The Billionaire Ted skits were funny at the time but counterproductive and sour grapes in a lot of ways. Savage was quite an effective wrestler up until tearing his knee up in 1998 and then his 1999 run was lousy. WCW was actually a clearly better show for most of the late 1995/early 1996 period, with the occasional goofy misstep like the triple cage match at Uncensored.
One aspect of this series that they have not discussed and cannot come to terms with is that fans rejected the WWF New Generation (and Kliq) crap for most of the 1994-95 period. They talk about Nash being this major loss, but why? He was the worst drawing champion of all time. Razor Ramon had basically lost all momentum by early 1996 anyway, so why was losing him any big deal? They did mention the fact that Nitro soared past Raw right as HBK got the title, but said it was on no level Shawn's fault. I disagree. A lot of guys at my HS REALLY did not like Shawn Michaels, really didn't want to see Goldust doing his creepy act, the whole HBK/Diana storyline, etc.

The Monday Night Wars show, like, at first I thought it was interesting, and WCW f***ed up a lot, but like, it's like I'm watching propaganda films or something. I'm watching a Nitro now from early February of 1996, and the first match is Randy Savage vs Chris Benoit. And one thing I remember from when I was a kid was not getting to watch Nitro and just second run shows, but I was a die hard WWE fan as a kid, so I was like, yeah, Savage and Hogan are old geezers and they can't do anything. Savage let Benoit just beat him down, and I have heard Kevin Sullivan talk about how Hogan didn't want to work with guys like Benoit due to a styles clash and he wanted to make Hogan feel comfortable that he wasn't gonna get screwed over, but Randy Savage was a whole different animal altogether. He made Benoit look like a title contender in 1996 (and it was a World Title match that ended on a DQ). I'm watching the Nitros to keep up with Sullivan's show "Helluva Deal" where they go through Nitros like this. Savage, despite being older, definitely belonged in the WCW main event picture at that time, despite being poisoned by WWE's Billionaire Ted skits when I was a kid. But yeah, Sullivan's MLW podcast is great companion piece, and I'mr really noticing what is being said. Sullivan talked about how Hogan didn't seem to have the confidence he once had, at least in those early 1996 shows, and the contrast to Randy Savage who looked like the top guy in the company and wrestled like one too. It's insane how much Sullivan bent over backwards to help Hogan, but at the time, Hogan was a big time merch seller and did help bring WCW to the dance, so it's a tough spot to be in as a booker. Randy was more gung ho when it came to helping guys out. Just look at the DDP feud and the fact he gave Vince props for putting the belt on Eddie. Mach knew what was up.

This MNW show sucks, why do they never mention when Raw started or Nitro? Or about ratings??? That's what I wanna see. A nice shot of the ring, with Vince saying "WELCOME TO MONDAY NIGHT RAW!" a nice little graphic in the upper left that says "Manhattan Center January 1993" I can't take it anymore..... or at the very least, a slow panning shot of an 8x10 of Ted Turner surrounded by bricks, barbwire, and other miscellaneous debris, with the word "battleground" used at least 73 times!

The "Have A Nice Day" episode is on the live stream now. I love how one of the clips from Foley's student film "The Loved One" has a picture of Foley taped onto a women's magazine with the line "What do women think of the dude?" underneath. It's great that in this film's universe, not only is Dude Love such a mainstream sex symbol from his fame as WWF Champion to not only appear in a women's magazine, but can just be referred to as "The Dude" and their readers would automatically be on board to immediately recognize him as Dude Love the WWF Champion who is catnip to ladies everywhere.

I'm guessing next week will be the Russo episode since this week's episode ended on something of a cliffhanger.

Yea, I reckon we get Russo next week. This episode wasn't really about mistakes but really about the rocky Flair/Bischoff relationship

That's the best term I could come up with. The episode ended with Bischoff being removed from power and the announcer asking if the next man in line would right the ship or sink it.

I really enjoyed this one. It had more of a story aspect to it (one that hasn't been told a million times), and it wasn't retreading the same ground over and over like some of the episodes tend to do. Super looking forward to the Russo episode.

Seeing Bischoff's audition video with WWF was quite something. Let's say he couldn't carry a broom quite like Ric Flair could.
Seems like the Russo episode next week. And given he did that sit down with WWE a year or two back, we should get quite a few fresh quotes out of it.

The Russo episode won't be very good, or at least I fear it won't. Given that in previous episodes they actually put over Russo's WCW stint to some extent (praising Hogan/Kidman, his attempts to push younger talent, etc.), it doesn't seem as though they will trash him that badly. Truth be told, Russo's basic instincts might have had some merit, but he had no idea how to put together a competent wrestling program.

Since they kinda keep replaying stuff I get a laugh that they pretty much removed Kevin Nash's "look at the adjective play" consistently when they show him as an outsider.

The schedule is up to Tuesday - no new episode this week, it's a repeat of the Cruiserweights episode.
