Who else did? Ace has been a bastard, but Punk kinda is too.
And that vanilla Johnny Ace has a couple of great matches to his name!!

Yeah, as soon as Punk got in his face and started yelling, I was expecting an Ace Crusher mid sentence.

That would have been an incredibly awful decision.

That would have been an incredibly awful decision. Could have had Punk no-sell it. Though really I'd just as soon see Ace snap Punk's neck with how annoying and unlikable he is.

I don't know. It was a really nice suit. Wouldn't want to see him mess it up.

No, Ace was carried to his great matches. Like, actually carried.
He was never that great, even in Japan.

It would have been hilarious to see him try a horrible Ace Crusher, only for Punk to immediately get up and look at him like "WTF?"

Punk was acting like a spoiled brat tonight. He comes across as that kid in class who just have to find fault for everything a teacher does just to get attention.

The guy ran Vince out of his job - not entirely on purpose but definitely what he was hoping for, then he put the idea in everyone's minds that led to Triple H being cut and transparently hid behind suddenly wanting him to stay when he saw someone he liked less was taking over, and now he's trying to chase out Laurinaitis. Why is he supposed to be the good guy?

Why is he supposed to be the good guy? Laurenitis has clearly been portrayed as horrifically incompetent and only in charge because he has the favor of someone higher on the totem pole. Someone like Punk who rages against the machine should obviously go after him, being a living symbol what he is so against.

Really, the only things the guy's done negatively have been punish Morrison for being a dick to him for no reason, deny Ryder a rematch he didn't deserve given he'd already twice failed to take the US title, and respond to Punk making his life hell.

What's so incompetent about that? Punk came off looking like an major league asshole.

Why is he supposed to be the good guy? Because all those guys are duplicitous douchebags? Punk's whole shtick is that he's preaching to the part of the audience who see these particular corporate shills for what they really are -- while openly admitting to what he himself is. It's been mutated and interwoven with kayfabe now, sure, but the origin of his venom was built upon their alleged real-life reputations.

You're ignoring that Ryder had beaten Ziggler several times and only lost the title matches thanks to Vickie so there was plenty of justification for Ryder getting another shot. Also, the constant jerking of JR around and firing him OKC (yet again), interfering and costing Punk several matches, the screwing of Ryder and Foley tonight, allowing Nash to attack Triple H and, associating with the heels (Christian, Vickie's crew, Otunga) for months following his appointment as GM.

True, fair point. Though I think the Foley and Ryder things tonight were plenty justified - Foley lied on his behalf and technically turned things into a handicap match and Ryder consented to defending his title. As for the Vickie thing, hey, faces have to pack it up and move on after screwjobs all the time.

Its interesting because Punk really just seems to be a Genre Savvy face who wasn't going to wait for the somewhat obvious heel GM to "surprisingly" screw him over when the time is right. It fits with Punk's character. Either he's exposed Laurenitis for what he is, or his actions have created an enemy who's a conformist office stooge whom he never liked to begin with.
Whether John was going to f*** over Punk prior to tonight is almost meaningless. Punk doesn't like how the GM is running things, wants him gone, and refuses to hide that.

Admittedly, I'm someone who as a kid thought Austin needed to learn his place and McMahon was in the right, so maybe I just don't like rebels.

If there's one thing I've noticed recently it's that, ever since the Attitude Era ended, most main event faces tend to be dicks. CM Punk (or The Rock, for that matter) isn't really anything new.
