What was suppose to be Rey's triumphant return back to AAA has been a series of terrible events. I'm not saying someone put out a curse on him and AAA but this has got to be the worst week ever for a wrestling promotion. Hell, for any company not a dot.com, ENRON, S&L, or real estate. For Rey's sake, he might want to take an extended break from working in Mexico. Because as history has shown, hated luchadors tend to wind up dead.

Thankfully Rey could probably move to the United States pretty easily considering he's been working there for 19-20 years. Have him explain his story publically and just leave for a year in hopes people forgive him.

Some people are criticizing Konnan for shaking Aguayo, but I'm not going to pile on. I bet he thought Aguayo was just knocked out cold, not that he was dead/dying, hence the shaking. 99.9% of the time in that type of case, the guy is just knocked out, no different than a UFC guy getting knocked out. Shaking him wasn't the best thing to do, but it's an unprecedented situation. I won't pile on Konnan because I understand things being heat of the moment, but do realize that you should never shake someone who you think is knocked out, either. Like, ever. If something happened to knock them out, they likely have a concussion. Konnan knows this. Every decently-trained wrestler knows this. I would be surprised if he knew this. It's wrestling, not medical school. I think if you asked a wrestler about medical conditions that are caused by wrestling you'd probably get a lot of really bad info mixed with a ton of superstition.

It's wrestling, not medical school. Given the amount of injuries that do occur in wrestling, not medical school, I can guarantee you that most wrestlers who have ever made it to the "mainstream" have been trained/instructed on this. All the indie guys? Dunno, but Konnan - a 28 year veteran - definitely knows this. Wrestling, not medical school, has a lot of failsafes and precautions for this sort of situation. Am I blaming him? Not necessarily. It was heat of the moment, and he probably hadn't processed any of what had happened and wasn't thinking. It happens. Knowing something and following through on it in a moment like that are not always the same.

Apter's pissed (and rightfully so) about the media's blame game of Rey Mysterio

Wrestling has done a lot of things wrong in terms of safety. Just the fact it's only been less than ten years since they ended chair shots to the head should tell you the actual knowledge of the effects of wrestling on the body. He might know this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

Ugh... the mainstream news is so horrendous at reporting this. Hell, CNN even decided to showcase where Aguayo lost consciousness.
And, I may not have been a Rey Mysterio fan over the past 5 years, but dammit, these death threats are going too far!

This has me so bummed out. Perro ruled. He was such an obnoxious asshole, exactly what you wanted in a heel. I've been getting into lucha the past few years and he and the other Perros Del Mal were a huge part of it.

I just saw the video. It's awful.
As for Rey, I cannot imagine what he's feeling right now.

Seeing reports that Mysterio is now considering retiring. Not shocking considering the tremendous guilt he is currently feeling along with the death threats he is getting. I would say this will blow over eventually but like I said, Mexican fans tend to carry out their threats so wrestling in Mexico is out of the question. Konnan went through the same thing a couple of decades ago when heel ref Gran Davis died days after taking bumps from him in a match. People were claiming Konnan killed him but Gran Davis was already really ill and shouldn't been reffing due that. And the talk of the Mexico City athletic commission saying he was in good condition should be taken with a grain of salt. That commission been corrupted and scrutinized for its existence. They pass Super Porky and he's in terrible condition.

Damn. Three fractured vertrebrae. Definitely wasn't helped by Konnan shaking him like that. I can't imagine what he or Rey is feeling right now.

He's a guy that probably shouldn't be in the ring at all at this point, and yet he still is.

I think basically Perro was dead before Konnan did that. Probably that spot where his head hit the apron probably was where he fractured the vertebrate and only was able to get back in the ring based on pure adrenaline. Then once he hit the ropes, the adrenaline died and he went with it. Also thought I saw some blood coming from the eyes. Maybe that was a cut near the eye and not blood coming from the eye, but that looked so eerie, among everything else.

Seeing reports that Mysterio is now considering retiring. Not surprising at all. If it was me, even if I managed to get past the guilt about it, it would always be in the back of my mind whenever I was doing the same move (or any move that could hurt the neck), wondering if it could happen again.
