So having thought about the whole controversy over the Apocalypse choking Mystique poster for a couple of days, I've come to this conclusion.
Violence against women is wrong in general and should never be tolerated. Unless previously provoked (and I'm talking a serious fight, not an argument) a man should NEVER raise their hands against a woman.
HOWEVER...
If you find an image depicting the main villain of a movie exerting his ancient mutant power and dominance in context to the plot over one of the most marketable protagonists offensive, then I'm sorry but you're fishing for something to be offended over.
It's a film about both women and men fighting a giant ancient mutant. Who should we put on the billboard? Jennifer Lawrence or Kodi Smit-McPhee? Who?
Exactly.
This isn't offensive.
Had the X-Men poster depicted out of context Apocalypse raping Mystique or an acid attack or something like that, then I would understand all the rage.
I am totally on the side of feminists in wanting to curb domestic violence, but this is just chasing in circles by going after this poster.

If they're pissy about Apocalypse poster, they'd have a bloody meltdown if this came out today

I just find that was a dumb image to use for a billboard. Even knowing the context of the image, how is that supposed to incite people to go to the theater to see it?

If they're pissy about Apocalypse poster, they'd have a bloody meltdown if this came out today The funny thing about that poster is that despite its terrifying nature, in that scene the alien leaves Ripley completely unharmed.

If they're pissy about Apocalypse poster, they'd have a bloody meltdown if this came out today Especially considering HR Geiger made everything about the aliens' design phallic. That's pretty much a poster of Sigourney Weaver cornered by a penis. On a related note, Alien 3 is probably my favorite Aliens movie, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who will say that.

Is Rose McGowan aware that Mystique herself has killed countless men in the various X-Men movies?

That does about sum up the advertising, which is hilarious since Mystique's fourth or perhaps even fifth banana in terms of importance to the story.

Violence against women didn't seem to bother Rose McGowan when she was in Scream and her character was brutally killed by a man using a garage door

I say keep it up and don't bow down to SJW stupidity. As for Rose McGowan, had she done anything since Charmed? Just seem like she trying to make herself a name again by creating controversy with this movie.

I saw a couple of billboards for the movie here in Houston. There was the Mystique & Apocalypse one and another one that featured just Cyclops.

That would mean more to me if it weren't for the errors with the grammar. I don't think either position is wrong, but this would be a non issue if they hasn't decide to use that image for the ad campaign, which is the biggest difference between this and the Deadpool examples.

I find the controversy over the poster stupid, but if you're going to make a double standard post, at least get a image that fits the double standard narrative because none of those choking images were used to market Deadpool.

That Deadpool meme might be the most agressively shit, annoying thing i've seen on the internet in a while. I don't care about what the controversy is over but if it's upsetting the sort of person who'd make that then keep it going.

That would mean more to me if any of those images were actually used to market the movie, let alone on a f***ing billboard. Also, no offense to anyone here, but I've seen that image posted on Facebook at least ten times now, and nearly every time it's posted, it's devolved into some of the dumbest arguments I've ever seen. And I've seen some dumbass arguments on the internet.

It's a great billboard. Show the main character in danger, causes people to wonder how she will get out of it.
Also, was there any rage during the trailers when it showed that? I don't seem to recall any.
