All I could think was "this shit wants to be Heat so bad." My friend thought the freeze frame ending was Miami Vice like so that was what I was thinking of, but Heat makes sense. Honestly, there are worse things than being Heat so I say be more Heat-like.

I knew that this season was never going to live up to the previous one, but my god it's been awful.

I swear, I must be the only person enjoying this season. Nope. I'm enjoying it. I like that it's different to the first season and as much as I loved it, I don't want to see the same thing only with different Actors in a different State.

I recommend rewatching the episodes. They're even better on a second viewing.

I'm digging this season.
Do I think it's as good as Season 1? So far, no. Did I want it to be Season 1 but this time in California? No.
I appreciate that it's different. And while I might have enjoyed Season 1 more that doesn't make Season 2 awful.

Not gonna lie, I've had the theme song stuck in my head, all week.

I.... don't know quite how to judge it yet (yeah, yeah I know Ray welcomes my judgment, just give me more time).
I'm coming in having no knowledge of the Yellow King arc, I'm just watching the new story on its own terms. The plot unfolding is interesting so far. The characters are mired in angst, and I get the whole "insecure manhood" element people mention when they discuss the show, especially Paul dealing with his sexuality and Ani fighting the patriarchy.
I'm really enjoying Vince Vaughn in this, words I never thought I'd say. Frank reminds me of what would have happened if Abel in A Most Violent Year (find this movie, watch it, prepare to be blown away) had given in completely to his gangster impulse. The impotence subplot keeps him interesting, but he's still a hateable villain.
On the other hand, it's really self serious to where I can't help but make jokes. The Leonard Cohen theme is nuts, it's like the show is walking into the room and it wants you to absolutely know how edgy and cool it is, dammit.

I'm enjoying this season too. Nowhere near as good as Season One. But Season One was f***ing phenomenal. This has been very good, and judging by that shootout at the end of the last episode shit is about to properly kick off.
P.S. Who knew Vince Vaughn could actually ever be good in anything, ever.

Next week's just gonna be awkward silence for the first ten minutes.
Frank: "....."
Ray: "....."
Frank: "..... so, Wedding Crashers. Ever seen it? Funny stuff, Ray. Real good."

Tonight's episode was just one amazing pile of garbage. Like "Jack gets a mysterious tattoo" episode of LOST terrible.

Only 3 episodes left this season when I don't even know what the plot is after the first 5. They were smart to air this during summer when nothing else is on.

I've read a bunch of reviews with critics arguing it's meant to feel like a novel unfolding on television. Did Nic try to cram as much crap into the Rust Cohle arc as he did here?

I really like it for what it's worth. The actors are working their asses off.

Tonight's episode was just one amazing pile of garbage. Like "Jack gets a mysterious tattoo" episode of LOST terrible. This whole season is garbage. I think the first season of True Detective was an idea that had formed over a long period of time, whereas this just seems thrown together and trite. I'm gonna see it through as there's only three episodes left, but I'm not going to be bothering with another season if they decide to make one.

This is an awful show with awful dialogue, awful pacing, failed cheap tension and great actors trying their hardest to make anything here remotely compelling.
I was withholding judgment until episode 5 becausr I wantes to give it a fair shake and see if there was going to be a worthwhile payoff, but no, f*** this wretched, worthless mess. This is late-season Dexter unwatchable. Just an irredeemable mess.
