So today is the final set of world cup qualifying games until October. Here're the scenarios to watch for:
Jordan/Uzbekistan plays their 2nd leg of their match. Winner gets to have a playoff with whatever team finishes 5th in CONMEBOL. Their 1st game ended with a 1-1 draw.
Africa has finished group play and will have their playoff games in October and November. Teams playing will be Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Senegal and Ethiopia.
In CONCACAF, 2 teams can earn a spot tonight: Costa Rica and the United States. Costa Rica needs to win against Jamaica and the US to defeat Mexico. The US needs a win against Mexico and for Honduras to either defeat or draw Panama.
In CONMEBOL, 3 teams are assured at least the playoff spot: Argentina, Colombia and Chile. Argentina and Colombia can earn a spot with wins over Paraguay and Uruguay respectively. Chile does not play today. Ecuador can guarantee at least a playoff spot with a win over Bolivia.
In UEFA, 3 teams are assured of at least 2nd place in their group: Belgium, Croatia and Spain.
Group A: Neither Belgium or Croatia plays today.
Group B: Italy can earn a spot with a win over Czech Republic.
Group C: Germany can earn a spot with a win Faroe Islands and if Sweden fails to win against Kazakhstan.
Group D: The Netherlands can earn a spot with a win over Andorra and if Romania fails to win against Turkey.
Group E: Switzerland can earn a spot with a win over Norway and if Iceland/Albania ends in a draw.
Group F: Though no one will earn a spot today in the group, Russia can head the group with a win over Israel.
Group G: A Greece win over Latvia and a Bosnia-Herzegovina win over Slovakia will guarantee that both of them can finish no worse than 2nd.
Group H: Though no one will earn a spot today in the group, the winner of England/Ukraine will get the 1st place spot. Should the game end in a draw, England will head the group.
Group I: A France victory over Belarus guarantees at least 2nd in the group.
