Paul Daley should be taking notes! Also, I hope Pat Barry does the same to Kongo as he did to The Mexecutioner the last time he stepped into the cage. That was an awesome display of leg kickery!

I see the Kongo/Barry fight going one of three ways.
1. Kongo takes Barry down and does lazy g'n'p for 3 rounds. 2. Kongo shoves Barry to the cage to knee him in...well...the knees. Some elbows. Some punching. Maybe a single, warnable low blow if Barry starts to successfully slip out of Kongo's grip. 3. The opening of the fight is a fistfight and Barry catches Kongo for a highlight reel ending.
Of course, I've been wrong before...who expected Cro Cop to win by rear naked choke against Barry?

Looks like Barnett needs to start kissing some ass.
He should probably make sure he tests clean too. Heavyweight MMA is all under one banner now. He has practically nowhere left to fight anyone relevant if he screws up.

Anyone else pick up on this story? If so, who do you believe?

I'm with you guys 100% on that. Frank Shamrock always seemed like a class act, with a ton of respect for the sport...
... I just wanted to bump the thread with something before it got lost in the shuffle again. C'mon, somebody give us something to talk about 'round here!

Shane Carwin's next opponent is most likely...Jon Olav Einerno.
Signed on March 7th, The 35-year-old is a member of Team Golden Glory and has a 7-1 record in MMA, though he has fought just once in the last four years. His biggest claim to fame is being the only man to beat multiple-time BJJ champion Roger Gracie in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournament. Of course, that was in 2003...
Does this seem...random to anyone?

Does this seem...random to anyone? It does seem terribly random at first sight. However, common sense says that the UFC probably just threw this poor guy in the cage with Carwin so they could refuel that "monster" image he had prior to getting submitted by Brock Lesnar (of all people) back at UFC 116. The more cans you feed him, the more quick knockouts he gets, and the more money we pay when it comes time for him to fight (and lose to) one of the top dogs again.

Why pick a random outsider who has not fought since 2006 when you could just hand him Pat Barry, Schaub, Cro Cop(sadly) Kongo, Beltran, or just about anyone else?

Schaub doesn't really seem to be in "can" territory to me, can you explain your reasoning for putting him in with loads like Barry or Beltran?

Barry, Schaub and Kongo are decent fighters. The likes of Mostapha Al-Turk, THAT is a can.

Schaub is being pushed, but I see him as a soon to be jobber to the stars. Kongo only wins fights if he can pull off his signature 3 groin shots and eye gouges a round.

I dunno what their line of thinking is either, homie. The only thing I can think of is that they can bring this super random man in for the one fight with Carwin, let him be destroyed, and then they can move Carwin way back up the ladder into possible title contention without having to make anyone on the regular roster look bad. All of the guys you mentioned (save for Cro Cop, who isn't coming back regardless) have at least a decent bit of potential. Why waste that by having them get obliterated by Shane-O when you can just bring in a random can for a one-off ass whooping? I'm not sure this is the case, but it's the only thing I can think of that half makes sense.

That is a really random fight, could be interesting tho. Werdum is the only name that Einemo has faced, and he lost a decision.
Oh, and just a reminder to everyone (because I had totally forgotten about it until last night) that UFC Fight Night 24 is Saturday with probably the best non-PPV UFC card I've seen in ages:
Lil' Nog vs Phil Davis
Dan Hardy vs Rumble Johnson in what should be a good slugfest
Amir Sadollah vs DaMarques Johnson
Korean Zombie vs Leonard Garcia II which should be an absolute blast!
Don't miss this card, I can't imagine it being a disappointment

I never said any of them will be champions, but that doesnt make them cans either. Demian Maias standup is on par with Pat Barrys ground game. Is Maia a can? Being one dimensional doesnt make you a can, it makes you one dimensional. Schaub is being groomed for the big time, but he hasnt fought anyone yet. An ancient Cro Cop is not a worthwhile victory.
