I like the thought of them being released without the changes. I don't like the rumor it mentions that Disney is going to remove the prequels from the official canon. They had their flaws, sure, but in a world that loves reboots, a Star Wars reboot is the last thing we need.

No, the original cuts were never released on blu-ray......in fact the blu-rays have even more unnecessary changes made to them!

Now see.......I seem to recall after the sale that Fox still has a big hand in distribution rights for the original trilogy. If this happens, it's gonna be less-than-desirable for Disney's profits. Also, the original cuts have been on DVD - in 3 2-disc sets (along with the special editions) that LucasFilm let go out of print fairly quickly IIRC. No, the original cuts were never released on blu-ray......in fact the blu-rays have even more unnecessary changes made to them! Indeed. I have screamed at my TV every time they get to the death of the Emperor when they added that goddamn NOOOOOOOO. And I watched it twice because I somehow completely blocked it out of my mind after the 1st time.

If Disney decanonise the terrible prequels and release the original trilogy unaltered, I may become a Star Wars fan again.

i thought they already released the original cuts on blu-ray seriously, how many copies have been released of the same three movies The most recent transfer of the original films was the one created for the CAV Laserdisc set in 1993, then re-used for the VHS/CLV laserdiscs in 1995 and ported to DVD in 2006 (its flaws due to age, technical limitations and primitive DNR very apparent). I would love to see these films get a modern HD transfer, and wish the same for other great titles stuck with 90s laserdisc masters (True Lies, The Abyss, They Shoot Horses Don't They?). It was such a revelation to finally get a new transfer for Cabaret last year (which had been stuck with an LD transfer from the early 90s until then).

I would buy Blu-Ray versions of the unaltered original movies. I'm OK with the original DVD release's alterations, but I'd love to see the original cuts get a proper release on Blu-Ray.
The rumor about Disney outright retconning Episodes 1-3 I hope is false though. Were they the best movies? Of course not (well I liked Episode III but yeah). But it is what it is and they do have some bright spots, like Darth Maul's lightsaber duels and pretty much any scene with Ian McDiarmind.

THAT'S what I meant by "decent release" in the thread title. a 13 year old laserdisc master slapped half-assedly onto a DVD is not a decent release!

I don't care if you hate the prequels-- de-canonizing them is a stupid idea that'll only appeal to an insignificant minority.

Yeah, when you start retconning things that seriously it always leads to something like Batman Beyond fighting an evil cyborg Wonder Woman with robot spider legs. No good can come of it.

Disney could decanonise the prequels, then announce that they'll make new ones.
They'll make shitloads of money. If they need tips on how to improve them, just watch RLM's reviews.
It will result in three instantly better screenplays.

If Disney removes the prequels from canon, feel free to look out your window to watch me dancing in the streets.

It'd be nice to live in a world where midichlorians are no longer recognised.

But if the decanonize the sequels, then they'll get rid of Revenge of the Sith--the second best movie in the whole series. It's good news that they're releasing the original trilogy in all its glory, though.

Indeed. I have screamed at my TV every time they get to the death of the Emperor when they added that goddamn NOOOOOOOO. And I watched it twice because I somehow completely blocked it out of my mind after the 1st time. When they announced the entire 6 movie set on blu-ray, I pre-ordered from Amazon that same day. When the leaks came out about the new revisions, when they showed this part, I immediately cancelled. I could live with the extra dewback walkers, added scenery to Cloud City, and even somehow Hayden Christianson in place at the end of RotJ but seeing Darth Vader yelling "NOOOOO" (which I believe was the sound clip taken straight from RotS) that was the final straw.

Give it 10-20 years and they will release versions that you can edit yourself! Remove anything you want and add back deleted scenes that you want. Mix and match original/SE versions.
Star Wars: George Lucas it yourself version!

I think the "NOOOOO!!!" works better how's it added to Jedi than how it originally was in Sith. Not saying that it should have been added to begin with, but it doesn't ruin the movie for me.
