You know who the perfect comparison is? Shelton Benjamin. Atheletic, jacked guy who is a black hole of charisma. Excellent comparison, Shelton. Yeah, my boss calls me Shelton all the time. But that's ok, he's the boss. Anyway I'm really enjoying what everyone is saying about me. You guys are fantastic!

Why does my mind keep seeing the thread title and tacking on, "But he ain't got no cuts!"

Except while Apollo Crews is smiling like a 5 year old who's mother is making mac and cheese with chicken fingers for dinner, Vader was going around roughing people up, potatoing guys and looking like a beast.
In ring style is one thing, how you r character acts is another

If nothing else, this thread and WWE forums lately in another thread or two has inspired me to consider how much potential a comparisons thread that tries to equal the inaccuracy of this one would have.
"You know, the Doberman Pinscher is really just the emerald of the Atlantic."
"I love how the Battle of Yorktown basically stole the ending to the final episode of WKRP in Cincinnati."
"I got one of those pieces of furniture from IKEA that sounds exactly like grilled cheese with marshmallow topping when you sit on it."

With all due respect "more athletic Vader" is the worst description of Crews I will ever hear. What about "a happier Raven"?

I think he needs to take the Rock's advice:
Yes, you can smile too much.

I don't like Apollo so far. Zero personality/charachter. Another problem is that his style makes him seem smaller than he is, when he is a big hoss in reality. He needs to cut the flippy stuff out. It makes the other big guys look bad and the small guys look bad. He's bigger than the small guys but he's still smaller than the other big guys. If he cuts the flippy stuff, then it makes him look like just another big guy who has nothing going for him except being big, yet he also isn't as big as the other big guys.

He just says shit like this and everybody just stares at him in complete confusion while he stands there with a satisfied grin on his face.

Size in Wrestling is mostly all about attitude. I buy Rusev as a Hoss even though he isn't huge. Why? Cos he acts huge. If Apollo acts like a cruiserweight he will come across like a cruiserweight.

Sucks he couldn't keep his indie name because of Cena because the potential for a "Uhaa Nation" gimmick has some legs to it.
He's taylormade for the New Day, but in terms of creating a gimmick or character for him, the only thing I can think of is doing a Narcissist-type gimmick as a heel or have him bodyguard for a heel (like his trainer did) then turn face.
As a face? I dunno - WWE sucks so bad at faces I don't even know what would work there for anyone, let alone Crews.

I don't think it has anything to do with Cena and everything to do with WWE's general policy of wanting to own copyrights. I mean they're still using Apollo Nation on his shirts He's bigger than the small guys but he's still smaller than the other big guys. Attitude definitely helps, I remember when his vignettes started airing in NXT I had never seen him wrestle before but the way the vignettes were shot and how he carried himself he came off like a damned star. I don't know what exactly changed between that and now... but something definitely did.

I was alright with him in NXT because he had a nice humble personality and he came off like a real person in interviews, but even then he was sort of on the cusp of getting the Roman Reigns treatment for moving too far up the card without really being all that interesting. WWE especially isn't an environment for people to thrive on being humble and realistic, instead he smiles like Lenny after plastic surgery and gets beat up all the time.

I mean they're still using Apollo Nation on his shirts I just meant that they already had a longstanding "nation" gimmick with Cena's Cenation and to bring in another guy with a name so close to it wouldn't be smart. I'm not blaming Cena or anything, just them being smart about branding and name confusion on their shows.

I meant specifically his intro vignettes.

But Rusev's ACTUAL size is STILL bigger than Crews. ln terms of actual height and weight, Crews is less of a hoss and more the same as your typical mid-sized heavyweights like John Cena, Randy Orton, Del Rio, Alex Riley, Billy Gunn, Edge, The Rock and even Roman Reigns for all the criticisms of his ring skills; guys in that size range generally put more "athletic" moves in their repertoire because they're too "small" to be pure powerhouse destroyers. Crews looks bigger mostly because the majority of the roster is smaller; even a good chunk of heavyweights are only barely above cruiserweight status. Take Apollo's flips away, then he just looks like he brings nothing to the table except size and he'd be subjected to more "LOL Vince is gay for big muscles" jokes.
