He was pretty much just a bland #2 for Malekith, which was disappointing given his character development in the comics. I also disliked how the rock monster from the trailers ended up being Ulik. It was cool when it seemed like it was just going to be a nod to the Kronan aliens, but hearing its companions chanting "Ulik" kinda killed that scene for me.

Saw it a few days ago, only just re found this thread. This properly describes where I want the Thor movie future to go: I am not sure if this has been discussed in this thread yet, but I think Zachary Levi did a great job taking over Fandral from Joshua Dallas. It was very consistent and wouldn't be surprised if he watched Joshua's performance a few times in the first one and talked to him. I am a fan of Zachary's since Chuck anyway, and become a fan of Dallas from the first one, and I feel that both men played it great and I would be happy with either playing the character on the next(?) film. I am a fan of Hopkins and Portman, but did anyone else feel like they were both phoning it on this one? Not that it effected the quality of the movie too much, just a feeling I got from the both of them, I could be wrong though. Hiddleston brilliant as always, I think I have loved him in every movie I have seen him in and Hemsworth always brings it. A stunning film, very colorful and light, yet also gritty and dark when it needed to be in foggy old England. The comedy was good and I was ~ENTERTAINED~, yet it never overpowered the story. Very well done and intense action scenes. Brilliant swerves and curve balls thrown that had a me guessing. The scenes with Thor and Loki alone make this movie worth it, I can't say a bad thing about Tom, an amazing actor who just brings a little bit of everything to that character that makes him so endearing. Can't wait for Captain America next year. Marvel is certainly creating a very sturdy Jenga tower here, yes one or two of bricks have fallen loose (*cough*Ironman 3) but for the most part it has a strong foundation, and is on the up and up only becoming taller. It's beatiful how much time they have taken in the Universe to build and everything and make it all mean something, culminating and crescendoing at the Avengers movies every few years. Is there any explanation as to why Jane and the team moved to London? Did I miss something?

Is there any explanation as to why Jane and the team moved to London? Did I miss something? It was mentioned in The Avengers that SHIELD relocated her somewhere safe. Maybe it was London?

I saw this earlier tonight. It's okay, I suppose. I definitely thought it was a lot better than the original. I'm not a huge fan of Thor in any form, so I went in with some bias.

Here is what I get from all of this Marvel stuff ...
It is the EPICNESS I starved for as a kid!!! Think about it. I can't remember a series of crossovers like this in the history of cinema. Not to this degree. Reading comic books as a kid, my dad and I used to talk about how impossible it would be to make a movie out of all the stuff we wanted to see. Well, it's pretty much happening. I choose to exclude Fantastic Four and those stupid Wolverine/Punisher/Daredevil attempts (they really don't even register with me much--I had to stop and think about them for just a second actually to remember they existed). But back to the point, this Marvel stuff is the biggest thing since Star Was originals. And since there is more of it, and it's pretty darn darn consistent, dare I say this is moving into "beyond Star Wars" range? I know the Internet Age is all skepticism and no praise, but that didn't exist in Star Wars' day. If I choose to see the movies for what they are (comic relief, graphics/visuals, costumes, enough minor character development to keep me interested on multiple fronts, music, the overall epic feel, variety, good vs. evil) then I really feel what we're getting is Star Wars: 21st century edition. I am a humongous Star Wars mark, and I'm not trying to ruffle feathers; I just like to add a little positive vibe to all of the criticism that inevitably gets paired with any film these days, and I want to say that what the producers and directors and writers are pulling off is nothing short of monumental! My inner child would be insane with glee over all of these films! And, I'm pretty darn overly pleased with the result as it is anyway. Amazing job by Marvel Studios.
EDIT: mistyped "short" as "sort"

From what I read Loki stole the show again

I really loved it. We got some fleshed out family dynamics, Thor and Jane were cute as a button, our earth friends were funny, and Loki was incredibly entertaining. I'm not going to say he stole the show, because everyone else was awesome too (I agree with the new!Fandral love, incidentally... Zach Levi was terrific), but the Thor-Loki interactions were consistently delightful.
I had committed to seeing it with two different groups, and was initially irritated about paying twice, but after seeing it, I definitely don't mind the fact that I have to see it again tomorrow. I think it's gonna have great rewatch value.

