Here's a topic that I thought of at some point. There are plenty of actors and actresses, maybe even singers or rappers, maybe even bands, who got their break and are known. However, there are times when you first saw them in something and this was before their break into stardom. One example I can think of is Sofia Vergara. I know in a thread at one point, someone mentioned that he first saw her on a Spanish program, but with me, I mostly remember first seeing her in "Soul Plane," and this was five years before "Modern Family." I could say the same thing about Kevin Hart, but he might have been already known for his standup comedy before starring in that movie.
While this guy is not a celebrity per se, I may see actor Robert Maillet in movies like "Brick Mansions," "300" and "Sherlock Holmes," but to me, he will always be Kurrgan, as in The Oddities or Truth Commission.
What are your examples?

Besides Kurrgan...
I saw Jeff Dunham at a small comedy club on Long Island like a year before he suddenly became stupidly popular for some reason.

I mostly watched it for her because I thought she was gorgeous, and this was years before "Transformers."

I saw The Ark at the local music festival at a time when they might've released their first single. I recall recognizing one of their songs from the radio, and I think a friend convinced me to check them out at one of the smallest stages. They put on a great show in front of maybe a hundred or so people, got their breakthrough a month or two later, and the following year they were back, playing on the main stage.

She's just on the cusp of stardom but I'll still say Margot Robbie as she's been in Wolf Of Wall Street and will soon be in some more big movies. I saw her stealing every scene she was in as a guest character on Neighbours, back then I thought they were mad for not keeping her around and sure enough they bought her in as a regular and she was the best thing about it for ages. Actually I may have mentioned her here before *searches post history* yep I said she was going to be a huge star a few posts down on this page. officialfan.proboards.com/thread/378882/underappreciated-tv-hot-girlsI guess I could mention all sorts of British actors now they're all over American TV.

I was a fan of Amy Poehler's work on Upright Citizens Brigade well before she became a star on SNL or Parks and Rec.

Muse are local boys who I saw a couple of times in 1996. They were pretentious twats back then, and I've never warmed up to their work since.

Tons of bands. I was into Powerman 5000, Monster Magnet, Kid Rock, and Insane Clown Posse among others way before they started getting radio play.
Also, when everyone was raving about The 40 Year Old Virgin, I kept telling my friends that Seth Rogen would become a much bigger star, and no one agreed.

Jesse Metcalfe will always be Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions to me One example I can think of is Sofia Vergara. My first exposure to Kevin Hart was an ABC/TGIF sitcom from about 2003-2004 called The Big House. He played a spoiled rich kid whose father was sent to jail for embezzlement, and had to go live with his middle class family oriented aunt, uncle and cousins. Keith David was the uncle, and Faizon Love (Big Worm from Friday) was the cousin who got them into wacky adventures. I remember Sofia Vergara from another short lived TGIF sitcom called Hot Properties. It was basically Sex and the City-lite.

Sacha Baron Cohen
Saw him for years in time filler bits between programmes on the Paramount Channel. "Bruno" started there, bothering people at fashion shows.

He was also in a random Madonna video before really doing anything in America. Stephen Colbert was on Strangers with Candy before getting his gig with the Daily Show... and well before his permanent gig as host of the Report

I actually know Josh Stewart who starred in The Collector and The Collection and was Bane's main henchman in The Dark Knight Rises. He's currently in that new Johnny Depp movie Transcendence which didn't fair so well at the box office. He is my cousin's cousin but of no relation to me. He used to come to my cousin's house when we were younger and we'd play football or basketball.

Did Sofia Vergara ever work with Odalys Garcia? I'd have loved that foursome, er, pair!
As for me...Dominic Monaghan (sp?) Before Lost, before LOTR, he was on "Hetty Wainthropp Investigates," a British show they used to have on Mystery!

There were several that I knew as guest stars on Boy Meets World before they got super famous: Brittany Murphy, Mena Suvari, Keri Russell, Adam Scott, etc.
