Bryan also has a lot of miles on his body though and lord knows how much longer he can hold out. Plus for as much as I like him, he just doesn't connect with the crowd like Cena did and still does. I respect your opinion but to be clear....You're saying Bryan , The Guy who has thousands of people chanting YES YES YES every show is less connected to the crowd then the guy people almost rioted over at ONS? The same guy who the WWE admits that about half the fans Hate him? Love him or hate him, find me a time since 2003 where people haven't reacted to Cena. 9 years and he still gets 100% of the crowd to care about his matches, his storylines and him. You can go back to just last year and find a time people didn't make a sound when Bryan came out and that even includes a few shows after he won the WHC. Even today he seems to have chunks of the crowd that don't care. Yes, the Yes stuff has taken off now but wait 6, 8 months and lets see where he is before saying he's got a connection with the crowd like Cena does.

Either way, gonna be awesome.

What's the rush? Cena is only in his mid-30's, he could be around for another decade.

What's the rush? Cena is only in his mid-30's, he could be around for another decade. The problem is that his marketability probably won't last that long. While the company's hardly dying or anything, the ship is slowly sinking and they need someone new on top to pick business back up - especially since as it stands if they lost Cena they'd be screwed, and based on his previous injuries sooner or later his career's going to end the same way Edge's did.

What's the rush? Cena is only in his mid-30's, he could be around for another decade. Because Cena's probably running on borrowed time physically and mentally. He hasn't taken a break since 2008, when he was on injury and thus wasn't given a choice in the matter; add that to the fact that he's stretched himself to the limit doing Make-a-Wish, promotional business, guest starring and all that and a litany of personal issues we probably don't even know about (his pending divorce, for example, just being one we're finding out about now), it wouldn't be smart business to wait until Cena hits his breaking point to find a future replacement.

Richie Steamboat seems perfect for the role.
He has a marketable image. He's a good wrestler. He knows the business. He has ties to the business.
People would back the kid up surely. He's sort of the babyface down there as well, I see it going well. He has everything really. All he needs to do is hope the crowd latches onto him so they can work with that but if not then I'm not sure. Outside of him I don't really have anyone else. I would say Seth Rollins but he's not as clean as a babyface as Richie is. If they want a babyface to be the head of the company in my mind it would be him.

Yeah, he's basically been going non-stop for a about decade on the main roster with only 6 months of that not being a featured superstar (maybe missed 8 months total) all while doing Make-A-Wish, wrestling related appearances, filming movies and doing movie related appearances while having several nagging injuries, a marriage that has fallen apart and a brother who had cancer and wasn't expect to make it. And that is what we know of. Beside being smart business to be planning for the future, if Cena does keep going another decade, what does it hurt to have another major star? Or what if the guy you chooses flakes out, the fans don't take to him or he suffers a major injury, you still have Cena there and time to build/find someone else. Just looking at FCW, you have Richie Steamboat, Bo Rotunda and Seth Rollins off the top of my head who could be good in that roll knowing what little I do about the FCW guys. Even then, who would have called Cena being the next big thing back in 2000/2001?

I'm actually suprised he hasn't been mentioned more. I mean, he's arguably the most seasoned superstar in the company under 35. He's got more longevity than Punk (who, barring something big, will probably be walking in a few years). He's better on the mic than Orton, he's got a built-in fanbase, and, like Cena, I don't think I've ever heard a single bad thing about him. If they were willing to take a chance on Bryan, I could really see him being the next guy. More than Punk, Sheamus, or Ziggler, even. Bryan also has a lot of miles on his body though and lord knows how much longer he can hold out. Plus for as much as I like him, he just doesn't connect with the crowd like Cena did and still does. Actually, Bryan is VERY similar to Cena. In that Vince wanted to push Bryan as a heel, yet the crowd refuses to boo him. I'm sure Cena similarly thought a white rapper 'Thuganomics' gimmick was gonna be as annoying to fans as Bryan's YES!-- it's just natural charisma that got the crowd to side with Cena/Bryan regardless. Same with Austin. Same with Rock. But no, the correct handpickee is clearly Dolph Ziggler. He's already getting Edge's push, once he drops Vickie the crowd will cheer for him out of spite for her and the rest will be history. Of course rather than the next 'Cena' (who the crowd will always half-despise) I'd rather call him the next HBK. He's even got a 'Jannetty' in Swagger and everything!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and nominate Daniel Bryan for the role. He could be like a modern-day version of Bret Hart.

