It's racist as all f***, but I'd definitely consider it racism born of stupidity rather than racism born of hatred

It is incredibly stupid, but I cannot say that it is racist.

Well, since Asian isn't a specific nationality, I don't understand how this is racist. Unless they were harassing exchange students or spouting hate-speech. Stereotypes can be fun, and I'm not seeing anything other than a ridiculous theme party here. Technically ethnic derivation, also known as common parlance as 'Race', is not something bound by nationality. See: Kurdish people, the. And we all know the only socially acceptable stereotypes are positive ones. Or, apparently, the Cloud Atlas.

Bingo! If everyone could learn to laugh together and quit getting so irritated over bulls*** life would be one big party. I notice mainly white people get up in arms over race issues when most of the minorities they defend really don't give a s*** about a joke. Considering the people protesting this are an Asian student organization that thinks this party is being derogatory towards their people and culture, this isn't the case at all. Like, imagine if white kids had a party in blackface and the invitation used a lot of ebonics with promises of fried chicken and watermelon. Would that be not racist even though they, say, didn't use the n-word? Oh, good point.

I guess I don't offend as easily as I should. It is insensitive but I guess it has to be pretty bad to be racist, actually worse than this, even if the party was about stereotyping blacks, whites, Latinos, or in this case, Asians. Blackface, yellowface, and whiteface are insensitive, but is there a line between politically correct offensiveness and just plain offensive?

I've been to a few of those "black-faced" parties and I had a blast. The black people I was kicking it with at the party thought the theme was hilarious. Yea man, those black people you talked to definitely spoke for the entire race. If those guys had no problem with it, then it is definitely not racist. Seriously guys, racism is more nuanced than burning crosses in lawns.

I was making a point that I personally don't find the party offensive. It is stupid yes, but racist? I am not sure. I guess I don't care about this party or any other racist or ethnocentric or stereotype party. It does speak much about a culture where we are supposed to be "sensitive" and "tolerant" yet we continue to misunderstand about "respect". But that is just me.

I didn't say that, but on the other side of the coin one person or group of people that are offended by parties like these don't speak for their entire race either. How is having a party negatively affecting the lives of the ones that are offended? This isn't racist it's just people having fun mimicking a perceived culture. This really is no different from people wearing green and getting shitty drunk for St. Patty's day or wearing a sombrero on Cinco De Mayo.

I want to say it is, but after hearing how WWE was racist for having Kofi play a Jamaican, I'm not entirely sure I understand what racism is anymore, to be honest.

Man this was just a theme party. People just look for s*** to offend them now days. Yeah, no kidding. All someone has to do is fart in the wrong direction nowadays and someone's offended. While I'm for PC in some cases, it's gotten out of control.
