Now, I know I am the only person on this site, let alone in a 50 Mile Radius, who likes this show, but I don't see why everyone has such a disdain for it

I enjoyed it at first, then it became a personal soap box for it's creator to go off on one about 'issues', while writing his supposed protagonists as some of the most self centred, arrogant and pretentious people on TV.

I'm the same, liked the first season, but mostly for the singing from Rachel and the black one I've forgotten the name of. The songs since that season have been all modern crap and the storylines have gotten steadily worse. Plus Matthew Morrison is such a twat.

Over saturation, good lord it was hell for 2 years there, every where you looked it was "Glee" this and "Gleek" that.
It was just kind of silly fun, then it became self aware and lost that. Heck, most of the folks I know who loved the first two seasons are the ones who truly hate it now.

I really enjoyed the first season and even most of the second. Then the show began to get a bit preachy and took things way too over the top.
Granted, it was always over the top to begin with but when it really began to let go, it became unwatchable to me.

I really liked the first season, it was a really funny parody. Then it seemed to start taking itself too seriously. Granted I haven't seen the latest season. Overall what I have seen was fairly enjoyable.

From what I hear, it caught Heroes disease.
Where a show that is popular in the first season starts burning through plot lines like coal in a steam train race, throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks and changing characters on a whim to fit whatever storyline is happening that week.

The problem is, the show is an absolutely ridiculous mix of brilliance and dreck.
Any time Sue is onscreen, it is still brilliant, because she just kills it in every scene she's in.
You get scenes like Will and that manly sports coach going out for drinks and getting along, and it's a real scene. You buy it, the dialogue is good.
It also sometimes tackles quite dark themes, albeit with such a hammy fist that I think a pig writes the scripts, and is a bit more brutal about it than most.
But then you have Rachel or Kurt (who, by the way, is the scariest looking motherf***er I have ever seen in my life) go on these awful tangents that end in some really minor point. It's like JD with his fantasies but more irritating.
Also Kurt is one of those guys who isn't a character, he is a characteristic/statistic.
Rachel - attention hog, a little girl with slight delusions of grandeur Finn - dumb meathead who could make something of himself, but has a heart of gold Puck - asshole who occasionally does good things, usually only for manipulative reasons. Kurt - gay.
That is his entire character. The gay guy.
Also what pisses me off is that the show 90% of the time will have a reason for songs being sung. They're rehearsing, for example.
But then completely randomly, someone will just sing how they're feeling like they're in a stage musical, out of nowhere, and other characters just join in.
You can't have it both ways. It's a musical about musicals and so it just kills any quasi-realism it originally strove for.
So to answer the question, I'll tell you what made almost everyone hate Glee, that I know of at any rate, because the same thing happened to me.
- See trailer. See it is karaoke musical. Assume it must suck. - See clip of Sue Sylvester insulting someone. Think maybe it's not that bad. - Watch it. Enjoy it until the singing starts or Rachel or Kurt have a line. - Stop watching.

Yeah, I don't like Family Guy much either. Good one. My hate, or rather disinterest, came from hearing their version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" in a Best Buy and thinking "Who ruined such a great song?"

I still like Glee, but you took the words right out of my mouth. I saw many bad things go on in Glee that happened in his previous efforts. I also think Will has became insufferable.

I'm just curious why the audience for this never dovetailed with the High School Musical crowd. I mean, it's exactly the same thing, isn't it?
it's like back when the Dave Matthews Band was still a thing, and then John Mayer existed, and I kept saying "don't they sound EXACTLY alike?" and fans of one would vehemently deny the existence of the other

I liked the show at first, but any character development was rendered nonexistent and pointless by the time the next episode aired. All the characters, at one point or another, become completely unlikable douchebags. The plotlines went from endearing or at least entertaining to ridiculous and trite. Even the music waned in quality and I didn't like the auto-tune used on a lot of it making it sound very fake and manufactured. The show no longer has a soul.
Lastly, Ryan Murphy is an egotistical, pompous asshole who lashes out at anyone who doesn't want their music to be mangled on his show like a spoiled child not getting that toy.
