them in karate gis and turn them into Tensai's version of the Foot Clan ninjas. Just have faces fight Tensai and then dress them like ninjas, make Yoshi Tatsu their mentor, and make Tensai talk like Shredder from the 80s cartoon.
