If you ask me we DO get very good matches every week. I find it an odd complaint to say WWE need to step up in that department. Quite often on both Raw and especially Smackdown there is at least one excellent match.
It's just that John Cena and CM Punk match went above and beyond. They pulled out little tricks that you can only pull out once in a while. They did things that only really make sense in long feuds. They basically had a WrestleMania main event type match but on Raw.

I think people are just against the idea of seeing great matches like that on a weekly basis, as it would eventually diminish the "magic". Would we be saying how amazing and memorable that match was if we saw stuff like that every week prior to it? Probably not. I don't think Cena and Punk, or the top guys in general have to put on great matches every week. But it would be nice if the lower level guys were allowed to show their stuff and get over with the fans. I wouldn't give them 15-20 minutes but I'd love to see two lower guys going all in and putting on an energetic match in just three minutes. You really can't build much of a story within two or three minutes though, one of the reasons why this match worked was because it was given 30 minutes of time (making it feel even more special with a the in ring intros). Within the given time they were able to tell the story of them both trying to destroy eachother and get the pin with the old school moves that they were doing, desperatly trying to put the other one down. You can't really show that in one or two minutes. Give me Bryan vs Cena next week 30 minutes, with a good story like that and you will get just a hotter crowd, put Ziggler vs Punk vs Jericho as a main event with again a large amount of time the week after and see how that goes down. With three! hours there is no reason they can't invest the final 45 minutes to some good big fight feeling matches, involving up and coming midcarders mixed with main eventers or just main eventers some other weeks. They realize how good this match is (uploading it to YT), so why shouldn't they contribute more time to wrestling week after week and create new and original stories/psychology during said matches.
