I guess I'm too cynical at this point, but knowing Cena was gonna win ruined me getting into it. I guess I can only care about a match if there's actual doubt at the outcome. That's how I felt the whole time, Knowing the outcome makes all the near-falls a moot point.

Watched it again during my lunch break today. My god that was a great match. One of the things great about it is that they pulled out moves you either seldom see or you don't see those guys using them. I am glad it was a clean match with no ref shenanigans or Undertaker distractions. Maybe Punk and Cena were sending a message to Rock that THAT was what a main event looks like.

Can't wait for the eventual Punk/Cena rivalry compilation Blu-ray set. Many awesome matches. Get it done, WWE.

I don't know if anyone's brought it up yet, but I loved loved LOVED John Cena breaking out the Batista Bomb and the devastation he displayed after it failed to finish off CM Punk.
The psychology behind it was beautiful. Cena has a recent history of struggling to beat CM Punk, so he utilizes the finishing move of the man who he himself had a history of struggling to beat (prior to WrestleMania XXVI). And when it doesn't work, a move that has put himself down in the past, he is purely apoplectic. Phenomenal.

You know, these two have still never had a gimmick match together. Even though they've gone at it a lot lately, I'd absolutely love it if they could get in a Last Man Standing or Iron Man match later in the year.
On another note, I think this Punk stuff has probably, at least in part, saved Cena's legacy. Just as his character reached its most played-out he finally finds his greatest rival. In an ideal world, these two would be headlining Wrestlemania without any part-timers distracting us.

I'm just fantasy booking here, but I think next year's Mania would be great if Punk and Cena had a Hell in a Cell blow-off match for the WWE Championship. It would finally put Punk in the true main event last match at Mania and it would solidify their rivalry as being among the greatest in history. To me the biggest rivalries and match-ups need to happen at Mania, whether it be Andre-Hogan, Hogan-Savage, Bret-Shawn, Rock-Austin, Cena-Rock, etc.

Watched it again a few minutes ago, and you know what? THAT is what got me into wrestling all those years ago. It wasn't done by the "seven step plan", it wasn't paint by numbers, and that's not just talking about Punk and Cena. Cole was very good with it tonight, Lawler stepped it up, and yeah Punk and Cena went outside of their "normal" offense. Even the "normal" moves were done differently, less "sizzle" in the set-up, it felt different.
Yeah, the outcome I kinda figured on, but you know I had moments of doubt as to how it would go. Knew it wouldn't be a clean Punk win, but beyond that I wasn't sure. And the beauty of it, two guys trusted each other in there, worked their craft, and made me forget for a split second.
That's the sickness, that's the drug. Make me forget, for even half a second, and they all pulled it off.
I'd gladly see more of this, I'd tune in and even pay to do so. Small things jumped at me, in covers it stopped being "hook the leg and fall over their chest" and you started see them actually going after the shoulders. It's small, I know, but it jumped at me.

Not as great as MITB for me but having said that, the distance between the two is millimetres.

I hope Punk goes quickly back into the title scene straight after Mania. I would love a Punk vs Cena (c) vs Rock match at Extreme Rules, an event that Rock is apparently scheduled for. Though it will be hard to book Punk into the match after an inevitable loss to Taker, unless he brutally attacks both of them the next night in sheer frustration for losing against Taker.

Good match, but worst rana I've ever seen. It's seriously not a good idea to do that on a guy that's shorter than you.

See that is gratifying yet annoying at the same time. They have an incredibly talented roster (both main and developmental), huge potential everywhere, 3 hours on prime time and a wide and varied audience all willing to accept a median between in ring work and story. We should be getting those kind of matches every f***ing week, that make the show feel fresh and exciting. There is no excuse for there not to be with reliable in ring performers and characters with Punk, Cena, Jericho, Del Rio, Bryan etc, as well as rising stars in Cesaro, Sandow, Ziggler etc. Ok they should be proud, as well with Cena and Punk, they have realized (if only for one week) that all their audience likes wrestling (the ratings were up). They have now posted the full match (something they never do) on YT and hailed it themselves as an instant classic. With that list of talent above (and many more) this should be happening every week, WM season or not. It's like they know their a wrestling company for a small amount of time, then forget or don't want to embrace it just after they realize what they just said. With that roster, and some talented writers and decent booking decisions they occasionally do (yeah I said it!) there is no excuse for this current time period not to have the best in ring work ever, and have the hottest crowds. I will let themselves off on this, pat yourselves on the back WWE. But as I have already stated, there is absolutely no reason why that should be not happening every single week, on every Raw, SD, ME, SMS and PPV. I look forward to the HHH era because he has made some great signings and seems to have his head screwed on right (a bit more than Vince anyway), and truly is a student and appreciates the game (no pun intended). Hopefully he will completely drive this era into the ringwork era (while still having characters) when he fully takes over in a few years time. I just pray that no matter what Punk does at Mania this year, that they make the most out of him, whether he is facing Taker or not. He deserves to more than hold his own against Taker in the match, and hopefully it will be up there with the Edge, Batista, Orton, HBK matches. Erm..yeah sorry that was kind of rant like, didn't mean for it to be. But it was meant in a positive light and say they should be doing more of this. I am still debating whether it is a full ***** star or, it's definitely close if not.

I agree with all of this, great match with moves we rarely see from these two and some great moments that made you think Punk had a chance even though we knew before the match who was winning. I also suspected that they might be sending a message to the Rock, both that we are better than you and this is how it is done. Why else would they put on such an amazing match for Raw? We already know they have great match potential.
