Would be neat to see. I still have the comic adaptation of the film that has those scenes intact and the story seemed to flow better with them.

As a huge Ghosthead ( Ghostbusters Fan )I can answer some of the questions asked a few pages back.
Cut Scenes: There are a few TV edits which have cut scenes included. Two that come to mind are:
1. Louis suiting up and trying to capture Slimer in the firehouse. ( Shown on the last page ) 2. Ray getting possessed ( to a lesser extent ) earlier on in the film when they are analyzing Vigo's painting which ultimately leads to him to trying to drive the Ectomobile into a tree only to be stopped by Winston punching him in the face at the last second to snap him out of it.
On why people feel GBII is more kiddie in comparison to GB1:
Smoking and drinking aside the real meat of the claim/sometimes complaint/observation comes from the changes in characters ( physically and personality ) trying to match what was portrayed in The Real Ghostbusters.
- Slimer now being more friendly even pet like ( hanging around the firehouse in the deleted scene, giving Louis a ride to the museum, slimer flying out at the screen at the end of the movie ) instead of just a regular ghost/John Belushi tribute.
- Janine abandoning her infatuation with Egon to go after Louis. ( Although Louis appeared in the cartoon after the movie released )
- Janine's personality softening from a stereotypical abrasive short-fused New Yorker into a calmer more affectionate individual
- Janine's appearance changing to match that of her personality, complete with brighter colors and a more cartoonish hairstyle.
The changes in Janine are in correlation to the changes in the character in RGB during Season 3 where they did the same thing leading to a switch in voice actresses as well.
So essentially a person or a group of people wanted to make Ghostbusters II more like a live-action version of the Real Ghostbusters.
Yes, a live action version of a cartoon that was based on a live action movie.
[ Random Trivia ]
Ernie Hudson auditioned for the role of Winston Zeddmore in The Real Ghostbusters. He lost the role to Arsenio Hall.

There's more to being harder-edged than just having the characters drink or smoke, though. When people deride GB2 as being more kiddy than the first they'll usually mention that or mention the presence of the baby in it. Those seem like silly criticisms to me, so it's automatically more kid-friendly because a baby is in it and the main characters seldom drink or smoke?
GB2 definitely did have an influence from the cartoon series, though. There were elements of the cartoon in the second film, which never bothered me as I always loved the cartoon and felt GB2 did a good job of following on from the first movie and also incorporating elements from the cartoon.
The Real Ghostbusters was sometimes quite scary for a cartoon as well, namely the Boogeyman and Sam Hain.

I hope I didn't come off like I didn't like the cartoon or thought GBII taking some cues from it was a bad thing. I absolutely love the cartoon and own the Time Life complete set release.
While the changes didn't bother me, I also felt that they weren't really necessary.
The only reason to do it is so that it resembles the cartoon enough that kids who may have not seen the the first movie but have seen the cartoon go "Oh Wow! It looks like the cartoon!" if only marginally.
It's remarkable how similar the sequel is in plot structure to the first one.
GB1:
Out of Work Slow attempt at getting back into work Looming threat Back in Business Confront Threat Large Entity walking through New York Victory
GBII:
Out of Work Slow attempt at getting back into work Looming threat Back in Business Confront Threat Large Entity walking through New York Victory
It's the same formula.

Oh you didn't, I too have always noticed the similarities GB2 has with RGB and it stood out to me even as a kid. The plot structure similarities are definitely similar and even identical, but I think the movie did a clever job of varying it up and having it not feel like a complete retread.
The one thing I'd change if I'd been in charge of it, besides maybe having the deleted scenes kept in depending on how good they were, is have the Vigo confrontation be much more dynamic. It's hard not to feel more than a little let down when he's defeated as quickly as he is without a real battle. Something like the mood slime bursting inside the museum and maybe even the Ghostbusters being sucked into the painting having to battle him in his dimension he was imprisoned in could've been something great.
Perhaps something like that may have even be planned but maybe because they didn't have the right special effects techniques then they scrapped it? Certainly could be.

Apparently the studio is serious about moving ahead with GB3. IMO it's best to let it die with dignity, they waited too long and without Harold it wouldn't be the same. Disappointing as it was we never got a GB3 maybe it's for the best if the movie might've turned out bad. I think it's always better to have one good sequel than a bunch of bad ones.

I agreed with you up until about ten minutes ago when I read that the studio apparently wants a female-centered team of Ghostbusters. This means I could finally get what I always wanted - a big budget, live-action Kylie Griffin movie!!! Oh sure, laugh at me, but when Marvel first announced its intention on a Guardians of the Galaxy movie I was the only person on these boards behind it.

If I'm not mistaken at one point GB3 was to be an Extreme Ghostbusters adaptation, which I don't think I would've minded back then.

So have I. I've always found both infinitely rewatchable and quotable, and I always think of GB2 when I think of the entire Ghostbusters legacy.

Hearing the news of a reboot makes me all the more adamant the films should be left alone. I feel it's always better to have one good sequel than a bunch of bad ones and of course a bad remake/reboot. Best to leave it at both of the films, IMO.

I'm as big of a Ghostbusters fan as anyone you'll meet, and I prefer the second one to the first.

Heads up today the digibook Blu-ray release of both movies is out, I'm heading right now to pick it up. It's been a good while since I last watched either and I'm super-amped to see both in HD, and in 4K to boot.

Just do what I do Completely ignore the existence of reboots, remakes and unnecessary sequels.

I used the coupon. Got my copy at Target, it's a little cheaper there at $16.99 plus tax and the coupon knocked off $5. Altogether for me it came down to $13.37

I saw it once in theaters when I was 8. I thought it was amazing and have not rewatched it because so many people say it is bad and I have a felling that I will agree with them if I see it again. I want to keep the memory of loving this film.
