Maybe you can't get a firm read on whether someone famous is a good person or not based on a 30 second interaction?

I think Jericho is in a weird position. In wrestling he was around 7th or so during the attitude era...but in the entire real world, he might be behind only Austin and the Rock. He just has way more irons in the fire than other non Austin/Rock wrestlers. He has his musical career, tv shows/appearances, podcast, etc while the others of that period (and wrestling in general) are only wrestlers...and maybe play a big guy in a movie or two...

I hear a lot of talk about how he's kind of a dick in person, would love to hear some of these as I almost met him at a book signing once but my ride bailed(back when the second book came out). I love stories of beloved 'known' people being dicks. I know @supersweetbotch has a story or two of Jericho being a decent fella. I've heard tons of negative stories about meeting CM Punk too and dude was cool as hell to me. I met Jericho once randomly during the 2010 Grey Cup and he was a chill guy. It was cool he talked to me for a few minutes when he was obviously having the time of his life tailgating with his Fozzy members getting drunk out of his ass and I was sporting the greasiest Movember Handlebar stache. I also had friends in Fort Mac who randomly met Jericho drinking with his Fozzy bandmates getting drunk off their asses in a bar and he bought them shots and arm wrestled one of them. So what I'm trying to say is if you know me in real life, you'll probably randomly bump into Jericho in the most random of places without knowing he was in town to begin with. Edit: Also dude is hella of short but he has the hands of a giant. His hands might of been the 3rd biggest hands I have ever shook in my life.

I did have a bit of a "don't meet people you are fans of" moment with him that might have helped inspire this thread... I went to his last book signing in Tampa last weekend, which is where he lives. I stood in line watching him engage everyone, ask for people's names and personalize their autographs, etc. Well, his wife and kids showed up. They were standing right beside me and I blurted out "Is this Ash the fish expert?" Ash turned around and high fived me and Jericho said "it is and these are (whatever his daughter's names are) the literary experts! (To the kids) See how many fans you guys have!" Ok, so cool moment.. But, his wife then said they were going to eat. Jericho said he wanted to come and she said something along the lines of well you will be here a while. Jericho straight up said I will hurry it along just wait. Now, granted, his wife is a bad motha hush yo mouth in person, so I would probably do the same. But, he just rushed us completely through. He still looked up to pose for pics, but didn't ask my name or really engage much at all. That rubbed me a wrong way a bit. Just a smidge, it wasn't too blatant and I had the cool moment with his kids, but the people in front of me got a lot more. The guy in front of me asked of Jericho would sign ARMBAR and Jericho said no, but he signed Fozzy on my copy, which made me wonder why he couldn't at least make that change for a fan who waited to see him and paid money? Sorry for the long story! ...That seems totally reasonable by him, imo.

Someone in a carny business having an inflated ego or sense of purpose talking up how great or how big of star they are?
Nah...
Seriously though, if this came from Jericho with a straight face, that would be odd. Fact is, Jericho's gimmick, his aura, everything about him for the last 15+ years of his career/life has involved being that puffed up ego tripping rock star. The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla if you will. Add that to the fact that he's an over the top wild and crazy guy that worships the gods of metal who are massive egoists in their own right, and of course he's going to come off as thinking he's a bigger star than he is.

It doesn't mean that cause you try other things that you are famous at the other things. I don't know if some lady watching Dancing with the Stars remembered him. Hogan is more famous outside wrestling that Jericho. What Jericho did outside of wrestling doesn't matter and will never matter.

Yea, it wasn't too bad, just kinda sucked seeing ppl in front of you having these really cool interactions and you didn't get that. I paid the same as they did.

No, but three in-depth books written by him about his life are a pretty good indicator All his books have told me is that he's a really cool person with a big heart. He's got an ego but its the healthy kind that drives his success and can be checked once in a while to bring him back down to earth.

I worked with him on a project for Sci-Fi. He was great. Easy going, funny, generous, told some of the best stories. He also asked about some of our coolest experiences working in the film industry. He completely geeked out about us working on Corner Gas (most popular Canadian TV show ever).

In his new book, he calls MacGruber a cult classic.
I don't really have much else to add, I just didn't want to make a new thread since this one exists.

While I am a Chris Jericho fan, his popularity is vastly overrated by both himself and the IWC. I'm very stingy with my rankings, but I have him somewhere in tier 3.
My tiers take in consideration impact on professional wrestling as well as mainstream success and are from a strictly WWE point of view.
Tier 1 (#s 1-10): Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Macho Man Randy Savage, Mr. McMahon, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker
Tier 2 (#s 11-20): Bob Backlund, Bret "Hit Man" Hart, Brock Lesnar, Mick Foley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Triple H, The Ultimate Warrior
Tier 3 (not limited to just these guys at all, but to give examples of a Tier 3 wrestler): Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Eddie Guerrero, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, Superfly Jimmy Snuka

He comes in, gets great pops, and gets good matches out of just about everybody. He can do that until he is a skeleton and be more over than a lot of the rosters currently available.

Shawn Michaels himself said that in the wrestling business you have to have a big ego/being a mark for yourself or else you won't make it.

I guess I shouldn't be shocked that most wrestlers have a massive ego, but it always does take me a bit by surprise when I hear either him or RVD give interviews by how massive their egos are.

Maybe you can't get a firm read on whether someone famous is a good person or not based on a 30 second interaction? This is true, but it's worth noting that Jericho is guilty of the same thing in his book on a few occasions, most notably with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack Black.
