Honestly, I don't mind Del Rio. I do however kind of mind the AGGRESSION thing. I wonder if it's a backstage joke now or something, because I refuse to believe someone can be so creatively bankrupt to write something so repetitive down to using the same words they used for the exact same event on purpose. They cannot possibly think that's a good idea. I love Del Rio and think he's one of the best talents the WWE has ever had. He was an awesome face, having a fantastic feud and putting on great matches with Big Show, and I think he's an even better heel considering a bunch of people hate him but they say it's "go-away heat", which I don't even think is real, by the way, because you're SUPPOSED to dislike the f***ing heel. There's a difference between disliking a heel and being bored by him. One is an emotional reaction, the other is(at the most) an emotional reaction at the writers for boring you to death so much. "You don't like a heel, therefore he's a good heel" is just a bad argument. By that logic I could have a literal pineapple in the ring taped to a sign insulting a sports team and if I disliked the pineapple just standing there not saying or doing anything interesting the pineapple would be the greatest heel of all time. It's ridiculous circular logic. "He's a good heel because you dislike him" is such a circular argument that if you are to really believe that, then literally nothing can be a bad heel. Even the Pineapple Mascarada.

In all honesty, the guy's got talent and charisma, but he doesn't have "main event level" talent and charisma. As was mentioned before, he seems to struggle with adding little mannerisms and touches to his performance that can be difference makers in order to hook in audiences.
And what made the Miracle On 34th Street Fight so amazing was because for at least one night, Del Rio seemed to get it. The "seriously?" expression he shoots at Ricardo as he pulls out the bear was a good example of those little touches that can be critical for wrestlers/performers trying to get over. But no, week in and week out he aggressives all over Kofi/Ryder/Ziggler in vain attempts to look like a threat, and it just doesn't take.

This thread is hilarious.
The IWC is like the Sith. (only perhaps more evil) Without a strong central opponent to focus on, it'll always turn on itself in the end.
I must admit that I was unaware ADR was even capable of eliciting such an emotional response.
I thought the consensus was that he was kinda meh and that people generally like the dude, but find his character/booking boring and aimless. Apperently viewpoints differ wildly from there.

There is no such thing as an IWC And if there is, everyone that posts here(or on any internet public forum for that matter) is apart of it.

I stand by the idea that if he had spent a decade in Chikara and pre-Sinclair ROH that the comments would be more along the line of "the guy is amazing in the ring" and "he puts on great matches" and therefore "they aren't using him right" and "he'd be massively over if not for his yo-yo booking" etc., etc. Because he IS good it the ring, which is what I think fans of indy guys who get to WWE express is what is important to them -- and any failure, from the posts I see, is blamed on the gimmick or the booking for not making use of whoever's great talent. Even in this instance I think people would be smart enough to admit he was boring. Eventually the same thing happened to Cesaro, most acknowledge he was great in ring but after a few weeks they recognised and accepted that he was boring and wasn't getting over. The same goes for a few "indy darling" talents, very few will argue that Daniel Bryan isn't the greatest on a mic, that Punk isn't the tightest in-ring performer, that Rollins sounds like a pre-pubescent Owen Hart. The "They aren't using him right" would still apply to Del Rio though, I believe everyone can be entertaining given the right writing or storyline. Could Del Rio be entertaining? Sure, give him that Telenova gimmick people keep suggesting, maybe finally stick to that Del Rio/Rosa angle they keep teasing and have her come out with tassels on her bra and carry giant numbers that Del Rio uses to teach the crowd to speak in Spanish. Failing that, bring back the lWo and ally with Los Matadores.

Fantastic post, if you can't add those little touches you're not believable as a character, even less so when you consider the arguments people have already made about the portrayal of his gimmick (mostly the good parts being stripped away). I think also leads to another issue, we know he's theoretically capable of being the star WWE wants him to be as we've seen glimpses of it in things like that Christmas street fight, therefore it's even more frustrating to see him go through the motions of the same old aggressive performance, if a more limited wrestler stinks up the place it's far easier to forgive their shortcomings.

I loved the character when he first came in. The scarf, the cars, Ricardo, the wink and the "You already knew that" really worked for me. Then he started banging on about "destiny" every week and it started to go down hill. Great in the ring in my opinion, but turning him face was a grave error in judgement and I also think they badly wasted when Ricardo finally turned on him. That should have been far more epic.
But that said, I still have a soft spot for Del Rio.
