Looks awesome, but I can't help but wish they had go e with a more traditional Thir for like the Enchantress or Executioner.

Well, in this case, probably not, as the enemies are the Dark Elves and their home realm has a name in Norse that literally means 'The Dark Elf World.' Exactly. I can't speak for the new Star Trek movie, but this movie's title pretty clearly comes from its own material, not another movie's popularity. You're missing the point. I'm suggesting that they purposely chose scripts that lent themselves to marketing these films as "dark". You might not agree with me, but it's not a far fetched idea. Those kinds of pop culture trends are common and these films are all aimed at the same basic demographic. I've also read a lot of Thor and I don't remember "dark elves", but that too is beside the point.

The hell it is. What's not logical about it?

The hell it is. What's not logical about it? "The Dark Elves" is a less appealing title than say, "The Dark World". That's what's illogical about it. The "Darkness" in "Star Trek" refers to the outer, darker reaches of space that Kirk and Crew go to in order to find John Harrison. What do you want it to be called, "Star Trek II?" Been done. Hell this actually a follow-up to the other films, so you virtually can't. You can't call it Star Trek: John Harrison, because the who the hell will see it? Its a reasonable and logical title.

I kinda agree with him. It's clear that many blockbusters are now marketing themselves as "dark", something that I think can be attributed to the success of The Dark Knight trilogy. I'm not saying they picked the title simply for the word "dark", but I do feel movies market themselves with a "serious" tone because of the influence of the Batman films. See: Iron Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man. These movies may not even be dark in tone, but their marketing were. So, I understand what he's saying about the title and marketing of this movie.

I seriously don't see it. Marvel has its own direction. Just because the Dark Knight was dark doesn't mean everyone is copying its grit and approach.

That's all I was ever saying. It's not even necessarily supposed to be a knock against any of the films, it's just one of those things. I'm interested in promotion and marketing and I take notice of things like that. Sometimes it's subtle, but clues about promotional trends in entertainment and any other business are there if you're looking for them.

Bumping this thread up in time for the London premiere tonight. Any FANs going tonight?
Thor: The Dark World comes out on the 30th October in international countries, and the 8th November in the US.

Will this be showing in imax? I looked through Fandango and the imax website but it made no mention or even let me order tickets? That's unusual for a movie coming out in 2 weeks.

It will not be in IMAX because Enders Game will have the screens reserved (it comes out a week before THOR in the US), and Catching Fire will take the IMAX screens after that.

I look at the audience opinion over the critics. Then again I liked "Carrie" and most people seem to hate it.

Just read a spoiler for the after credits scene and... {Spoiler} Sif and Volstagg take the main artefact of power from this film to an Asgardian friend, who turns out to be The Collector. They do this because they do not want two Infinity Stones on Asgard. It turns out that Loki's sceptre could control minds because that blue orb set in it was actually the Mind Gem. The thing the Dark Elves are after in this film turns out to be red, and so it's assumed it's the Power Gem.
Not sure I like the name swap to Infinity Stones, and hope that's just an Asgard thing or a bad translation from the Dutch site the spoiler came from.
Collector then states 1 down, 5 to go. His museum apparently has some other little Easter Eggs to look out for.
In the comics, Collector possessed the Orange gem, the Reality Gem when Thanos came looking, not the Red Power Gem (which was owned by Champion)

Guess I'll hit the local theater for this one.

So, this came out today in the UK. And it was awesome. Everything I wanted the first Thor movie to be.

Saw it at midnight. Loved it. The first Thor was my favourite movie of Phase 1 and I think this will be my favourite of Phase 2 (apart from maybe GOTG). Full of the silly, tongue-in-cheek epicness of the first, very action-packed, the time flew past. A whole load of fun, much better than Iron Man 3 in my opinion. Hope it leads to Thor 3, as the ending alluded to (can't see anything being wrapped up in Avengers 2).
Good stuff!

I can't wait to until Phase 3, which I'm assuming is all leading to Thanos being the big bad in Avengers 3. Can you elaborate on those easter eggs you mentioned?
