I know the companions cannot be killed in this new game, just rendered unconscious. The reasoning was that they felt it would speed things up as most people tended to just reload if their companion got killed anyway, and I guess would encourage risky play rather than being scared of a companion going down all the time. I wouldn't be surprise at all, though, if some official or unofficial mod mode would change that. Are you 100% sure about that? 'cuz I was hoping they could at least be killed in harder difficulty modes or in some sort of special mode like the Hardcore one from New Vegas. Seems a bit cheap that they can't be killed at all; I get their reasoning, especially the reloading stuff, but I think the option should still be there for those who want it.

Like, I can understand not wanting to lose companions due to stupid little things (Like Veronica's land mine magnetism), but having them die after epic battles can be pretty neat. I remember, Boone was my companion for ages in New Vegas, and we fought our way through Caesar's camp, with him delivering the killing shot to Caesar himself, only to bleed out after we'd cleared the rest of the dudes in the tent. Took his beret & his rifle, used them to avenge him for a long time.

At the moment, that is the statement they've made. Todd Howard specifically.
But, doesn't mean it'll always be that way of course. Worse case scenario, someone will still make a mod for it down the line.

I've been thinking about it recently and, you know how in the pre-war segment, we are shown that the player character has a baby? Does anyone feel like he or she might become relevant later? I've been considering it because during the E3 presentation, the lead developer explained that they actually scripted it so the baby's appearance changes depending on how you redesign your character and his/her spouse, and it seems like a lot of work for a tiny detail if it's just for that short segment.
So do you think maybe the player character actually ISN'T the sole survivor of his or her vault? Perhaps we'll get to see a grown-up version of the child.

Welp, I have finally decided to pre-order it. I almost never do that but since I recently got a job and I know a site that sells discount Steam keys, I felt it was worth it. I even considered pre-ordering the season pass as well but considering they haven't given any detail as to what the DLC will be and most of the New Vegas DLC was only just okay to me (the best stuff IMO was the Gun Runners content), I'd rather not shell another 22 euros for something that I can't be sure will be worth it.
Besides, we all know that there will quickly be fan-made quests that will be infinitely better than any DLC (not to mention Bethesda has said they're going to release a mod tool for free, making it even easier) so if I want extra stuff, I'll just download that.
