Equal as in they both started as bland ass babyfaces no one cared about?
Like...maybe he was equal to Billy Gunn. As over as the worst member of the company's top group can get, but then Billy did have a career after DX ended.

He's right, in that they were both in the same line of entertainment work, are men, live in the United States and are Earthlings And they both breathe air, eat food and drink water. There are things that make Buff and Rock equal, just not the ones Buff envisions.

He compared himself to The Rock; this isn't a discussion if he was over or not; it's that he compared himself to the f***ing Rock.

The Rock who wasn't over at all in the beginning of his WWF run and became an over midcard act in a threadbare company as part of a faction of jobbers and misfit toys at a time they were still losing the ratings war. They were, for a time, on the same level in terms of stardom, while the Rock went on to greater things, that doesn't change the fact that it happened. I can't stand Buff, I hated him, his sloppy ringwork and painted on hair, but let's not kid ourselves Buff was a Horace/Stevie Ray/Crush level NWO member, guy was over and on the tier below Hogan and the Outsiders in that faction at a time it was still relatively fresh and interesting.

To me, it's like when an athlete says they were the best in a position when they're clearly not. Yeah, it may be a sign of an ego, but I don't rally have a problem with it because to be successful you have to have a bit of one. That's part of the game.
That and it was hard not to be over in that era if you made it to WCW or WWE. Fans were super hot at that time.

Did The Rock have his own credit card? I think not! Case closed.

Okay, if Buff is saying that at the peak of his popularity(NWO Buff) he was equal to The Rock's lowest(babyface Maivia), if that is the criteria and time frame given...then yes 100%. Anything past Rock's heel turn is a big nooooooope though.

He means Don Muraco or Ole Anderson, right? Not Dwanye "The Rock" Johnson? Because he was nowhere in the same plane as Johnson yet alone Muraco and Anderson. Eh, Muraco was actually kinda over because he had the Superstar with him. Yeah, probably better than Ole. No way. People actually bought tickets to see Ole get his ass kicked during his career.

I am guessing you haver never seen footage of Don Muraco or Ole Anderson in there prime I'm talking about when they received the nickname "The Rock", late-1986/early-1987, not their entire career. You can make an honest to goodness case when Buff was at his peak, he was bigger than Ole Anderson circa 1987. Ole had the name well before '87.

The time frame he gave in the interview, for those who didn't see it, was at his 9-year mark, or right before he broke his neck, which was early 1998. He said he was on par with Rock and then said Rock and Stone Cold were on a level playing field at that time.
At this point in time...
- Rock was in the Nation feuding with DX. This was just before he became People's Champion Rock - The Austin-Vince feud was just kicking off, with the Austin-Michael WM match having occurred the month prior. - Bagwell had been in the NWO for a few years

Did The Rock have his own credit card? I think not! Case closed. Would Buff even get approved for a Buff Bagwell WCW Credit Card?

He was easily one of the most over heels on the roster already, just on the merit on his Shamrock feud, being the foil of Austin forfeiting and dumping the IC title in a river, and his coup d'etat of the Nation. Even in early 98, there's nothing in Bagwell's career that can touch any of that. Would Bagwell have been the final guy eliminated in the 98 Royal Rumble? Not a chance.

To be fair, in 1993, I was equal to the Rock. Neither of us was on TV.

just putting this out there; Buff Bagwell doesn't even have his own page on TVTropes, and those people like everything.

This got nothing to do with this story but here's a recent picture of Buff Bagwell. Clearly the greatest photo in the history of our sport!
