Looks like you can actually sprint this time, a la Skyrim, unlike both 3 and New Vegas where you couldn't.
However, that said, it'd still be cool to have some kind of other transport system. Even if it's on rails (literally or figuratively).

Wow! I'm watching the recording of the stream and there's something I'm surprised no-one has mentioned yet: the character creation.
First, the characters now actually look human for a change. Now, since Skyrim actually had some pretty sweet-looking character models, I did have good hopes that it would be the case but, you know... Bethesda and all that.
Second, I'm actually very impressed with the animation of the facial expressions. They look very realistic and subtle without crossing into the uncanny valley.
And last but not least... the game starts before the bombs fall. I assume it's only for the tutorial part of the game but still, it's very interesting, knowing that your character was actually alive for the apocalypse, which of course begs the question of how are they still alive for the events of the game? I imagine there must be some kind of suspended animation going on.
I also wonder how it will affect the character through the game. It can't be good for your mental health when one minute you're chilling with your happy family without a care in the world and the next you're waking up in an irradiated post-apocalyptic wasteland populated with mutant creatures and insane raiders.

Mmm, it's a real future shock. I particularly like in the demo footage, as I and a lot of players I reckon would do, they go right over to their former home. Really brings the reality of how things have changed so quickly. All the previous Fallout leads, even if they were shut away in Vaults, had come to terms with what had happened in the world with the nuclear war even if they hadn't actually seen outside.
Popular theories for your character being alive are either they're an android, a clone or yup, Vault 111's 'thing' was some kind of cryosleep or suspended animation. All workable theories in the Fallout world.

Holy shit I just got to the part where they showcase the crafting system. When people said it was improved, I didn't imagine it was THAT improved! You can basically create your own town from scratch and get people to settle there, which is something I dreamt of doing in a Fallout game. I suspect there may be stuff like raider attacks and stuff like that you'll have to deal with. I honestly believe I might end up spending more time doing that than playing through the missions. I just wonder if you can build stuff anywhere or if there are specific locations where you're allowed to do it. Either way, when so many big-budget developers are content with just going through the motions, it's refreshing to see a company that really uses modern technology to its full potential to create new and exciting stuff. Edit: yup, he just confirmed raider attacks will happen.

Hurray! Yao Guais are back! I loved these motherf***ers and was a bit disappointed that they weren't in New Vegas.

They included Yao Guai in the Honest Hearts DLC, complete with a mission involving confronting one of them. Personally, the thing I didn't like about New Vegas was the lack of Floaters and Wanamingoes. I do hope for the Wild Wasteland trait, but Bethesda likes their games to be as serious as possible.

20 mins. If a game sucks after this period of time I have no time for it to be honest.
I want to have fun. Not walk around bored out of my brains.

It really is amazing how immersive the game looks. I especially love how things like Power Armor are treated as a special thing instead of just an extra durable suit you can wear.

Either way, when so many big-budget developers are content with just going through the motions, it's refreshing to see a company that really uses modern technology to its full potential to create new and exciting stuff. And to take the approach of "You know what our sequel needs? More complexity and more stuff!" instead of just streamlining. It's nice to see, particularly with this type of game, they've not been afraid to nerd it up some.

Oh man....finally watched the Bethesda conference. THAT is how you build hype for a game. I usually don't go in for gimmicks like that, but I might just have to argue/beg/disobey my wife and get the Pip Boy edition (and steal my wife's iPhone since it will almost certainly won't appear on my Windows phone)
Anyone play Fallout Shelter yet?

Fallout Shelter is ok. It isn't super engaging per se, but it's fine. The exploring journals are probably the most interesting thing so far into it. Also, the game doesn't explain a ton of how things work exactly, so you kind of have to figure that out on your own.

One thing I'm really curious to see is how the companions work (other than the dog, who I suspect will be a special case). I've been playing New Vegas again lately (not to mention I found a mod that actually makes the characters look really nice while staying true to the visual style of the game) and it reminded me of how disappointing it could be compared to the first two games.
New Vegas was a little bit of a step up compared to 3 but still, only being allowed one humanoid and one animal/robot companion at a time was a bit lame to me and what is especially frustrating is that you can really interact with them as much you'd like (not being able to use health items other than stimpacks on them being particularly annoying) but since the E3 footage showed that you can tell the dog to go to specific places by pointing at them, I'm hoping there's a similar system for the rest of the companions and for example, you can tell them to go repair a specific item, pick a door's lock, hack a computer, etc. Also, I really hope you can give them instructions like in the old-school games so, for example, they avoid walking right in your line of fire or worse, don't start shooting the enemy when you're right in front of them or chugging dynamite at your feet, isn't that right, Veronica, you power fist-wearing maniac what is wrong you?!!
Also, since you can tell the dog to go to a specific spot and fetch something for you, I wonder if there will be some places where there's stuff you can't access yourself and have to tell your dog to go get it (otherwise it's just kind of a pointless gimmick, isn't it?).

I know the companions cannot be killed in this new game, just rendered unconscious. The reasoning was that they felt it would speed things up as most people tended to just reload if their companion got killed anyway, and I guess would encourage risky play rather than being scared of a companion going down all the time. I wouldn't be surprise at all, though, if some official or unofficial mod mode would change that.
That's the really good thing about the 'mods for consoles' deal - if there's something Bethesda don't have in the game that I'd really like (FNV's Hardcore mode, for one) then in time there will be a version from someone anyway now.
I barely ever used companions in F3 but did a fair amount more in FNV. Still, the majority of time I preferred playing it alone. I enjoyed both the games a ton in slightly different ways - F3 for the real isolated, decaying wasteland feel and FNV for the spiritual bleakness of the desert yet flashy horizon of The Strip.

The last thing I needed off my list in order to embrace the new game wholeheartedly; the guy who did my two favorite installments of Fallout giving a thumbs-up to the new project.

The biggest and best thing is the unofficial patches fixing the console versions. Console versions of Bethesda games might not be as good, but they'll still be totally playable. It's a win-win for everyone.
