From 2006 to 2010, CM Punk was my favorite wrestler. There was an air of coolness about him that I really dug. I wasn't really into the indies or anything, I just thought he was really cool. We watched him rise from newbie, to ECW Champion, IC, Tag Champ, to the WHC and finally getting his run as the WWE Champion, one of the last guys to naturally progress from the bottom to the top, in my opinion.
In 2010, while Punk was sort of just stagnant in the upper-midcard, Daniel Bryan came around. He got me into the indies, watching developmental, and really enjoying matches as much as I enjoy the storylines. Bryan became my favorite before he even left NXT. In 2011, Punk's leaving angle really wrapped him in, and I was cool with Punk being my favorite at the top of the card, and Bryan being my favorite midcarder.
Sometime around Punk's forced heel turn and Bryan's rise to toward the top, I sort of stopped caring what CM Punk was up to. By the time he'd turned face again, I really, really didn't care. And his leaving, I'm just like, meh Punk. Right now, Punk could come back and I dunno, I really wouldn't care that much. I'm happy for the guy if he's happy not being around, but I dunno, I feel like if he does come back, and he does get pushed to the very top like they've done with Rock and Batista, he'd be that dynasty he raged against during his major feud with Cena leading up to MITB.
So, I dunno, I wasn't really looking to discuss anything, just wanted to put my thoughts down around people who understand being wrestling fans.

You pretty much wrote my own thoughts exactly. Punk was a major bore last year - I even preferred Randy Orton, because at least Orton's painful Authority storyline was more interesting than the unconnected, self-indulgent mess of the Punk/Heyman feud.

Typical CM Punk fans, always trying to put themselves over.

CM Punk has slept with more women than I have so that's why I hate him

CM Punk has slept with more women than I have so that's why I hate him As someone who has slept with enough people to potentially give Punk a run for his money, I can assure you that seeing him as an equal in this manner does not make him more likable.

It's weird how so surreal watching his recent work is for me. I logged onto the WWE Network and seeing Punk on the thumbnail for the 2014 Royal Rumble just looked...... wrong. Like someone had photoshopped it in. With the way he left and the lack of storyline acknowledgement of it it almost feels as if Punk was just a figment of my imagination.

The dude was intensely ignorable for the entire latter half of last year, leading up to his walkout...honestly, I think he walked out because the Mania main event is literally the only thing left on his bucket list. He got his Heyman feud, he was WWE champion, he did a variant on his signature angle on the biggest stage in wrestling, he lost a Hair vs. Mask match to Rey Mysterio. As far as I can tell, that list includes everything he has ever said he wanted out of wrestling, minus that Mania main event.

I'm over his attitude.
He's actually my favorite wrestler, so I hate to say bad things about him but it's hard to respect someone who cries and runs away when they don't get their way.
WWE absolutely should have had him main event Mania by now. Last year's main event should have been a threeway with Punk. it would have been a natural progression of Punk feuding with Rock, Rock feuding with Cena, and Cena feuding with Punk. But the fact that WWE has their heads up their asses half the time in regards to who to push should be no surprise to someone who has worked there for years. I totally understand him getting fed up and quitting, I just hate that he didn't care enough about his fans to stick around for some type of farewell angle.
I do hope he returns one day, but if not I won't let it get me down with guys like Bryan and The Shield tearing it up now.

I've been the type who could take him or leave him. I don't really care that he's gone. He's just not appealing to me at all. I don't see what what was so great about him in any aspect of wrestling. Entertainment wise on a scale of. 1 to 10...I'd give maybe a 2 or 3. His matches?...I can't name 5 that stick out to me as being particularly memorable during his reign on the top.
He just seems like a guy who he and his fans believes he deserves everything. Me personally...I just don't get it. I can name 10 wrestlers who have entertained me more than Punk. That and he just comes off as a whiny bitch. Even in his stuff out of WWE...he's the world's oldest crybaby. If he did come back...I'd probably shrug my shoulders and would continue not to care too much.

Like a lot of WWE superstars, I was definitely over the way his stories were written for most of 2013. That Heyman stuff was cool for a minute, but then they did it all ass backwards. Lesnar first, then Ryback? I mean....come on.
But yeah, I really think the landscape of WWE wasn't the best place for him this past year or so, and he was smart/lucky enough to be able to walk way when he was sick of it.
I'm sure some dudes wish they could do the same, but aren't really in the financial position to.

I've been over him since SummerSlam last year.
His awful feud with Heyman literally killed any interest I had in him.

It's pro-wrestling: if you stop writing well for the guy, fans will get bored no matter what. If they put the quality of writing down so much that a wrestler is just another guy filling empty headed story arcs until they can face off against another big star then...well, who cares?
CM Punk can be great in ring, and great on the mic, but when your last feuds were a few confused weeks with the Shield where you played second fiddle to many references to Reigns going solo in future (which is fine, but eh, anyone could have been that guy) and before that facing CURTIS AXEL for the rights to Paul Heyman's heart/soul?
There's only so much you can do with crap material to keep people interested. If the material is largely generic/pointless/a stop gap when other roster members have more interesting story arcs (Shield) or more fan backing due to their popularity (Bryan) then that leaves Punk in a nowhere spot really.
Punk is a story guy, as much as he has fans on his side (I'm a fan) good performances in matches of unimportance, you can get that from anyone else on the roster. I'd rather see Cesaro/Ryback/Wade Barret etc viciously beat down Curtis Axel than Punk.
He left at a good time to me, catches his breath, does what he wants, can work out what he wants if/when he returns with Vince, and can come back feeling fresh in a hopefully big feud with more than 1 weeks worth of planning going into it.

I have no respect for a spoilt brat who storms off and throws a hissy fit, I hope to god he jobs to someone who deserves the push more, like 3MB for instance.
