I'm so glad that Cena is now fine with using terrorist tactics after getting all mad at Rollins for threatening to break Edge's neck back last year.
Obviously, you could make the argument that Rollins' threat was more severe but, in theory, it's the exact same idea. Cena held someone hostage and threatend serious harm until an outside party gave him what he wanted. What an asshole.

But if he didn't threaten to break that civilian neck in front of his interpreter, then he wouldn't get another opportunity to lose to him...or something.

Thing is Edge is retired due to injuries which pretty much puts the fight out of his hands. Plus Cena warned Rusev.

Cena should have never spinned with Wiz Khalifa.

I know there's a trend to ask "who the real face/heel is", but that was awful. Why in the name of f*** would anyone want Cena to win? He LOST. That's it. Rusev wants to fight someone else, Cena would be in that battle royal piece of shit if Steph hadn't told him no, so now you try and murder someone to get on the card?
Just..flat out abysmal booking, making me despise the super hero USA face. f*** that.

To play devil's advocate though, was there really any route they could have taken with this "convince Rusev to accept the match" angle that wouldn't have been annoying? Whether it's costing him the title before the PPV, calling him Commander Doodybottoms and giving him a photoshop assault, or beating the shit out of him this was never meant to be any fun.

Didn't Stephanie specifically say that it was up to RUSEV to give Cena a match? Since it was Lana, that means it shouldn't count, right?

Rusev made a couple of comments about America (which he does pretty much every week) and it caused Cena to go nuclear. His reaction was completely disproportional to what Rusev actually did. He went out there with a plan to fit his own selfish needs. If this was Austin, it'd be one thing. But, Cena is supposed to stand for all that is righteous and good. The fact that his morals are so loosely defined is ridiculous. If I warned you that I was gonna punch you in the mouth if you looked in my direction, it wouldn't make me any less of an asshole for hitting you. Because my reaction went too far. I did not use a reasonable amount of force for what the situation called for.

That's true but that begs the question. If this was the best payoff they could come up with, why even bother with the story?

I don't think he's just gonna keep asking nicely.

Cena always had a dangerous side where he does not care about his opponents. He has tried to kill ADR by crushing him in equipment and threw Batista off a car after the match was won and there was no reason to. Yet he can also calm quickly look at last week where he threaten to hurt Axel to the point where he could not walk and he calmed down quickly to where he just treated it like a normal match.

If this was going anywhere, it could be an interesting twist to Cena's character.
Since it's not, Cena's just a dick.

That's a better idea, but even that eventually leads to the eventual "seen it a thousand times" Cena triumph. We've been too conditioned not to buy into any stipulation laid down as it pertains around Cena. Cena being hard done by and then overcoming the odds is something we've had for ten years, even if the story was well told it's hard not to watch it and scream ENOUGH ALREADY.

I already figured the writers didn't watch the show. Now I wonder if the writers even talk to each other or just email rough outlines of the story up to this point.
Last year at Mania Cena's big angle was if he would lose his moral compass because of all that Bray was trying. This year ... F morals we need Bad Ass Amurica F YEAH!
