Monday Night Raw, October 21st, 1996
One night after winning the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, Hunter Hearst Helmsley learned who would be defending his Championship against at Survivor Series. Gorilla Monsoon announced that because of his win in the Last Man Standing Match, Jake “The Snake” Roberts has been granted a title match. Later in the night, Roberts battled Helmsley’s tag team partner, The Ringmaster, a match that ended in a disqualification thanks to Helmsley’s interference. Bret Hart made the save for Roberts, looking to get his hands on The Ringmaster ahead of the next big event. The Rulers of the Ring managed to escape, but there will be no escape at Survivor Series…
Ron Simmons cost Sycho Sid the WWF Championship at In Your House. On Raw, he explained his actions, saying that he was never given an opportunity for a rematch, due to Razor Ramon vacating the title. Then, instead of being automatically inserted into the title match, he had to compete in a tournament, where Sid “unfairly” beat him to earn an “unwarranted” title shot. Simmons promised that Sid will never be Champion as long as he’s around. Later that night, Sid battled Goldust, disposing of the Bizarre One with a Powerbomb. But following the match, Simmons attacked Sid, laying him out with a Dominator.
At In Your House, Vader defeated The Undertaker, thanks to some interference by James E. Cornette. On Raw, Undertaker battled Vader’s Camp Cornette stablemate, Owen Hart. Before the match, Hart and The British Bulldog had a confrontation with Doug Furnas and Phillip LaFon, who made it clear that they want a title shot. As for the match itself, Bulldog and Cornette both interfered on Hart’s behalf, but Undertaker was able to fight them both off. Finally, The Deadman hit a Tombstone, but Vader broke up the pin, as Camp Cornette put a beating on The Undertaker.
Jerry Lawler hosted Rocky Maivia on The King’s Court, but it was all a setup, as Jeff Jarrett attacked Maivia, aided by Lawler, until Mark Henry made the save.

On Monday Night Raw, Camp Cornette proved that they are still a formidable force in the WWF. The Undertaker was scheduled to battle The British Bulldog, but like last week, Vader’s interference marred the match. After the match, Camp Cornette put a beating on The Undertaker, ending Monday Night Raw with The Deadman being stretchered out of the arena, looking worse for wear…
With Survivor Series on the horizon, we saw several matches involving members of the various teams. Former Intercontinental Champion Jesse James returned to action, taking on Skip of the Bodydonnas. James was able to thwart the interference attempt of Sunny, then hit the Pumphandle Slam to get the win. After the match, Chyna attacked Sunny, leading to a catfight, which was broken up by The Bodydonnas and The Smoking Gunns.
In another Survivor Series preview, Mark Henry took on Jeff Jarrett. Henry dominated the match with his superior strength, but Jerry Lawler’s interference resulted in a disqualification. Lawler and Jarrett beat down Henry until Rocky Maivia made the save.
Sycho Sid, wanting to get his hands on Ron Simmons, called out the former WWF Champion. The two men brawled until they were separated by officials. As well, the contract was signed between Bret Hart and The Ringmaster for their Survivor Series match. After the signatures were on the contract, The Ringmaster took a cheap shot at Hart, surprising him with his Stunner move, knocking him into the table and into WWF President Gorilla Monsoon. Monsoon has promised repercussions for The Ringmaster’s actions, while Hart has promised to get even next Monday night on Raw…
In other action, Salvatore Sincere made his first defense of the Intercontinental Championship, defeating Savio Vega. And Mankind returned for the first time since his brutal Last Man Standing Match, defeating Duke Droese in a quick encounter.

Monday Night Raw, November 4th, 1996
The landscape of the upcoming Survivor Series event has changed dramatically coming out of tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw. The evening kicked off with Camp Cornette gloating over the fact that they ran The Undertaker out of the WWF last week. However, the celebration ended abruptly when Gorilla Monsoon arrived on the scene. He announced that in the wake of last week’s events, he is reshuffling some of the matches at next week’s big pay-per-view. Owen Hart and The British Bulldog will now be teaming with The Bodydonnas to take on The Godwinns and The Smoking Gunns. As for Vader, he will now join Ron Simmons, Salvatore Sincere, and a fourth partner to take on Sycho Sid, Jesse James, Yokozuna, and a fourth partner. It will be up to the team captains to decide who the fourth partners will be. In the main event, Vader took on Sycho Sid. It was an even match between the two monsters, with Vader coming out on top thanks to the interference of Mankind, who was then revealed to be the fourth member of Ron Simmons’ Survivor Series team…
In another change to the Survivor Series card, The Hardy Boys are out of the Free-For-All match, following the beating inflicted on them by The Headbangers last weekend on Superstars. Instead, Doug Furnas and Phillip LaFon will now be joined by the debuting Generation X-Treme. Edge and Christian made an immediate impact in their debut, knocking off The Goon and Brooklyn Brawler in quick fashion.
The 1-2-3 Kid, looking for screen time on Raw, issued an open challenge, which was answered by Bret Hart. The two had a fantastic match, much like they did several years ago, with Bret coming out on top yet again. After the match, Bret was jumped by his upcoming Survivor Series opponent, The Ringmaster.
In other Survivor Series build-up, Billy Gunn faced Owen Hart, who lost by disqualification thanks to the interference of Skip. Henry Godwinn would make the save for his partner. And Rocky Maivia picked up a win over Brian Christopher in similar fashion, thanks to the interference of Jeff Jarrett. Rick Titan would make the save for Rocky, gaining a measure of vengeance after Christopher cheated to defeat Titan on Superstars last weekend.

