A violent psychotic who is constantly trying to stay calm and stable. A man who enjoys hurting people slowly and methodically, but is on the verge of snapping at any time. Not a damn thing implies Orton is psychotic besides his theme song. And his assaulting people he's not in direct feuds with. And his constant crossing the moral event horizon. And his attempts to cause grievous bodily harm to almost all of his opponents during his heel run, from assaulting Cena with pyro, to breaking Batista's arm. And his getting himself disqualified at SummerSlam because hurting Christian became more important than actually winning the match. ... But, apart from that, yeah, what you said. He sucks because you don't like him and stuff.

I hate the argument "Orton's never had a good match where he wasn't carried". How the hell do we know who carried who? Or if anyone did any carrying? Its just a way to admit the obvious truth that he's had great matches without giving him any credit. Those matches with Orton were the best matches Christian's had in a while too.

That is because Smackdown´s creative team is better then Raw´s creative team. And Raw's writers aren't responsible for the awful Christian / Orton feud. That feud was not awful. It gave us a lot of great matches.

One thing I really like about the title match last night, is that by the end, Orton looked like a wounded, dying animal, desperately lashing out in frustration and instinct hopelessly against the unstoppable force about to crush him. It was a perfect "predator becomes the prey" moment that both men, to their credit, sold really well.

This is what this what the Orton hate club reminds me of.
Just like Cena, hate his booking, but the performer is very good.

I'm not sure if any of you noticed, but Mark Henry corpsed when he pinned Orton. He was pissed off, then he had a big smile on his face when he pinned him, then looked pissed off again.

It was glorious. I didn't think WWE would actually go through with it but glad they did. It will just make both look strong in the long run as well. My highlight of the PPV by a mile.
And to all those people (me included) who wanted Henry to get a title shot at Orton in 2009 when Henry was red hot as a face thankfully Henry didn't miss the boat

Not a damn thing implies Orton is psychotic besides his theme song. And his assaulting people he's not in direct feuds with. Been done by many others, including John Cena, the squeaky-clean babyface who's not crazy. TV Tropes references are for the weak. Besides, this is unclear. Been done by many others, including Alberto Del Rio, the pompous, wealthy, Mexican olympian, who's not crazy. Been done by many others, including Triple H, the egotistical backtage power abuser, who's not crazy. Come on man, take this seriously.

Not a damn thing implies Orton is psychotic besides his theme song. That's been the case ever since he got it. Sorry, but no. Aside from the several storylines that have directly involved it, it comes across in his ring work. His matches always begin with him methodically picking apart his opponent, and then breaking down and becoming both more violent and more wreckless. His facial expressions and body language go from "silent, stalking predator" to "nutjob". His character is right there in his ring work, and if you can't see it you must be pretty bad at picking up in-ring storytelling. The entire psychology behind the punt is based around how his character goes from trying to win to trying to hurt. He often loses matches due to not being able to keep himself in check, like at MITB this year. His character is there in the matches, it's in the booking, and it's in the storylines. Just because you choose to ignore it doesn't mean it's not there. Dude, besides the sign for the RKO, Hogan had the exact same mannerisms of beating on his chest and rampaging around the ring when fired up. Was he crazy? No. ALL WRESTLERS WANT TO HURT THE OPPONENT. It's not unique to Randall.

You seem determined to both ignore the point I'm making, and ignore the character that has been communicated to us on TV, I don't know how else I can explain things to you. The character is there, and it comes across incredibly clearly in the way he carries himself and acts in the ring. If you want to ignore it, there's little I can say to make you change your mind.
Hogan's mannerisms are not the same, if you can't understand why that's just too bad. You keep bringing up what other people do, while ignoring the context and presentation in each individual situation. There's a difference between the way Del Rio assaults someone and the way Orton assaults someone, and it has everything to do with the differences in their characters. There's a difference between a wrestler losing their temper once or twice and a wrestler who's temper issues are a regular issue when it comes to storytelling and match psychology. It's not about individual deeds or moments, it's about the full package. Orton is consistently portrayed as this character through his actions, his body language, his storylines, the booking, etc. To say he isn't is to completely ignore what we're shown constantly.

Sad that this thread has degenerated into a referendum on the merits of Randy Orton.
I've seen most of the match on You Tube and it was very entertaining. Everybody involved told a great story, even the commentators. I really liked the bit where Henry heard the fans starting to cheer for him so he raised his fist "Black Power" style and then dismissively waved the crowd off. Great way to get that heel heat back.
Does anyone know if Henry's post match promo is available online?

I loved that alot of the crowd was "shocked"
And the people who were cheering were probably thinking the same thing alot of people on this board were.

My dislike for Henry aside, I was pretty shocked as well. It seemed like it was gonna be typical WWE booking with Orton sending Henry back to the midcard.

I hate Mark Henry, and for the most part it was just Orton running around Henry, carrying the match. But goddamn it made Henry look like a monster.

Not the best quality video, but still a great promo.

I do want to mention that I think Christian had a lot to do with the amazing build up Mark Henry had. If Christian didn't have amazing matches with Orton then I believe Henry/Orton would've happened a couple months ago. And not necessarily with the same result.
I love Henry as champ. If for no other reason then it meant Orton lost.
