The United States presidential election is here, and we are once again allowing a thread for everyone to discuss the occasion. Please note that this has been a very contentious campaign season and moderators even considered breaking from tradition and not allowing a thread at all. In the end, it seems necessary to provide an outlet for members to discuss the election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump – two individuals who have been very controversial in recent months
Keep in mind that outside of our normal stance against political discussion, all rules must be followed if you expect this thread to remain open. It’s on tap to be available from 8 a.m. Tuesday EST to 8 p.m. Wednesday EST, but we reserve the right to shut it down sooner if necessary.
We will have a zero tolerance policy on flaming. Feel free to express your personal political views and acknowledge who got your vote, but do not think for a second that you can get on a soapbox, rant and criticize others for not falling into your line of thinking. Furthermore, we are not allowing negative comments – specific or blanket statements - about voters or demographics. Nor are you allowed to post memes or images outside of demographic voting maps or state breakdowns. As controversial as Hillary and Trump have become, do not take it upon yourself to blast any of their respective followers who may be on this board or elsewhere. Just stick to the facts.
Mods will be keeping a very close eye on this board over the next 36 hours. Do not let us catch any of you breaking rules. Anyone who commits any of the violations mentioned in this post will be suspended for 24 hours. No questions asked.
This is your only warning.

We got a new governor being elected tonight as a result of Mike Pence being Trump's vice president nominee.

I do not envy the mods, but appreciate that this outlet is here.
The presidential election has kind of soured me on both candidates. I see myself voting on down ballot measures, mostly.

This presidential election is like someone telling you to choose one and offering you a bowl full of yellow Starbursts. It also tempts you to think less of your friends and family who love yellow Starbursts.

Yes!!! No more "may I ask you a few questions." Phone calls! At least until next Monday, when the 2020 presidential election campaign begins. Seriously, this campaign has felt longer than both of Obama's terms combined, and I don't even live in the USA. I can't imagine how sick of it you guys must be.

I'm still hoping they find a loophole, and Obama is allowed to be President longer till we find better candidates.

Y'know what I'm not going to miss? Trying to watch The Flash on the CW app and seeing three Hillary Clinton ads in a row. I understand what they're going for, but come on.

No, everyone will likely wait until after the midterm elections in 2018.

I'm voting for Clinton. She isn't without faults, but it's an easy choice for me.
I'm not going to miss seeing any of these f***ing campaign ads, that's for sure.

I'm not American nor do I live in America so I get no say in the matter.
All I will say is please remember whoever you stick in that White House affects the rest of the world to, not just America.
Please make the right choice....if there is one.

This should be fun to watch In regards to the election I ended up doing a write in for Bernie Sanders because f*** it, I voted for him in the Nevada caucus so I was going to stick with him till the end. Even with Mackenzie Gorn telling me for months it was a waste if a vote.

They usually start making runblings a few days after the presidential election.
Nothing is likely to gain traction until the midterms but they will start posturing and dropping hints.
Also the "their both exactly the same!" rhetoric is an unbelievably gross misinformation of the facts.
But if you are 100% behind a third choice... don't just vote for a third party candidate for President and then disappear for four years.
Vote third party on the down ticket races and at the midterms as well. It's how the Republicans became the second party in this country overtaking the Whigs.

This is the first election since I reached legal voting age that I actually don't want to vote. I don't want to vote Trump, I don't want to vote Hillary, I kind of want to vote Johnson, but I'm not even convinced of that. Hell, I'll probably just write in Magic knows Black Lives Matter.

I feel comfortable saying this is THE worst election cycle I have ever personally seen, and probably only second to either the time John Quincy Adams won for everything that went down with that, or when Andrew Jackson won, whichever election basically killed his wife. That was one of the low points of American political ethics.
I will rest much easier when this is all over and done with. I've been sleeping worse than usual and I'd like to not open fivethirtyeight like 400 times a day anymore.

En route to polling place now, casting my vote for Dr. Jill Stein and Mr. Ajamu Baraka for the offices of President and Vice President respectively.
Down ballot, likely going as Independent as possible in TN.
Edit: damned phone...