With six days to go until Survivor Series, Sycho Sid’s team got their fourth man in a most unexpected fashion. Goldust saved Sid from a post-match attack by Ron Simmons, Vader, and Mankind, becoming the final member of the team for this Sunday’s event. Earlier in the night, Goldust had confronted Simmons over being left off his team, but was jumped by Vader and Mankind and beaten down by the three men. However, it wasn’t all smiles for Sid and his team, as they lost both of their confrontations with Team Simmons, including Jesse James failing to recapture the Intercontinental Championship from Salvatore Sincere.
In another Survivor Series preview, Bret Hart and Jake “The Snake” Roberts picked up a win over the Rulers of the Ring, when Roberts pinned the WWF Champion after a DDT. Can Jake and Bret capitalize on this momentum this Sunday?
Rocky Maivia defeated his arch-enemy, Jeff Jarrett, with the other participants in their Survivor Series match at ringside. Jerry Lawler and company tried to interfere multiple times, but were stopped by Maivia’s teammates. Maivia was then able to put Jarrett away with a shoulder tackle from the middle rope.
In previews of both of the other Survivor Series matches, The Bodydonnas picked up a win over The Godwinns, while Doug Furnas beat Barry Windham in singles action.

Survivor Series, November 17th, 1996
Action kicked off with the Free-For-All, as Doug Furnas and Phillip LaFon teamed with Generation X-Treme to face The Headbangers and The Gunslingers. In this match, when a Superstar was pinned, he and his tag team partner would both be eliminated from the match. The first elimination occurred when Edge pinned Thrasher of The Headbangers, but he and Christian were then counted out as they brawled at ringside with Thrasher and Mosh. In the ring, Furnas pinned Barry Windham with a German Suplex, securing the win for Furnas and LaFon.
The PPV itself kicked off with the first of the traditional Survivor Series Elimination matches. Rocky Maivia’s team of Mark Henry, Rick Titan, and Savio Vega battled the team of Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Lawler, Brian Christopher, and Isaac Yankem DDS. The first elimination occurred when Lawler pinned Vega following a Piledriver, after a cheap shot from the apron by Christopher. Henry would go on to even the sides after a deadlift into a slam on Yankem. Jarrett would later force Titan to submit to the Figure Four, making it three-on-two. From there, Maivia and Henry made the comeback, with Maivia first pinning Christopher with a uranage slam. Henry then forced Lawler to submit to a bear hug, then Maivia rolled up Jarrett to win the match for his team.
Another elimination match followed, as WWF Tag Team Champions Owen Hart and The British Bulldog teamed with The Bodydonnas against The Smoking Gunns and The Godwinns. Bulldog’s team struck first, with Bulldog pinning Phineas Godwinn after a Powerslam. Henry Godwinn would gain a measure of revenge by pinning Zip after a Slop Drop. Owen eliminated The Godwinns completely by forcing Henry to submit to the Sharpshooter, but The Gunns evened it up after hitting a Sidewinder on Skip. But Bulldog would capitalize on miscommunication between the brothers to pin Bart after a Powerslam. Owen then rolled up Billy as he argued with Bart to eliminate him and win the match for himself and The Bulldog.
The WWF Championship match went on next, as Hunter Hearst Helmsley defended against Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Roberts takes the fight to Helmsley, taking full advantage of what could be his only shot at the gold, but in the end, a Pedigree puts Roberts away for a successful title defense by the Champion.
Next up, Sycho Sid led Yokozuna, Goldust, and Jesse James into battle against Ron Simmons, Vader, Mankind, and Salvatore Sincere. James scored the first elimination for his team, pinning Sincere after a Pumphandle Slam. Soon after, Yokozuna was counted out after crashing into the ring post during a brawl and was unable to answer the ten count. Mankind eliminated James with the Mandible Claw, putting his team up 3-2. Goldust evened it up by pinning Mankind after a Curtain Call, but Mankind attacked Goldust afterwards. In the ensuing scuffle, Goldust got a hold of a chair and used it on Mankind, but then also struck Vader, getting himself disqualified. Sid was able to capitalize on the chairshot, however, and pinned Vader following a Chokeslam. Which left just Sid and Simmons. Simmons connected with a Spinebuster for a two-count, but Sid came back to get the win after a Powerbomb, becoming the sole survivor.
Finally, it was time for Bret Hart vs. The Ringmaster in the main event of the evening. The Ringmaster controlled much of the match, appearing to frustrate Bret at points. In the end, however, The Hitman was able to get the pin after using the ropes to counter a sleeper into a pinning combination. Afterwards, Bret offered a handshake to The Ringmaster, who rebuffed it before spitting in Hart’s face. Bret celebrated his win, but it was clear that for The Ringmaster, this is far from settled…
