Why are people assuming that anybody who has an issue with this advert must be overweight or even obese? That's where I think the line is drawn to me. Encouraging people to be healthy is fine by me, even if you're using negative reinforcement (although you should have some real connection to a person before going that route). Setting out to make people scared, nervous, or depressed so you can sell them something expensive and overall unnecessary is sleazy to me, whether it's someone selling fitness DVD's or a doctor selling expensive body scans. And reading that, maybe it's just advertisers that I hate. Yeah I think my issue is more with the wider advertising industry than this one example. Somebody like Sparkybob clearly has a different opinion on what's acceptable and that's fine. It does seem a bit unfair that her relatively small business (I assume) has got the backlash when there must be far worse and bigger targets, although I'm guessing the media attention will probably end up helping her. That said I don't agree that this was something designed for just for a few facebook friends, her page is viewable to the public and judging by the big banner at the top it's supposed to compliment her brand.

I'm good with it. She worked hard in a difficult situation and should be proud of herself. She did not share it viral, but it went viral nonetheless. Her follow up message is somewhat douchey but she is just wants to motivate people by her example. I admire her for it. Some overweight people have legitimate reasons that preclude them from being fit. Far more overweight folks have excuses and no motivation.
