What happened to Labour? I thought this election was theirs to lose. And it looks like Ed Milliband may have lost it.

I still can't believe that exit poll! It's so wildly different to what the polls were suggesting earlier in the week. That's a hell of a result of the Conservatives if it's accurate.
also Nick Robinson needs some strepsils

Yeah, they would likely go to the DUP, as I dont think the LibDems, based on that poll, will allow Clegg to go back in to coalition, plus any UKIP votes will go Tory for most of the political votes in the Commons as the closest thing to them

Yougov poll looks more like what has been suggested all week, but also polls quite young and that can skew their figures as more older people vote than young

That one looks a lot more realistic to me.. can't see any coalition coming out of that though after Miliband rejected the possibility of working with the SNP

Considering about six months ago, there were some people predicting that UKIP would win a couple of dozen seats, that's a massive fall for them. It doesn't help that some of their members can't seem to help being filmed saying extremely offensive things.

They have a few policies that make some sense, especially the ones regarding health/benefit tourism, but yeah, they allow their representatives to be total racists and bigots, so as far as I am concerned, I'd love to see them get 0

For every even remotely sensible thing one of them says, there's another one saying how he'd put a bullet between the eyes of an Asian if he was elected.

I am a little confused, but if there is no majority is there a second election just to vote for the PM? What is more, is the UK a constitutional monarchy or does the queen have absolutely no authority in modern governance and is only a figurehead?

To be fair the exit polls aren't an exact science and they were terribly wrong with the Scottish referendum. I can imagine Labour getting 20 more seats from the Conservatives which would allow a LAB/SNP coalition.
Also RIP Nick Clegg's career, I'd be shocked if he kept his own seat let alone the leadership position. Same with Farage

What is more, is the UK a constitutional monarchy or does the queen have absolutely no authority in modern governance and is only a figurehead? The Queen is merely a figurehead. That's what a constitutional monarchy effectively is. If the exit poll from the BBC is true, there will be no need for a second election. The Tories/DUP can form a coalition and Cameron will be PM again.

What is more, is the UK a constitutional monarchy or does the queen have absolutely no authority in modern governance and is only a figurehead? If there is no majority, then David Cameron has options: i) He can form a minority government, but the first meeting of a new parliament could see everyone else vote against his government and that would dissolve the parliament and see a new election take place ii) He can seek a coalition, to take his seats + other parties seats to make a majority iii) He can do backroom deals with other parties to get their support without a formal coalition iv) He can resign If he chooses option iv, Milliband is invited to try and form a government. He can then try the above options. If, after that, no one is able to form a viable government, a new election will be called. The Queen is just a figurehead. She will approve the new government, but she has to do this regardless. She is not allowed to voice a political opinion and must do as she is told basically - although she can do things if she wants to, it would just cause a constitutional crisis and likely lead to a Republic and the Royals being ousted.

We Yankees tend to be a little isolated in our political realities to know if Cameron is doing a bang up job or if he is shitting the bed. Also, I know that the Queen isn't wasn't involved in daily governance. I was just asking if she had any reserve powers or any influence, outside of openly supporting her preferred candidates, on the selection of a PM when the Parliament is hung.
