Oh FFS. Retconning Episodes I-III is an incredibly stupid idea. They get Nirvana Hate. People just bandwagoned onto the hatred of them. They're not great movies, but they are nowhere near as bad as the loud minority makes out. If Disney announces a retcon of them, I for one won't be seeing VII-IX.

Revenge of the Sith is a pretty good movie overall, my favourite next to Empire. Would hate to see it retconned.
Kids of the 20000s had their childhoods and adolescenses forged by those movies, the older dweebs from the 70s to 80s need to realize their day in the sun is long over and make way for new opinions and ideas.

I like the thought of them being released without the changes. I don't like the rumor it mentions that Disney is going to remove the prequels from the official canon. They had their flaws, sure, but in a world that loves reboots, a Star Wars reboot is the last thing we need. I dunno...in this case a remake is NEEDED.

It'd be nice to live in a world where midichlorians are no longer recognised. And no Gungans. And Anakin not being an annoying kid, then a pissed off, insincere Backstreet Boy. And being played by someone with TALENT. And Vader not whining when he's created, even! If people are out there insisting that the Prequels should not be erased, fine. Just get someone to re-edit them (oh, the irony!) to get rid of the above and more. (ala the fanmade "Phantom Edit.") See how Lucas likes a taste of his own revisionist history medicine!

Hopefully this is all legit. Disney stands to cash in nicely with a solid Blu Ray release of the original prints, if they can make it happen.
As for the other rumor about removing the prequels from canon...who cares? Most people don't know/give a damn about the very word "canon", and if it means a chance to do better and much more creative takes on prequel characters, settings, ideas, themes, etc., then it's all for the best, anyway. I doubt they wind up doing it, but there are enough potentially interesting themes introduced in the prequels that I'd be thrilled to see a lot of them redone by somebody who can actually execute them and get them across.

While it wasn't enough to prevent me from buying the BluRays, the addition of the "Nooo!" to that scene is the only change to the movies I had an issue with. See, I'm actually the opposite. I think the "NOOOOO!!!" works better how's it added to Jedi than how it originally was in Sith. Not saying that it should have been added to begin with, but it doesn't ruin the movie for me. And I'll plays opposites too: I didn't mind it in RotS and thought it worked. At least in RotS he's still basically younger whiny Anakin just newly encapsulated in armor. So screaming makes sense. The pain is fresh to him - and it works too as basically his final moment of emotion. His life as he knew it is truly over. (It's just weird hearing James Earl Jones act like Hayden Christensen - but again, it was smart of them to have JEJ voice it like he's a younger emotional jerk. At that moment he is more Hayden-Anakin than ANH/ESB/RotJ Vader.) In RotJ, he's 20 years older, more worn out, more evil, more cruel. And it's a moment that worked in pure silent rage. He didn't need to yell. If ANYTHING, the quieter "No" they added works better. Still ruins the silence of his redemption, but it's much more acceptable than yelling.

Pretty sure somebody from Disney said almost immediately that they were going to be releasing the Original films on Blu. I was actually just thinking the other day that I'd be surprised if they weren't out by Christmas this year

And to piss on Lucas' leg a little more, RELEASE THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL.
/Though knowing what we know, it wouldn't be released, it would escape...

Does that version that used to be on Google Video still exist on the youtubes somewhere? I remember watching it with the Rifftrax and it was pretty much the only thing to make that abomination watchable. It makes Episodes I and II look like the goddamn Godfather Parts I and II by comparison.

Doubt it. I'd find it hard to believe that for example Anakin accidently destroying the Trade Federation droid control ship had anywhere near the iconic impact on kids as Luke destroying the Death Star had on the previous generation. The older "dweebs" had to endure films they loved and adored being essentially vandalised and undermined to conform to "new opinions and ideas" in the prequels and revisionism from George Lucas that are far inferior to everything meaningful in the classic trilogy.

The prequel trilogy didn't had an stupid story IMO, the problem where some specific things that ruined the whole thing
At least how anakin was discovered to his fall at the dark side was perfectly booked imo, and Hayden Christianssen made a good role since he made anakin look like an annoying prick who will go to the dark side easily

I love the emerging group I've seen lately who argue that yknow the prequels are actually rather beloved by the masses it's just a select minority of nerds that don't get how awesome they are.
I find it endlessly amusing.

I tend to subscribe to RLM's theory, that Lucas really didn't put much thought into the screenplays. They sound like they were written relatively quickly with little care or consideration given to them.

I figured it was only a matter of time once they bought the franchise.

If they want to retcon EP I-III, then why not just call "Episode VII," "Episode IV" and just re-number the original trilogy I, II, & III, and just ignore the prequels? I'm kidding...sorta.

That's a big part of it, there's always a specific mention that critics of the SE/prequels say that their childhoods were raped.
