I like him, so he's good to me. That's the only thing I care about. Am I entertained? Yep? Then he's good.

I'm sort of confused by the thread, as pretty much all of page 1 bar the opening post was people saying 'he's solid but could be better, they shouldn't ruin him' followed by a few pages of people saying 'everyone hates him because he's getting a push' without discussing other posts suggesting what could help Reigns out.
Surely it's better to look at why he isn't at the peak of his talents and think about/discuss why some of us LIKE him and believe he CAN do better than saying 'push, pfft, just because the WWE prefers him means he's great and people are just looking to complain'.
I'm not sure if it's the gimmick posters bringing out the worst in discussion around here within themselves/others getting wound up at them lately but the general consensus consider Reigns a good charismatic upstart who has all the promise in the world, but he's been shoved into a match style that makes him look less effective, and his promos seem more snarky Frank Miller anti-hero than vengeful being bent on taking out his opponents.
Considering some posts in here it's like people think 70% of this thread is people burying Reigns when, what, 3/4 posts have done that (and one or two of those were gimmick posters) whilst others with legitimate thoughts on the booking have given detail to why Reigns sort of sticks out right now.
For the record I think Reigns could be great, I LOVE Batista like upstarts, (relative) power guys who break out of groups to take out the head of a faction, and Rollins & Ambrose are being pushed just as much but with more subtletly/less jarring matches & promos. Ambrose & Seth have more experience so seem less awkward in ring/on mic (not that Reigns is that awkward at all, and yes, Seth CAN improve greatly on the mic as well), with time Reigns could join them as a well rounded superstar as long as the booking helps him out a bit more.

He's only had one squash match so far, but Baron Corbin is doing a better job what Roman Reigns should be like.
To piggyback off Sean's point, this makes me wonder how Ultimate Warrior would be booked in today's WWE.

I want him to succeed, I really do, but the guy needs to emote when he speaks.
Renee asked him a question last night and without even pretending to think about/absorb what she said, he goes straight into this fast-paced, way too detailed to the point where it's OBVIOUSLY a pre-written/prepared speech, and puts no emotion into at all.
He just read the script like he was supposed to but forgot to make it sound natural. And it hurts me because I kinda like Roman and want him to get better.

They had Seth Rollins on all fours and talking about rhinos yesterday If I had my way, Reigns wouldn't say anything at all.

He's not bad. There just hasn't really been any character development for him since the Shield breakup, which hurts him because while he has a great presence, he wasnt the most interesting guy in the world to start with. Throw in the fact that they're being very transparent about pushing him as the next top guy, and I can see why he's getting on peoples nerves. But to say that he's a terrible wrestler or that he's any worse than a lot of WWEs golden gooses over the years is crazy to me. Dude's fine, he's just burdened with a massive spotlight being placed on him and everyone picking him apart because of it. I liked the Orton match at SummerSlam, I liked the match against Rollins (as stupid as it was to have it in the first place), and the crowd still really digs him. You really don't need much else. He should also only get better as a singles wrestler in the next 6 months. Here's to hoping that something about his character becomes just as interesting in that same period of time. Not expecting it, and I think he'll be fine (if not bland) without it, but I think he could use it. Either way though, he certainly isn't bad imo.

In the SHIELD his weaknesses were covered. Ambrose and Rollins would handle the mic work, and Reigns could be counted on for a few impact movies.
As a singles guy and with WWE's awful booking which gives him no protection, his weaknesses are fully exposed.
WWE is like Kevin Spacey in Glengarry Glen Ross.

He's not bad, I just don't buy for a second that this is the guy that's going to take the torch from Cena.

Like he was head and shoulders above every young guy on the roster talent wise (mic skills) when he was being pushed, bar none. I mean Orton was the same Reigns "this is how we're gonna push him, he's gonna be THE TOP GUY for the next decade" push. And through his own shortcomings and attitude, Orton never reached that level and Cena passed his ass by. Sure Orton eventually found his little niche, but you can bet your ass it was nowhere near where WWE pegged him to be at. That's what I'm a little weary of with Reigns. They're gonna push him before he's ready, he'll get exposed and then you've just got some 3rd string second banana guy that you wanted at the top but never panned out that way. And those guys are fine of course...but they seem to be trying to find their next John Cena/Hulk Hogan guy right this moment (at this very moment! /mcgillicuty voice). And it's not Reigns, not at this very moment at least.

I stopped reading this after the part where Reigns "squashed" Rollins. Let's look up what that term means before we use it, eh?

Yeah. The difference between Cena and Reigns is that Cena wasn't supposed to be The Guy but they've handpicked Reigns to be The Guy from on high. they're basing it on his reaction at the Rumble and in the Shield Even before that reaction was set in stone, he tied the Survivor Series record and was well on the way to breaking the Rumble one before the crowd really began to rally behind him (which, while it was notable beforehand, only really got huge when he was the only non-Batista choice left). Plus even before that they were constantly talking up how awesome he is and were beginning to refer to him as the Shield's leader. It's been planned from day one. Granted, I can see why, but they're fast-tracking it and they need to at least present the pretense of him having to work for it. Within thirteen months of his first match the guy set both of those records, nobody who isn't being groomed to be huge is doing that.

He's kind of one note and limited, in the way that many of these big, relatively green guys are. But he's not bad, particularly.
He needs a long, midcard programme with an experienced worker, to get him ready for any sort of main event push. Unfortunately, he's not getting that, and he doesn't seem to be improving much.
And I don't see how he's ever going to be The Guy, because nothing about his character suggests he's got that sort of appeal. He's the brooding, silent badass who has occasional bouts of intense anger. And that sort of guy can't be your figurehead, because he doesn't have the right energy to occupy that position. Hulkster was charisma overload, Stone Cold was just buckets of aggression and blue collar appeal. The Rock was a bit more like Reigns, early on, but he always had the gift of the gab, and seemed effortless on the mic. And Cena's main event push began when he was a rapper, taking the piss out of his opponents. So Reigns, the guy who seems awkward and uncomfortable whenever he's asked to do more than one of his few signature moves or stand there looking impressive? No, he's not going to be the face of the company.
Doesn't mean he can't have a good career, though.

Isn't the problem just that he only has like 7 moves, and his two finishers are goofy and require run-ups? And so all of his matches are quite boring?
