People are obsessed with this graphic thing. They probably had both ready to go, and failing that, it would take two seconds to make a 21-1.

I imagine if that referee truly didn't know, he probably shit himself the second his hand hit the mat for the three. Probably figured he'd be super-duper fired over that one.

I thought the same thing. This wasn't some one-off Raw match. This was the Undertaker's Wrestlemania match. He may have gone into the match thinking Taker was going to win, but somebody MUST have told him the real finish before the three count, right? I mean, you wouldn't want to leave the outcome of a decades-in-the-making match left up the referee "following standard protocol". Maybe they did, though? We'll probably never know for sure.

They wear earpieces so I'd think Vince or Hunter told him just before the finish they were ending there.

The further removed we get from Wrestlemania, the more I can appreciate the ending of the streak. Taker can't go on forever and it's a pre-determined streak in a pre-determined sport so why not break it to create a truly memorable moment
Yeah I'd have liked the story around it to be better and the match (That's not a slam as there was a reason for it) but I can honestly say that I'll always remember that moment they counted the 3

I'm still not really okay with it at the moment, mainly because I don't trust Brock NOT to take his ball and go home again. But we'll see.

I think looking back, it was all too perfect. A boring feud that didn't seem too special and Undertaker looked like a bad ass. Then a match where Lesnar was the bad ass, and Undertaker couldn't keep up. It wasn't some entertaining spectacle that made 'Taker look good. It was just a disgusting fight where a beefed up monster destroyed this old legend with relative ease and legitimately scared those witnessing it. It was not like a movie-esque moment that could have been planned or thought up of, it actually looked like a legitimate beating that was never meant to look pretty. Like a real disaster or tragedy, nobody saw it coming, and the mix of real-life factors and odd build-up leave us with a really good story that could either end now or leave the door open for an awesome feud at a future Wrestlemania.

He tried the football thing and it didn't pan out. He did the MMA thing, but he likely can't go back because of health issues. Things are different from how they were a decade ago. As long as he is getting tons of cash and not working full-time, there's no reason to repeat history and leave.

As far as the bad build up goes. Meltzer noted in the new Observer that it was a Vince decree to limit Taker taking much punishment, since he gets hurt so easily now. They eventually acquiesced with the F5 on the go home show since the build had been bad, but the thought all along was to try to preserve Taker for the match.

I going to my standard argument. The streak means a lot more now that it's over than it did before last Sunday. All real sport win streaks end. Guys get to old, an opponent has the performance of their lives against them, etc. The more the streak was built up and the older UT got the faker it became to me and the more I wanted to see it end so I could honor what he had done in the past. The matches against other 40 somethings like HBK and HHH were fine because I could believe that all of those guys were/are nearing the end of their runs. The Punk match worked because Taker had so much size on him and I could kayfabe believe that wasn't going to let Punk win after what he said about Paul Bearer. But Lesnar? That was different. I assumed Taker would win because that's what happens. But I couldn't really suspend disbelief. I think it needed to end. Reality had to to take hold and the reality is that nearly 50 year old man isn't going to keep winning an athletic event against younger guys without it starting to look really fake and sad. I was a shocked as everyone else last week and even a little sad. I still think it was the right thing to do.

What were they expecting? The fans were legitimately shocked and they gave him a standing ovation once it sunk in that this was it. It's not the best send-off but then again, no one thought he was going to lose. And if they want a better one, that's what the Hall Of Fame or retirement announcement is for.

Doesn't help that almost everyone in attendance is expecting Sting in some fashion at some point.

Did they miss the giant "Thank You Taker" chant? They managed to spot that #ThankYouTaker was trending. The crowd was too busy being shocked that a guy that was 1/100 (Bet ONE HUNDRED to WIN ONE for those that dont follow gambling) in UK bookmakers had just lost a man that nobody realistically thought he would lose for reasons other than "anything can happen".

you know, I see Taker doing another match. People keep talking about what kind of shape he is in physically and how bad he looked at Mania and how he got hurt, but they don't seem to be willing to put together the fact that he didn't look that good because he had the concussion.
I think he'll wrestle next year with the question of "Do you want to go out a winner, or a loser?"
