I realize that season 1 was always going to be a hard act to follow considering the legendary performances that went into it but, that was still weak for a follow up.

I thought the acting was all really good but I never knew what was going on in the story most of the time, and I found season 1 pretty easy to follow.

stared off good after the first episode, setting things up nicely, and hey i was one that was praising it over the first season ..... then it started meandering BUT STILL ON TRACK ..... then the same problem that befell season 1 caved into it, because that end was only the end of velcoro and especially frank, and it just felt unfinished to me!
sure, the bad guys won, but with the evidence with ani and jordon gives to the journalist that leaves it far too open ended ..... maybe giving it ending that you KNOW will eventually come to them!
but that kind of ending is pretty weak .....
true detective is very dense an you need to concentrate on things, but it's also too damn QUIET for it's own good, with characters mumbling and whatnot
but gotta say the acting AND action is excellent, and was actually sad at the end
maybe it's just the way they want to represent the story .....

and since season 1 had this huge feeling of being "supernatural", season two felt like it was going to be the same, but that element never emerged which was a shame as it had HUGE potential to influence things

I hated this season. That is until the scenes of Semyon limping through the desert, bleeding profusely from a stab wound. Those scenes perfectly captured the feeling of watching this show. I see you, Nick Pizzolatto. Brilliant!

The finale was a bit of a mess. Not happy that Ani had been shown all season to be a bad-ass, yet was reduced to being a bit part for the final episode. Overall, a decent season with some truly great moments. It wasn't as good as the first season but still something I enjoyed. Just wish Fukunaga had Directed this one too.

Despite its flaws and not even touching the first season, it was still better than anything else, on TV. I was always engaged and I thought the good outweighed the bad.

This is exactly how I feel about it too. I also like that it ended on a downer. The open ended-ness of it is a bit lame, but overall, I was satisfied.

If anyone got screwed over it was Paul. I was hoping for him to make it to the finale and maybe get back with his former lover in the end, but god damn Lt. Burris.

My only big issue, this season, was Paul. A great character, and well acted, but added nothing to the plot.Frank was the only character that NEEDED to die. Paul should have lived and serviced the end game. I also thought Ray should have lived. Maybe he wouldn't get a happy ending, keep it bittersweet, but him dying felt cheap.

This shit was f***ing terrible, cmon now.
They only put thought into the last 5 minutes of each episode to get you back for the next one.
The alleged emotion and tension is supposed to come when we see loud arguments with people we've only seen once people or hear of the deaths of people we've only either gotten a slight glimpse of or heard mentioned casually.
Acting was great, but couldn't save that we really didn't get any character development as everyone had to keep regressing into a two-dimensional broken soul to keep the viewer wallowing in every tragedy that befell them, of which the visual cues and awful score had to make over the top obvious to the viewer.
Everything about this dumpster fire of a show was awful. Don't downplay this halfassed manipulative bullshit. It f***ing sucked and we all wasted 8 hours on it.

Of course it's forced, everything pretty much was. I still give the actors and Pizzolatto credit for their ambition, but it was definitely up its own ass.
