www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/35723676It turns out that the timing system and graphics can be sorted in time, so the new F1 qualifying rules will be in place for the opening race in 2 weeks.

...Yeah, after that latest radio com from Austin Dillon, he's really not doing much to help his petulant whiny brat image problem. Especially the way his crew chief or spotter (missed who it was) pretty much had to remind him it's a team effort.

Penske took the top four spots for St. Pete with Power on the pole. Chevrolet has the top five spots and six of the top ten. Hunter-Reay is the top Honda in 6th. Chilton is the top rookie qualifier in 17th.

Something that's impressing me in the wrong way from Indycar so far is how utterly bland Verizon's new aesthetic is. It's got a vaguely European look to it that just sort of misses the mark, and the fact that there's only one version of the series logo makes it look shit on the nose of the cars. It's a very tired joke by now, but Verizon's new look is almost literally 50 shades of gray.
The new Penskes look very nice though, and I for one like that there will be at least one pair of cars with the same livery. Penske's pretty much the last vestige of that since we're down to one Target car.

Don't know why they needed a new one, and their old one was better, but hey they're still spending money on IndyCar so it's all good to me. Foyt runs the same livery on both of his cars too. Looks like some of the other teams are trying some new things with how their cars look, which is nice to see.

The logo itself isn't bad, it's just sort of the rest of the presentation that's remarkably bland. And totally forgot about Foyt, if anything because I'm used to his second car being a part-time. Andretti is running the same template with different colors this year, ditto Dale Coyne, so at least there's more attempts at team cohesiveness. The peak for matching team liveries I want to say would've been CART circa 1997-1998. Off the top of my head, you would've had: 2 x Target (Ganassi) 2 x Kool (Team Kool Green) 2 x Marlboro (Penske) 2 x Players (Players Forsythe) 2 x Castrol (All American Racing) 2 x Brahma Beer (Patrick Racing) 2 x Kmart/Texaco (Newman-Haas Racing)

(I was always down for the red/green Tecate scheme for Fernandez, myself)

(I was always down for the red/green Tecate scheme for Fernandez, myself) Yeah, upon double-checking, Patrick Racing was only matching for 1997, and Newman/Haas was Texaco/Budweiser for 1997 but went one car with Texaco/one car with Kmart for 1998 on. Also PacWest was another team with separate sponsors but fairly matching paint schemes. Also, Players and Kool were one-car teams in 1997 which I think is very easy to forget (though IIRC Players and Green used to be the same team but split at some point around 1996, so it makes sense). Speaking of Team Kool Green, I keep seeing Pagenaud's car race by and keep thinking it's one of the Kool cars. Something about the placement of white and green plus the lighting today, even though I know it's actually more of a seafoam green.

Forsythe/Green were one team in 1994 for Jacques Villeneuve's rookie season, then split up from the 1995 season with Green taking the driver and Players sponsorship to win the championship, leaving Forsythe with a midfield car that year for Teo Fabi. It all got very confusing through the whole field, because you'd have drivers change teams all over the place but stay in the same sponsored car for the most part. My example of Adrian Fernandez went from Galles to Tasman to Patrick without so much as a different shade of green on his car that whole time.

Great drive from Montoya to win at St. Pete.
Impressed with Conor Daly. I know he got into the front of the field with some pit strategy but he looked good while he was up there. Shame it fell apart near the end.
Stupid accidents today.
Nice to see Mikhail Aleshin pop in to the top-five.

Mah boy JPM won his second straight GP of St. Pete and did so with a steering issue the last 20 laps or so. His revenge tour is off to a great start.
