I just don't want to see the origin story again. The 2001 Spiderman film covered it pretty damn well. I'm a Spidey fan but I can really do without watching the same damn story over and over again. All I want is a Spidey movie with Carnage as the main villain, but noooooo.

Being that they are going with the Ultimate origin apparently and so not totally rehashing the origin from before, it will at least be a new story.
My issue is with the cast. Andrew Garfield just doesnt strike me as the type who'd be the social outcast at school, he's pretty hot and all.
I dunno, I'll go, but I've never been a big Spider-man fan and Lizard is just a crappy villain.

I'm going in with an open mind, but I'm not overly pumped. I think the Raimi films have aged pretty badly, so I'm not tied to them in any way.
That said, I'm not really pumped for anything else this summer. I'll see Spidey, Prometheus, Dark Knight, etc on opening weekend but I think the one negative effect of The Avengers is it's such a hard act to follow. I just can't see anything topping it so I'm sort of non-plussed about anything even coming close.

The trailer really turned me around on the movie. I was annoyed with it being a reboot and an origin story yet again, but they're going with the Ultimate version which is actually pretty damn different from the usual and won't be a tired rehash. I also love that this Spidey uses web shooters and can't do it organically.
Plus Emma Stone is incredibly hot as Gwen Stacy. And a FAR better actress than Kirsten Dunst ever will be.

Bought the latest Entertainment Weekly this AM with this as a cover story, and them talking about Garfield's love for the character and the way he went about getting the gig sold me on it even more.
Plus the whole he and Emma now being an actual couple hopefully should translate to good chemistry on-screen as well.

I hated the Raimi movies, for, as mentioned above, they were NOT Spider-man. Though I agree Garfield is "cute" did Ditko and Romita ever draw Parker "ugly"? I've seen plenty of good-looking kids as social outcasts simply due to circumstance, life choices or the manipulations of fellow cast-mates. And for goodness' sakes Peter finally JOKES about stuff! But I will say the costume looks kinda sucky, and the Lizard even worse.

I recall the Maguire Spidey made wise cracks too, why do people act like he didn't?

Very...he made like one or two during the whole series...as much as I hated 3...and man, I really did, the one thing I noticed was that Topher Grace would have made a better Peter Parker. Terrible Eddie Brock, but great Parker...

Y'know what? I'm sick of that f***ing "tiny knives" joke that all the ads have. I'm still wanting to see this, but that one damn joke has become irritating.

Im convinced that Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci have pictures of all the studios presidents doing very very bad things to keep getting work. I will see Spiderman for sure although I do not know if its going to be all that great but I do know that letting these two write the sequel is bad news bears.

I love how Sony are so shallow.
Twilight is a hit! We need to do a teeny reboot featuring angst and a love story!
Avengers is a hit! We need to ditch the angst and go all out action!
How about trying to get in a bit of both?

The film apparently premiered in the UK and already has some reviews out (Currently sitting at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes via 5 fresh, 1 one rotten).
The vibe I've gotten is that the action and characters/casting is solid, the origin a little clunky, but the film itself is fairly fun, roughly around the 4/5 range.

So, it's panning out to be at least as good as Avengers, but not better than it?

Web not coming back for the sequel? Tarsem?! The man who brought us such classics as The Cell, Mirror Mirror, and The Immortals? I understand that some directors like Jon Favreau can surprise us when doing a superhero movie, but this is ridiculous.

Seems like the film is getting some positive buzz as its up to 91% at RT and Hollywood Reporter says its tracking to take in 125 million over the holiday week of its release. Obviously that's hardly an exact science, but I felt it worth mentioning.
Curious if this will be the Rise of the Planet of the Apes of this summer, turning out much better than anyone thought and doing better than expected as a result.
