For reference- Not sickening because you know Randy is protecting her. You know Stephanie is better than half of the roster at taking bumps well and landed safe. You know it is itself a fairly safe, controlled move; She is controlling a lot of her own momentum. Um what? She takes RKO's and Pedigrees better than Big Show and Kane at least.

I don't care how safe or "simulated" it is. The bottom line is that you've got a man beating up a woman for the purpose of entertaining an audience. The message being communicated to the audience is that it's acceptable - even entertaining, under some circumstances, for a man to attack or be cruel to a woman.

Can you at least admit there are levels? Stephanie taking a fake/safe looking move like a Rock Bottom as opposed to being bashed over the head with a chair and slammed sloppily into a turnbuckle as hard as the guy can do it. If current unlikeable Stephanie can't get RKO'd can we at least get the divas to beat her up.

Drew needs to step away from the smartphone and stop tweeting. Because all he is doing is making it hard for the company and bringing out scuzzballs to defend him.

In this case, Randy was the heel for doing it. It wasn't 'entertainment' as such but was meant to be uncomfortable. Similar to when Big Show accidentally took out AJ or Austin took out Lita.

Yes, I'm not outraged by Stephanie taking the RKO because I know that everyone involved is working very safe. But, I'm not really even that outraged by Beyond Wrestling thing because it's a consensual act between two stupid individuals. What bothers me is that man on woman violence used to be something shameful and taboo, but rasslin' is now telling us that it's something we can justify.

If in-character heel Randy was bashing gays or throwing out racial slurs, people would be outraged and saying that he'd gone too far. I think that attacking a woman is at least as serious as those things, even if in character.

The fact that people will try to defend this garbage, and wrestling fans wonder why others look down on them as if they are sub human.
This is despicable and makes my stomach turn just watching it. And those who are defending who are "Wrestlers" will never amount to anything more than backyard feds.

I'm not going to defend this but how come people are so focused on "OMG IT'S A WOMAN!"
Unsafe work is unsafe work regardless of gender and these moves would be sickening even if it were a man yet I'm not so sure that this would be a big deal if it was indeed a man taking the moves. People are outraged simply because a woman is involved.

I gotta be honest, when I saw the title of the thread I fully expected to see something...much worse, like a guy being thrown into a garbage dump filled with glass and then the dump being lit on fire. This is one of those things that is completely unacceptable not because of its appearances but because of what we know about what unprotected head shots do. From what we know now, there should be no unprotected chairs shots to the head, I don't care if its in front of 10 people or 10 million people, it just shouldn't be something that's done anymore

A YouTube comment - 'That bitch got destroyed lol. She probably wants to f*** him now.' I devote much of my life to fighting misogyny and it's because of shit like that. That is far more messed up than the actual match itself. Yep, that was were my "I hate people" post is directed to. Not the match, but the Youtube comments...

When Triple H and Austin beatdown the Hardyz and Lita it wasn't much different. I think this PG era has softened people up.

Dude, when I saw Austin bash Lita 20 or so times with the chair, I was cringing the whole while with each time he hit her and seriously considering not watching after that. Call it Wimpification if you will or claim that people are P**** now, but that kind of stuff shouldn't fly anywhere.

You're exaggerating. I don't see anyone outraged. What I see are people discussing like mature adults. Not so much here but around the wrestling circles a lot of people are outraged because a woman is taking the move. That is the whole issue with unprotected chair shots, though: Only a true wrestling fan would know- or care enough to know- the difference between a protected and an unprotected chair shot. It's hard to really see just how sickening the display really was, because only the hardest of the hardcore wrestling fans are able to tell you just why it is so sickening to see it and just how bad it truly is...and when it's going to gender issues, it's harder to explain the difference even still. Just the question in this debate of "is it okay for Randy Orton to give Stephanie McMahon a protected finishing move, when both people are prepared for it, Orton is protecting Stephanie with his life, Stephanie knows exactly what to do on her part to make the move work, and it serves a purpose?" makes it so even saying "this was disgusting because, instead of using commonly known tricks to protect your opponent when you hit them with a steel chair so that it looks like you hurt them, but they really won't particularly feel a thing- Dickinson merely cracked Kimber Lee with the chair as hard as he could, to a part of the head which makes it very easy to get a concussion"- inevitably becomes "So, you'd be fine with this woman being hit with a steel chair by a guy- as long as she's hit a certain way?"