I can see D-Bry as a modern Bob Backlund, but Vince is really looking for the next Hogan. I won't guess that one.
I find the Miz overrated, his popularity continues to mystify me, and I can declare that he never will be the next Hogan or Rock as many declared. He's the next Ric Flair if he steps his game the hell up like he never had before and if he is booked right.
Ziggler already is the new Mr. Perfect. He only needs to improve and get better booking.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I wanted say: That news-bit attributed to Meltzer was twisted around. It was never implied that Vince is desperate to handpick a new Cena right now. It was an observation by Dave, given that often a wrestler's on-top tenure is around a decade, and that since Cena is about 5 years away from being on the down-turn, that whomever succeeds Cena will in all likelihood be Vince's last anointing.
That said, it is impossible handpick the next top guy. History has shown that it just happens, often without the powers that be seeing it coming, or the guy in question not seeming all that special at the onset. Hulk Hogan for example took a good 6 years to make any sort of true connection to anybody, and played a poor man's Superstar Graham until 1982. Steve Austin was somehow perceived as some sort of bland mid-card act that was let go because he was too injury prone and uninteresting to invest in. The Rock was given the keys to the kingdom in a dated, archaic style of booking, and then when Vince was ready to wash his hands of him, he reinvented himself after being given basically the Savio Vega role in the Nation. And Cena? If he hadn't have free-styled on a plane to England in the fall of 2002, and been overheard by Steph, he'd have been released. Oh, and HHH pretended to be a french guy, carried HBK's bags, and spent two years feuding with pig farmers and garbage men before anyone even gave a shit.
You never know what'll happen. And who it will happen to. It could be anyone.

Cena isn't going anywhere. In 50 years he'll overcome the odds and beat a 450 pound 7 foot tall 25 year old monster character to win his 242nd WWE Championship and cut a promo:
YOU KNOW MY OSTEOPOROSIS IS GETTIN' REAL BAD. I CANT DO THINGS LIKE I USED TO WHEN I WAS 53, LOOKS LIKE IM GONNA HAVE TO GO HOME
::Next night on RAW::
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPPPPPPPPLEDOUGHHHHHHHHH

I imagine it going like Homer at The Bat, where Mr. Burns wants to recruit a bunch of dead players Vince McMahon: Mah! Kids love those little flippy freaks like Mysterio and Sin Cara and Cena's Too old....Get me Brian Pillman. Staffer Number One: Uh sir , Brian Pillman is....Dead. Vince McMahon: You're Fired! Find those freaks on the internet like those Japanese guys and everyone loves a Giant. Call that uh...Giant Baba , Fella! Kids will go crazy for him! Staffer Number Two: Sadly , Giant Baba has also passed away. Vince McMahon: YOU'RE FIRED TOO!. Fine! I'll do it! I'll give in! Someone call Randy Savage and Tell Him I'm Sorry. Staffers Three And Four: Should...Should We tell him? *HHH shakes his head.* I'm just imagining Johnny Ace busting out in a fit of laughter at the mention of Giant Baba.

It'll probably be someone in FCW currently. Probably Seth Rollins but he's the only guy I'm familiar with.
To be the next big thing you need six things. These four things in order of importance:
-Potential of being an amazing babyface (Can't see The Miz or Ziggler) -Have to look like a guy who can kick anyone's ass (Ryder needs to get built more or show more aggression in his matches like D-Bry) -Charisma -An actual interesting character/personality -Mic Skills -Ring Ability
Of the current roster the only ones I can think of that have this potential are Sheamus, Swagger, Kofi, Otunga, Cody Rhodes, Cesaro, and Barrett. Like I said I could be dead wrong of course.
Keep in mind I don't think they should be in a rush. If CM Punk isn't going to be around till 40, he could be the guy in the transitional period similiar what HHH was during his Reign of Terror. Hell I actually think Punk could be the guy now for the next six or seven years. I think that's how long his current contract is running for. Plus keep in mind it can be someone in the current roster right now. It took Bret Hart and HBK 8 years to win their first WWE championship
Edit: Forgot to mention Daniel Bryan as one of the potentials.
