This movie made no sense at so many different points. And I swear, people were mostly positive on T3 when it came out. At worst people thought it was meh. Now I see people acting like it is Transformers 2 level awfulness. I sorta get how it wasn't the most necessary movie plot-wise, but I still really liked T3. It's Salvation that I didn't like.

Now I see people acting like it is Transformers 2 level awfulness. I wouldn't compare T3 to Transformers 2. It's more like Superman Returns. I think the biggest thing that hurt T3 was that they didn't do a timely sequel that picked up with Danes/Stahl. Without that story being continued, you have a jokey prelude to a story that was never told, with a lot of campy humor that hasn't aged well, nothing actually legitimately good on the level of T1 or T2, nothing overly offensive but it's a real slog. Salvation did not pick up from where T3 left off, and is much more a Transformers 2 piece of shit. This seems as good a place as any to mention that Terminator 2 has been re-released on Blu-ray. It's not a new transfer, still what was used as the basis of the 2003 DVD release, but it has not been smeared with DNR like the 2009 Skynet Blu-ray and has lossless audio and a solid AVC encoding unlike the 2006 Blu-ray. There's hemming and hawwing about stretching but it's certainly the best T2 home release in these United States.

I've actually been holding off on getting T1 or T2 because of the flawed transfers for eons, so I'm relying on you to tell me when there is an elite one. Is it a spoiler to wonder why they never bothered to explain who or what sent the original terminators back when Sarah was 9?

Is it a spoiler to wonder why they never bothered to explain who or what sent the original terminators back when Sarah was 9? T1 - 2013 Blu-ray has a great transfer. It's likely that the color timing is revisionist, but there's so much fine detail that it's basically something worth living with. Unfortunately, all the audio on the Blu-ray is revisionist remixes. I watched it with the Blu-ray synced to my THX LD with the original audio. But, basically, the 2013 Blu-ray is good to go. As far as elite goes, I think this is unfortunately as good as it will get barring a re-release that includes the original audio (which on some level is more of a weird purist flaw than something most people would even see as a flaw). T2 - The 2015 Blu-ray is the best we're going to get barring a true new film-video transfer. Even with that, I suspect the improvements would be marginal at best (although I'd certainly upgrade for less edge enhancement and more fine detail), and would likely be accompanied by revisionist color timing. As far as elite, I think we're almost guaranteed to see a new transfer at some point, but this is a solid Blu-ray.

I never saw 3. My only thought on it when it came out was "Why?"
Saw Salvation. That was terrible.
This one I'll pass on. I got the first two. That's the story complete. I'm good.

I like Terminator 3. Could have used the the Terminator theme, though.

I haven't seen the movie yet but in the scene from the trailer when old Arnie approaches young Arnie, do we see Bill Paxton getting killed? Because this re-writing of history could have a butterfly effect where he and Shao Kahn reprogram Skynet to be the greatest laundry service instead of weapons defenses. With every order, a Terminator brings your clothes and says "laundry day, right" The Genysisisisis... delivery of the line "Wash day tomorrow? Nothing clean?" is the most obnoxious botch since THAT Jackie Gayda match. The first 30 minutes of this movie makes you really wish you were watching The Terminator. #nodickmillernopeace

I thought the first thirty minutes were awesome. But when the movie goes in a different direction, it's kind of jarring and doesn't feel like you're watching a Terminator movie anymore. But I guess I still enjoyed it overall as a sci fi action film. Yeah, I told my friend that a certain angles Emilia Clarke does look a lot like a young Linda Hamilton. They clearly put the effort in to making her resemble Linda Hamilton, make a digital double of 1984 Arnie... Yet cast the least Michael Biehn-looking actor possible for Kyle Reese and make no effort to make him seem like the same character. Apparently it came down to Jai Courtney and Boyd Holbrook, who not only looks like Biehn but has a slim physique, perfect for the role. Courtney is ripped like a Terminator.

I've never seen him act, but he'd surely Holbrook would be an improvement. Not only does Jai Courtney look like a terminator, he has all the emotional range of one too.

Saw it this evening. While I enjoyed the 1984 stuff, and really appreciated the attempts to match the cinematography from the first film, the rest was pretty poor. I cannot stress enough how miscast Jai Courtney is and how dire his performance is.
One of the main things that made the first two films work but are often overlooked was the strength of the acting. While Arnold will never be anything more than a mediocre actor both films catered to his strengths perfectly, Linda Hamilton was outstanding as both a damsel in distress and a traumatised warrior, Michael Biehn hit every note right as Reese, and even Edward Furlong gave a solid performance in T2. Throw in top-notch supporting casts and it's no wonder both films are still held in such high regard.
Since then the franchise has put special effects first and taken a "that'll do" approach to the actors and the performances. This one doesn't buck that trend.

I enjoyed it for the most part and IMO it is the best attempt at a 3rd film in the franchise and Emilia Clarke was the best thing about the movie and that surprised me considering I went into this ready to absoloutley despise her character but she makes a great young Sara Connor.

Arnold was great in it , The timeline changing, erasing other aspects got very confusing at times . The guy who played Kyle Reese was an abomination , The actors playing Sarah Connor and John Connor did pretty well with the roles , overall I'd say it was better than t3 and t4 -

Jai Courtney's always awful, yet hollywood seems hell-bent on casting him in everything. He was McClane Jr in the Die Hard film IIRC, and bad in that.

I won't lie, I thought it was pretty darn good. Probably the second best entry in the series. I did have low expectations going in, but I was dumbfounded by how good it was compared to how terrible the trailers and everything made it look. Very solid action film and a great Terminator movie.
So yeah, I'd recommend seeing it. It's much, much better than T3 or Salvation. In fact, if this was Terminator 3, I think people would feel a lot better about it--because a lot of people are jaded towards it in the first place due to how disappointing the last two have been.

I can't believe they had that scene with the boombox and the song wasn't You Could Be Mine. I mean considering how many easy callbacks the movie has (Dead Terminators Don't Wear Living Tissue).

I saw it today
I enjoyed it, plot was a bit messy with a few holes and some of the acting was dire but it was a fun movie, it doesn't alter my cannon (T1 & T2 are those only ones I call cannon) but it's cool as a "What If?"
If I had to give a number - 7/10 If I had to give a letter - C A sentence - "A fun movie but don't expect anything brilliant"
Also f*** that trailer for ruining what could have been a pretty neat twist.

This is starting to bug me in movies, "A sequel will explain it" What guarantee do you have that you will get a sequel, tell it all in the one film because if you can't do a sequel then we're stuck with a Movie full of holes.
