As an on-screen character I've always hated him, and never in the "heel" way I'm supposed to.

This guy and the way the main roster has been since Orton cashed in on Bryan make me truely baffled why people love the "heel chase" trope.
It is so boring. Give me a long babyface run or something. I am sick of the heel on top.

Tea is special on WEDNESDAY NIGHT I'll admit, I'm surprised there are people who voted for 98/99 HHH. Wasn't he pretty much an IWC darling pre-ME push? He was in 2000 and 2001 too. It was 2002 that turned people against him. For the record I don't remember ever being dead against him honestly.

1997-1998. His DX frat boy character is the most annoying character in wrestling history (only Syxx is even in the ballpark). He reminds me of Wayne Arnold from the Wonder Years. Just an annoying f*** with almost no redeeming qualities. Made worse by the fact that that's probably very similar to how he was in real life at the time. And he never got his comeuppance...basically ever. He just evolved into a new character and actually started winning more. And now he owns the whole company. f*** that guy. I see your point.

1996. I never liked him, from the first moment I saw him as the blue blood character. He just seemed like such an ass, and not because the gimmick was designed for him to be supercilious and arrogant. Then, he's just gotten worse and worse, as the years have gone on. I loathed his DX persona, but even then he was less awful than HBK was.
Every iteration of him has somehow been worse than the last, it seems. More unbearably smug and obnoxious, by the year. I don't mind his offscreen personality at all, but whenever he's in the ring, I cannot abide him.

2013. Well, the first half of the year anyway.
He spends the first three or four months of the year making Brock Lesnar into his personal whipping boy at just about every turn. He beats him clean at WrestleMania, then "gives back" the loss in a steel cage match in which Lesnar needed interference and cheap shots to put him away. Then, he completely buries Curtis Axel within about five minutes of Axel's rebranding as a "Paul Heyman guy". I know, it's just Curtis Axel, but Heyman was red hot at the time, having just managed Lesnar and CM Punk and it seemed like everything he touched turned to gold. Axel had a chance for a few minutes, but then The Game shows up, slaps him in the face, knocks him to the ground, then beats him from pillar to post in the main event, until...
That god-awful, go-nowhere concussion angle that was a means to garner Triple H the most possible sympathy and to decide who loves Triple H more: the fans or Vince and Stephanie McMahon. He then interjects himself into the main event at SummerSlam as special guest referree for (what seemed to be) positively no reason. Pretty much up until he hit the Pedigree on Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam and turned heel, his 2013 character, and in-ring work, was among the worst of his career.

Watching Martha Hart verbally ream Hunter a new one is legitimately one of the most compelling exchanges ever recorded. Just...man, she flat-out emasculated him and told him she was doing it. Much respect to her.
The Booker T. and Punk burials were unforgivable, as was the ridiculous notion he was Brock's equal (not in his wildest dreams). I'll only vote 2011 over 2003 with the caveat that he killed the direction of the company and Punk's push while still a part-time only performer. Wait, wah? I might have the wrong name, but it was Bret's (now ex) wife after the MSJ in Wrestling With Shadows. She flat-out called him out on him knowing, he denied it (couldn't even return eye contact), she responds by saying they're all just going to go laugh it all up over beers when he and the boys leave the arena. She called it. Every last detail was exactly as she felt it was, it turned out he did know about it, and sure enough, they came out the next day on Raw and they buried Bret with the midget as Hunter buried Bret with his worked shoot comments ("short on charisma, short on talent," etc). It was seriously riveting to watch her just tear him down and *know* she was in the right the whole time.

Looking at the stats, here's the actually victims list per year after 1999 and he became a main eventer.
2000: Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle 2001: Not that I can think of. He was feuding with Austin, then Benoit and Jericho. 2002: Bubba Ray Dudley, Rob Van Dam, Kane 2003: Scott Steiner, Booker T, Kevin Nash, Bill Goldberg 2004: Eugene, Randy Orton 2005: He was a team player for the most part putting over Batista and just feuding with Flair. 2006: Umaga, and Rated RKO 2007: Booker T, Randy Orton 2008: Jeff Hardy 2009: No one I can think of 2010: Sheamus. Don't was going behind the scenes, job to the guy. 2011: CM Punk 2012: No one I can think of. 2013: Brock Lesnar. 2014: Was a team player putting over Bryan and The Shield. 2015: Sting

Why is it hard to believe that someone could not like a man who is as goddamn irritating as HHH? I have never been a fan of him, but me not enjoying him didn't become a big deal until he was a primary focus of the shows in 1999. And when that happened I more/less trailed off from watching wrestling because the idea of him as a main star was an absolute joke and a waste of my time.

Oct 2002: Oh ok, I like RVD, but getting flattened by HHH is surely a build up to RVD getting the title soon, right? Nov 2002: They gave the belt to a guy who retired 4 years ago? The hell? Dec 2002: HHH WON THE BELT BACK? *smashes TV*
Seriously. I'm not a vindictive person but part of me celebrated around 2010 ish when I found out HHH got hurt by RVD in the first Elimination Chamber. That was karma's way of saying you should have given him his f***ing win back.

2006 is pretty bad for a simple reason.
Why did HHH insert himself into a feud with Cena at Wrestlemania 22? And he was trying to be a cool heel as well.
Edge winning the title at the New Year's Resolution and holding onto to it until a Wrestlemania re-match would've been better.
Edge vs. John Cena Triple H vs. Mick Foley
Would've been better than what we got in terms of matches making sense.

Judging by the look of HHH at the time, this would be COO in 2011, wasn't this around the time Ryder was breaking out and going for the US Title? Why bury him for nothing? This just makes 2011 HHH just intolerable. Notice the crowd didn't pop at all? Seems they were on Ryder's side too.

It was a non-televised segment, so the majority of viewers would have never even seen it. Also, it was the night that most of the roster walked out on him ("No confidence"), so he probably would have been a little steamed at ANYONE that had come back out at that point. Ryder just happened to be that guy. (Makes the whole Authority thing interesting in hindsight. He plays nice, but the roster gives up on him just because Miz and R-Truth are causing trouble... Part of me doesn't really blame him for going corrupt in a "You think I'm bad now? Oh, we just getting started..." kind of sense)

This Authority fore-shadowing was there. Man, do I wish Sheamus, Cena and Punk formed a new Authority. Sheamus wins both mid-card titles, Cena is the WWE Champion, Punk is the World Champion. Sheamus/Cena/Punk vs. The Shield would be a blast.

The Reign of Terror, easy. Tapping out to Voldemort and then jobbing his heart out to Batista finally eased up on things for me, because man (after an outstanding 2000) did I hate Hunter around that time.
Out of shape, terrible matches, burials for all, droning promos. It was the perfect storm of all of HHH's worst stuff.
