Honestly, the worse part of it was when he had to correct himself and say "four sides", because he said it in such a sheepish way that it completely undid everything he said. If he had just let it slide, and let the announcers spout their usual condescending shit, he might have been able to pull it off.
But let's face facts. He was going to lose to BNB no matter what he said. No promo was going to make them suddenly put him over. I think even if he nailed the promo, he still won't get pushed, I hate to say.

Did anyone but me think that this was done as a subtle rib on CM Punk by the writers since he went out there sat down and did a terrible pipebomb promo and then was promptly buried. Even without the botch that's all this seemed like which is so petty and stupid if true.

I think the timing of this flub is far worse than the flub itself.
All of the greats have had a Botchamania moment so to speak, but when it comes during a worked shoot promo where you are trying to harness all the frustration of the past year from the pit of your soul, and you make a bad mistake like that, it could have changed the course of his career for the worst.
It's sad because the guy shouldn't be doing worked shoot promos, and instead should be wrecking people with sick uppercuts, giant swings, and insane power moves no one else can do, but that's the reality of the situation.

It's sad to think that he might have just "Matt Hardy'd" his career with this promo. He's way better than that.

This is the truth. I don't know what that was supposed to accomplish, whether Cesaro was out there adlibbing, whether those words were scripted for him, he was in a tough spot. I don't think the "four sides" slip was as bad as everyone says but the promo itself was pretty rough. When he talked about how it only matters what he did in the ring, then knelt down to rub the mat after, it didn't look smooth, it looked like it was written for him to do it and he almost forgot. But really even if he adlibbed it would be really tough to make much of a difference the way he's booked. If he cut the best promo of his life, then what? They just retcon the fact that he got killed in three minutes after? Not as though they're above that but that goes into a whole other host of problems in WWE right now. It wasn't a good performance from Cesaro but he didn't get over in the first place through promos.

I'm usually fine with flubbing a line, but there's flubbing, then there's outright saying something that is false. And then take into account this was a serious promo about how the office should take him seriously. That was almost Sid cringeworthy, and I say that as a fan of Cesaro. You can't make promo mistakes like that. Butchering a word is one thing, looking like a fool who can't count is another. Well-put. That was a total Sid moment. I laughed out loud, hard. I get messing up a line, but the nature of it and the timing were catastrophic (relatively). And what's worse, these days the commentary is brutal and will take any opportunity to make a joke at the expense of the talent. In a word, bury them. Cesaro was already buried in the booking, now JBL and King are gonna be honking away about his lack of counting skills, so they can get over how funny and valuable they are.

It would've worked if he took a second to own it, instead of just mumbling 4 sides. He could've said "okay, 3 ropes. look, I'm not here to count, I'm here to wrestle." Even now, maybe they could make this an endearing gimmick, where he cuts promos and he's really nailing it but then he f***s up an important line in the worst way. Charlie Brown kicking the football shit. And eventually, he nails the promo at the right time against the right guy, and the crowd explodes.

Am I the only one that enjoyed the promo for actually being a promo?

Forget the promo slip. He's human, it happens and honestly if they wouldn't script these guys to death he could have cut a much better promo.
The real issue is that despite them letting him rant about how he's not seen as somebody who can cut it in the main event, he was still booked to lose and put over a returning BMB in 3 minutes. He was booked to look like a fool, and booked to look like Vince McMahon's comments were 100% right.

Found this on twitter. Apparently this was a poll on the app. Such a weird poll in the sense that as a heel, he should be getting voted down (and is so far) in kayfabe, but even if any of the other three options were leading, would that even make a non-kayfabe difference to the decision makers? If WWE is doing something subtle with Cesaro to get him over (in their own weird ass-backwards way) it might be brilliant, but I can't help but doubt that that is the case.

It's funny because his promo proved Vince's point: his Swiss background prevents him from cutting a solid English promo when it truly counts.
This is what the whole "maximize your minutes" thing is about. You count on and expect somebody to hit a home run and they strike out.

Ziggler has cut more bad promos than I can count and was jobbing longer than Cesaro has been.
One day after a PPV they could just decide "Okay Cesaro is going to start winning again". Doesn't mean they WILL, but they've certainly done stuff like that about 100 times before.
It didn't help that commentary made about 10 jokes about his promo screwup during the match though, just to really drive it home in case you didn't care much otherwise.

I liked how he started off sitting down with his legs spread instead of Indian Style. Felt like the start of a Pipebomb to start a new era. Than he kept talking and it sucked. Then he lost so made the whole thing pointless.

He's a typical example of 'gimmick more over than the wrestler', it was the Real American's package that helped him, the theme music, the crowd participation, Zeb...a heel in a heel faction that people liked. Outside of that nobody's cared. They did try to an extent, they put him with Heyman but almost immediately the interest deflated.

Cesaro rocks. He'll be back. Mark my words, he'll be back baby! And by back I don't mean how he'll be on the show jobbing next week, we know that. There's still plenty of time for him to get a Ryback or Ziggler-esque comeback. If not as a babyface, as a more credible heel.

He has always gotten over anywhere because of his technical ability and his moveset, not his ability to cut a 20 minute promo.
Give him back the WHOLE face moveset again and we'll talk.

He was still over immediately after leaving the Real Americans. I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the Real Americans at mania and he got a huge pop when he picked up that big stinky giant over his head and threw him into the nosebleeds, brother. They should've kept him a natural face where people were cheering him because of his ability in the ring and how many times he could swing somebody, but instead they forced an awkward heel turn that really nobody was clamoring for.