I've seen it twice and totally missed them calling the Kronan 'Ulik' - I know they were chanting something, but I didnt hear it as Ulik. That is kinda annoying if they were. Kurse and Malekith were both the victim of edits imo. The one down point I could find in the film that isnt me being picky (GEMS not stones!) was that the villains were very under developed.

See, this is the kind of stuff that gets silly. Kurse handled wrong, Ulik being weird, blah blah.
I get it, this isn't direct translations of comics. It's another universe, like how the Ultimate Universe is completely different than the usual Earth 616 stuff.
Anyway, nerd view aside, this movie blew Iron Man 3 our of the water, and will likely be the best of the Phase 2 movies. Absolutely flawless, I think. Loki stole the show again, yes, as was expected. All the connections to the first film during the final battle, and the other Avengers, yes yes. Well done.

I hope they release an Extended version on Blu Ray, I thought it moved a bit quick.
But knowing my luck the extended scenes would just be more Darcy

I hope I'm mistaken - I think Ulik would make a great underling for Loki in a future movie.

I avoided this thread until after seeing the movie. So first off, I missed the "Dark" conversation of earlier. Which reminded me of the Marvel/DC youtube video that playfully jabbed THE DARK KNIGHT RISES for coming out in the wake of films like RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS, FANTASTIC 4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, etc.
Anyway, onto THOR: THE DARK WORLD. Overall, a good movie. When Loki's on screen, A GREAT MOVIE! Holy shit, Hiddleston is good! Marvel has to keep finding ways to insert him into stuff now. I would also like a lot more of Sif. She's great (pretty as hell, too)! The Earth people had some good moments, but they still seem stuck in the shadow of the Asgardian lore. Though, they were integrated a bit better than in the first movie.
I did get the sense that Anthony Hopkins would rather not be there, but he wasn't so phoning-it-in that it hurt the movie at all. Kinda added to the run-down, weariness of a king who would like to see his son take the throne. And, as mentioned, the villains were underwritten (or maybe they fell victim to the cutting room floor). Sad, too, as I'm a Chris Eccleston fan.
I dug both the mid-credits scene and the after-credits scene. Very thrilled to see GOTG and THOR 3 whenever that comes. I went to a 2D showing, so I didn't get the five minute CAPTAIN AMERICA reel. But I did see the trailer, and OH MY GOD YES! I'd seen the trailer before, but seeing it on the big screen was so badass. I can't wait for CAP 2. After the trailer was over, the little kid in front of me audibly went "WHOA!" and I wanted to high-five that kid so bad, because CAP 2 just looks fantastic!

I really enjoyed it. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I got a kick out of Loki as Captain America, and they even snuck in Silvertri's Captain America march!

From what I read Loki stole the show again IMHO, he did, but not in a distracting way. It is the Thor and Loki show, but it's a great show, so no complaints from me. If Loki does not end up with a spin off movie though, I for one would be very surprised. It would make a lot of money just off the fan girls.

I kinda went blank after the first few minutes where Thor is exposing a lot of skin. Just kinda melted into my seat and salivated for a bit.
In all seriousness, the movie was excellent. Thor gorgeous, Loki magnificent. Lots of action, comedy and well.. Thor *swoon*

I hope they release an Extended version on Blu Ray, I thought it moved a bit quick. But knowing my luck the extended scenes would just be more Darcy Me too. I saw an interview where TH was asked what his favorite line was, and he said that it was the one where Thor says he wishes he could trust Loki, and Loki says, "If you did, you'd be the fool I always took you for. Trust my rage." Well. One of those lines was in the trailer. The other was in the film. They were never together, but apparently they were when he filmed it. And don't they sound much better together? I get the feeling there was way too much edited out, if even a teeny line like that got pared down.

But knowing my luck the extended scenes would just be more Darcy I liked Darcy, and thought she was probably the third best character in the movie besides the obvious top 2. Maybe it's just because Portman was so damn boring.
