Just remembered a big one.
Psycho.
The story was told in the first one, we didn't need more.

They should have left well enough alone with The Matrix. Sure, continue the stories in comics/games/whatever. But Hollywood should have stayed away. Instead, we got two turds that killed the franchise. Additionally, did the world REALLY need this:

For that matter, I remember watching Marz Gurl's reviews on ALL the Land Before Time movies. I mean, they are up to I believe 14 of them. Again, a case of a great movie spawning countless pointless sequels.

As it was a satire of slashers... I don't know... not to mention it would still be 22 years after the first movie and have to live in the shadow of the Hitchcock classic.

I liked the first Chainsaw sequel with Dennis Hopper and the remake with Jessica Biel wasn't bad. The latest sequel was garbage.

I dispute that in a way. It needed sequels. They didn't all have to be about Michael Myers. They should have continued the route that Halloween 3 took, telling different stories around the holiday's time.

Eh if it went in the direction of 3 I could see it... but they basically painted themselves into a corner with 2 Meyers movies first.

Did the world need 4 Meatballs? Was there that much story left untold after Meatballs: The Motion Picture, let alone Meatballs 3?
Here's another one, Poison Ivy.
I actually disagree with any horror/sci-fi choices, franchises are so ingrained into that genre. It's like... you almost take away from the presence/prestige of any of those titles if it doesn't have a litany of sequels/followups/reimaginings to its name, even if all of them suck.
Here's another one, K-9. Has two sequels. WHY?

Every sports movie, even Rocky (and I love Rocky) I pretend the series ended at 3. I thought 2 and 3 were good. I like Drago, but Creed is still alive in my world. Thunderlips and Clubber Lang are two of my favorite and most quotable characters ever(so is Drago,FWIW).

His goal was to prove that he could just last and not be the bum that everyone thought he was. Giving him the title just killed the message to me.

Well, it's brilliant in comparison to "Highlander: The Source", anyway. True, but ANYTHING compared to the source could be considered brilliant Also I thought people thought the 3rd movie was "ok" but not as good as the first one... then again that might have just been their reaction after seeing Highlander 2 Highlander 3 was semi-decent in that it was just the first one in a different setting, written a little worse as well. It's definitely not as out-right offensive as some of the other movies that claimed to be canon. At least the TV show was like hey, it's an alternate reality, shush now.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The original is a perfect standalone horror story. The very idea of turning it into a franchise kinda robs the original film of its "based on a true story" impact. I can't agree with that as it would have robbed us of Part 2, which would have been a terrible loss for all of cinema. Besides, the "based on a true story" claim is bullshit (Leatherface is VERY vaguely inspired by Ed Gein and that's about it). Plus I actually found the original kind of dull for the most part. I know the film isn't actually based on a true story, I mean more in terms of the tone of the flick being more real. I didn't care for any of the sequels, which basically felt like remakes to begin with. But even still, an isolated incident of insanity feels way scarier to me than a "franchise" of them (even though I've enjoyed flicks in other horror franchises).
