Did you guys hear about CM Punk? He's finally announced that he's retarded. It seems like every year he's sayin' he's retarded, and then he's not retarded, and now it seems like he's finally gonna be retarded for good.

I appreciate the time you put in to raise points about your no doubt valid and interesting view point in that essay of a post. Well if my phone didn't decide to go into business for itself, I had an actual post ready. For the record, I agree with you. Sorry for the mix-up.

A teammate of mine ended up making the triple jump at the olympics. He is not what I would consider a huge star by any stretch. However, I can tell you that every time I went out to a restaurant with him there was always someone to ask for a picture, ask for an autograph or something else. It gets very tiring. I know that for him personally he stopped going eat out as much because of the constant hassle.
I imagine with Punk it was a million times worse. At least my old teammate can still go to the mall and the grocery store without much problems.
People who have never had that life should not throw stones. Not saying that stars shouldn't be grateful, but there does come a point where it is a mental burden on you and becomes very tiring.
edit: the kid showing up at his house with candy is not cool. Amazing a parent actually condoned that. I can't see how that action can be justified.

I don't care if you are a cute little kid or not, showing up at someone's home uninvited is crossing the line no matter how famous the person is. The fans shouldn't be "rewarded" for stalking. See, I imagine a little boy holding hands with his mom trying to mail CM Punk a present on Easter, and innocently sliding the treat in his mail slot. Of course, if it was some crazy kid who shoves bags of candy in his windows and mail slot, while the mom rushed him to hurry before cops arrived, then it's a different story.

Punk should move to Los Angeles. No one would know/care who he is.

I saw Punk in a commercial for the IFC show Maron. Has he been on WTF? I know the show is separate from the podcast but that would be an interesting interview.

I thought the friend's name was Heath Slater at first glance and became extremely confused reading this thread...

Fans just need to realize there's a time and a place for everything. Autograph signings are for pictures and autographs. Pass him on the street? Perhaps thank him for entertaining you without making a spectacle about it and move on. And be courteous. He's always said that please and thank you go a long way when it comes to fans.

So according to some of the posters in this thread, if you're famous, even a little bit, you forfeit your right to privacy and to not be harassed.

Sometimes reading CM Punk threads make me think that most FAN users have an irrational hatred for him

I find it tough to really agree with either side on this totally, honestly. On one hand, Punk is a celebrity who is smart enough to have known what he was getting into by signing to WWE. WWE is not some small-time cult indie wrestling thing, and even for people at the bottom of the card, their level of fame is going to bump up substantially. He also spent his time clawing his way to the top of this hugely popular company that would merchandise his image everywhere. He worked in a popular entertainment company, not an office building. Also, he really has received substantial awards for that fame. He's rich, he's respected, he has the kind of political stroke in his industry only a handful of people have, and women probably themselves at him (not to say anything about the men that want to be like him and the kids that worship him). He has benefited tremendously, and the way Slater phrases her editorial kind of makes him look like an entitled asshole. "Oh, my wallet is too big!!! I am TOO successful!!!!" Guarantee 100 percent he would have been bitching for years if he had left WWE without ever making it to a main event spot or gotten the push he did.
At the same time, he's a human being, too, and at the end of the day, there is a limit. He should not have to put up with harassment and pacify over-the-top people like folks apparently hanging out in his backyard. That's weird, paparazzi-level behavior, and it should not be condoned. Seeing him out in public and trying your hand at talking to him is fair game -- him being an asshole or a saint about it is a different issue -- but going into his neighborhood and then his actual domicile is just way, way too weird. Again, there is a limit.

Some of the replies in this thread are mindblowing.
Just because it comes with the territory of being famous doesn't make it right.
I mean its one thing if you see him out on the street to aknowledge him, maybe nod, smile say "HI" or "I love your work, punk" or whatever and if he stops have a chat with him and see where that goes if not respect he might be busy and its nothing personal (from all accounts Punk is usually pretty chill if your not a douche to him)
I think this is the correct respectibal way to deal with a celebrity, if they are in a rush they wont stop, if they can they will
tracking down their addrees to shove candy through the letterbox however is an invasion of privacy, I don't care how young you are and how good your intentions are, the mmother should be scolded for encouraging that. Everyone has the right to privacy in their own home without fans of what they do on some tv show going out of their way to track them down
celebrity culture is pretty stupid. Things like paparazi is sickening, its fair enough at events like award shows were that is part of the deal and part of the obligations of the job but everyone should be entitled to a private homelife and not have it ruined just because they are on a tv show or in a film or whate er
