I hadn't played for a while and I was waiting to upgrade to a better computer to restart playing and now I'm in the Dunwich Borers and it suddenly got real weird as I opened a door and some kind of flash occurred, I looked backwards and it looked like the path behind was suddenly blocked, but then another flash occurred and it was back to normal. Really wasn't expecting that, especially since I figured the raiders and ghouls would be the main threat there.

Finally finished it!
...yeah, I kinda like to take my time with games like these. I know it was over 350 hours in total. But I had a lot of fun with things and I still want to go and polish some things off yet (including seeing the other endings as well). Played the whole thing on Hard, first time doing that and it certainly was difficult for a lot of the early game, but after a while I got powerful enough to cope easily.
After that I'll put it to bed for a while, catch up on other things and then come back when most of the DLC is out and patched, maybe around Christmas. Looking forward to that then.
Overall, I feel it was a firm step ahead of Fallout 3 and about the same level as Fallout New Vegas. FNV did some stuff better, F4 did some others better. I think the eventual DLC and mods will have a big effect on things ultimately.

Finally finished!
450 hours, never made it to Diamond City, sided with the Atom Cats in the end. Best companion by far was Bruce.
I went with a really crazy play style of wandering around, killing raiders and looting stuff. I know right!?!
I don't know about you guys, but did anyone else start the game in the past, get frozen in a vault, then thawed out? Wild stuff!! I walked around in the vault for a bit, then had to fight giant roaches!!! Luckily the Overseer left his computer on so I could escape!!!! Thank god I found a Pip Boy so I could open the vault door!!!!!!! Anyone else take the elevator to the surface? INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, today, while I was exploring, I found two weird things: First, in front of a building (the Boston Bugle thing IIRC), I noticed this manhole/plaque thing. It's got the number 3 painted on it and an arrow pointing at the letter "I", which is in brackets. I imagine it's a clue to something, but I have to figure out what. Not far from there, I also found several corpses, which all had this on them: Again, no idea what this is, presumably an NPC to be found. No idea if the two things are linked, which seems highly plausible considering they were close to one-another and both include red paint or blood smears. Since the three corpses were in a close area, I actually thought I fell for a trap for a second but no, nothing and no-one seemed to be around. Now I'm curious if the dead guys killed one-another of if this Pickman guy killed them. There was also a group of Super Mutants nearby, no idea if they were related to this or not.

The latter is a side-quest, I believe Hancock sends you on it? The former is related to the Freedom Trail IIRC.

Yeah, the former took me aaaages to work out, yet seemed simple when I did. It's not linked to the latter.
For the latter, it's a side quest and I believe you can just do it yourself rather than it being given to you. Although you can talk to Hancock about it later.
Don't wanna give away too many details in case you'd rather find out yourself!

Is it wrong I started a war because I wanted to wear a jacket?
I'm about 200 hours in, on great terms with the Brotherhood and Minutemen, decided I really wanted Maxson's jacket and there's no way to get it without killing him... now I have new enemies but I look fly.
Tried to complete the anti-Brotherhood missions, but it glitched out at the end as I can't talk to one of the characters without her wanting to trade with me... f***. I can't complete this damn mission. f***.
... but at least I look fly.

Now begins my very delicate dance to keep all three non-Institute factions alive.

Reminds me of in Oblivion, I tried to pickpocket an NPC, turned out she had hundreds of every type of arrow in her inventory, but I wouldn't be able to steal them all. So I killed her, her friends and most of the patrons of the inn she was in. Was worth it though, never wanted for Arrows again, and it turned out one of her friends was carrying some Daedric armour, but not wearing it. Also, is anybody else unable to have Preston as a companion? He just goes "Hello General" or gives me a quest. Which is a shame, because I was gonna steal his coat and put some ballistic fibre on it so I could have a sweet jacket.

After about 40 hours of gameplay I just stopped playing. I'm at a big moment in the game and I'm just not interested. I'm somehow the leader of the institute yet both the railroad and brotherhood trust me to their ends. I spend time dedicated to the main story and next thing I know the settlements I helped build are deteriorating from neglect. How useless are the people in this game? Ahhh you're where I was earlier this week. I just went Brotherhood and said F it. There's a playthrough that can be done to keep all alliances, so i'm gonna do that.

Okay, so through sneakily listening to enemies idle chatter, I keep hearing stories about this guy using rocks for imaginary grenades, and riding around in the wasteland on an imaginary motorcyle. My question is, does this dude actually exist in-game, and if so, where can I find him?

My question is, does this dude actually exist in-game, and if so, where can I find him? I don't think you ever meet him. There are 3 or 4 stories about him. Hardware town, downtown Boston and a random Rust Devil encounter are the ones I've heard. They all end with "How does someone like that survive out here?" which is hilarious as all the story tellers have just let him escape.

Holy crap, the new and improved survival mode just kicked in and I'm lost and confused. Don't get me wrong, it actually a lot of stuff I wanted to see as it pretty much just like the Hardcore mode from New Vegas now, with some new stuff added like no fast travel and penalty for overencumberance, to the point it's basically a death sentence on the long run (you gradually lose health so unless you find a steady, constant supply of healing items you'll die fairly quickly) so you pretty much have to limit yourself, especially now that ammo has weight. It's just that it was one hell of a surprise when I loaded my game today.

So I actually decided to straight-up start a new game because the new survival elements make the game so different (and in my opinion, for the better) and I felt the way I played the game up to that point was not appropriate for it at all. For starters, the amount of items I can carry has been almost halved and I couldn't figure out what to remove from my inventory as I would have had to get rid of most of my weapons and ammo plus a good chuck of my aid. Plus I have a bunch of mods I wanted to try but didn't feel like using in my current game.
Make no mistake, the new survival mode is not just a difficulty setting, it's for those who really want a more realistic and immersive experience. There are many gameplay changes that are made to force the player to deal with the consequences of their actions, like removing quick/manual saving and replacing it with saving by using beds, so you can't just save before trying to pickpocket a heavily-armed NPC "to see what happens".
I also noticed a few details like some food items now don't recover HP any more and are therefore solely for satiating hunger, although it seems some do gain healing properties after you've cooked them.

"Please, bring my daughter home." I did...like eight years ago. I killed Tobar and she took over his ferry.
