Panama scores. Now 1-1. Meanwhile Argentina takes a 2-1 lead over Paraguay. Win for Argentina means a World Cup spot for them.
Edit @ 10:22pm: Honduras makes it 2-1!
Edit @ 10:52pm: Panama has tied it! 2-2!

4 straight trips for Mexico into Columbus during the Hex, 4 straight Dos y Cero losses.
I also stand by my belief that Mexico bought into their own hype over the last few years. Won the Gold Cup to qualify for the Confed Cup, won Gold Medal at the Olympics, won the U-17 WC a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken they also absolutely dominated the last round of qualifying. There's just too much talent on that team to be fighting for 4th place.

Honduras/Panama ends 2-2, which means USA becomes team #8 in the World Cup!
Looking at the numbers again, this also means that Costa Rica becomes team #9 in the World Cup.

If things stay as they are now I believe Mexico is out completely and Panama plays New Zealand.

Good game tonight, unfortunately our second-half hangover strikes again. Still, a draw at The Liberty isn't bad and we go back to the top. It was The Jonjo Shelvey show.

Great game to watch as a neutral between Swansea and Liverpool tonight. Just an all round fun game, Shelvey probably doesn't know what to make of his performance poor guy. He was potentially MOTM, for both teams!
Went down to Villa Park for our game on Saturday and just want to say that the Villa fans (for the most part, you always get a few idiots) were great. On the walk to the ground there was a lot of friendly banter and nothing said in malice, there was a lot on the train I got after the match and they were nothing but courteous. Really refreshing, and of course us playing the best we've played in eons made the day all the more sweeter. I hope we can perform more like that from now on! Great stuff. Good atmosphere and great support from the Newcastle fans too, hardly a minute went by without us singing our hearts out, it was a lot of fun to be a part of.

Finally a good televised match, it's been a while.

Knew Shelvey would score, didn't think he'd play a role in all 4 goals though. Probably the best televised game of the season so far.

Rodgers should have pushed for more goals at 2-1. Pulling back and trying to hang on is a mid-table mindset. Got to be bolder if Liverpool are to be CL place contenders.

It's only 5 matches into the season and the points dropped by Manchester United have been against good teams, but if they start falling behind, I wonder how patient the fans would be with Moyes.

Seeing a lot of rumours that Sunderland have sacked DiCanio, haven't seen anything official yet though.
Edit : It's now on Sunderland's official website.

Being a Sunderland fan is just this dull, crushing inevitability.
1. Manager hired. 2. "This is a club with potential." 3. "This is an area with the greatest, most passionate fans." 4. Big result. 5. 8 new signings in next window. 6. Sacked after no other result.
Di Matteo is current favourite to succeed.

I'm less surprised that he was fired than I was when he was hired. Management by hand grenade was a phrase I read used to describe his management style and it seemed a very apt one

Names being linked are Di Matteo, Gianfranco Zola, Tony Pulis, Alex McLeish and Neil Lennon.
The only one out of those I'd really be happy with is Neil Lennon. The others I don't rate at all. I know Di Matteo won the CL and all, but before that he was at West Brom and was nothing exciting. Another name I saw, but I'm doubtful of, is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That's a name I'd like to see.

If I was a Sunderland supporter, I think I'd rather see Di Matteo than any of those, including Lennon and Solskjaer.

I don't think Sunderland will get any of them, why would someone jump right into the mess that Di Canio made for little or no reward. I would imagine someone on the merry go round of managers would get it like Jewell or Dowie.
