I've seen both countlessly as well. Lost track but I'm sure my amount of viewings has to be close to a thousand.

Another criticism of GB2 I never got was how it's sometimes derided as being more kid-friendly than the first and usually because the Ghostbusters are seldom seen drinking or smoking in it (which they didn't exactly do often in the original). I always found the overall tone of GB2 darker and more Horror-like than the first. The scene with the heads on the stakes in the subway terrified me as a kid to the point I always left the room every time it came on and there's also the slime in the bathtub, Ghost Janosz snatching Oscar, many of Vigo's scenes, etc. I always felt it had a far more sinister tone compared with the original which had the comedy aspect to balance it all out.
Granted GB2 does much of the same with the Horror and Comedy aspect, but at times it sort of feels more like a Horror movie with comedy bits sprinkled throughout it.

I would agree GB2 is much darker than GB1. The ooze hand trying to grab Ray, the ghosts in electric chairs + the stuff mention above by Living SHadow.
Also Vigo is not exactly described in a kid friendly manner. Gozer has nothing on this lot:
On a mountain of skulls in a castle of pain, I sat on a throne of blood.
&
Dr. Egon Spengler: Vigo the Carpathian. Born 1505, died 1610. Dr. Peter Venkman: 105 years old? He hung in there, didn't he? Dr. Rayomd Stantz: He didn't die of old age, either. He was poisoned, stabbed, shot, hung, stretched, disemboweled, drawn and quartered. Dr. Peter Venkman: Ouch. Winston Zeddmore: Guess he wasn't too popular at the end, huh? Dr. Egon Spengler: No, not exactly a man of the people. Also known as Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, and Vigo the Unholy. Dr. Peter Venkman: Wasn't he also Vigo the Butch? Dr. Raymond Stantz: And dig this, there was a prophecy. Just before his head died, his last words were "Death is but a door, time is but a window: I'll be back."
Heck I now want to see a genuine horror film about Vigo the Carpathian.

The actor who played Vigo sadly passed away. A comic book prequel about Vigo would be awesome to see and the end of it could show how he connects with the river of slime and how he got into the painting.

I think an animated prequel could be done and maybe even included on the GB2 Blu-ray as a special feature.

Heh, it's not out on BD yet though I wish it was. I was just saying maybe an animated prequel about Vigo's origin could be done as a special feature when/if GB2 ever hits the format.

Never liked it, didn't have the drop-off of Caddyshack 2 but still a considerable drop-off.

I remember watching this for the first time when my dad taped the movie off tv during a free HBO weekend the cable company used to do.

I remember we had at least two VHS copies, one got worn out so much from how much I watched it.

Forgot that the video game actually detailed the origin of the mood slime in a way that was connected to Shandor from the first movie (or mentioned in GB1, rather). It was pretty clever.

When I saw it in theaters I was 8 and thought it was great. Then I saw it a few a years ago and thought to myself wait this isn't any good. So now I don't know what to think about it. Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I saw it the second time I need to re watch it.

I watched this movie three times in a row one day because one of our local stations decided to run it three times in a row on a random Saturday

That is pretty random. I remember I had days as a kid I literally spent the entire day just rewinding both movies and watching them non-stop on a loop.

Found these cool behind-the-scenes vignettes on YouTube. They're especially cool to have given the DVD is totally barebones.
Hopefully this'll all be on a good Blu-ray edition of it, someday. Still disappointed nothing has been announced so far for both movies' anniversaries this year.

Damn, I had that toy as a kid (the Ecto-Charger). So many fun memories of that toy and the toy Proton Pack and Ghost Trap. Sadly they took a lot of damage from when I played with them and aren't in the best of shape these days I don't know if the Slime Blower was an influence on this toy but the Ecto Blaster looks a fair bit like the Slime Blower in the movie.

The anniversaries of both movies are this month, anyone plan to watch them? I'll be watching both on the 8th for sure, probably not the 16th for GB2's anniversary given that I'm working that day.
