I should host the Oscars. My monologue will consist entirely of listing all the stars who have worked with or publically supported Roman Polanski since 1977. Has Polanski actually taken ANY blowback in this? You'd think after Harvey he'd be the second one with his head on a spike. Nope. I cringe when I watch actors/actresses applaud him. f***ing Hollywood.

I get that he makes fantastic movies and might have gotten a raw deal on a plea bargain (and frankly would have been long since out of prison had he just stayed), but I'll never get the unwavering defense of him that some make.

Yeah..I'm pretty good at separating people from their art but..it's baffling this dude did what he did, fled, got away with it and "respectable" figures in Hollywood still praise/work with him..

The baffling thing about Roman Polanski is that his victim has been among his defenders for a long time.

Hollywood is a cesspool of evil, hypocritical monsters who will defend known creeps/felons and who will insult/attack anyone who doesn't fall in line with their mob mentality as it relates to various issues/viewpoints

There are plenty of people who went let go what Lesnar said in a SI interview nearly 14 years ago but remain quiet when AJ Styles saying homophobic slurs as an insult two years ago. People play favorites all the time both ends on the political spectrum

So, I was digging through the archives and found my essay on the thread where we discussed Jeremy Clarkson getting tossed from BBC, and how I mentioned that victims of abuse (sexual and otherwise) are often the villains of the story because people don't want their idols to fall.
We haven't gotten there yet, but we sure have made it safer for people to admit these situations without fear of retribution from fanatics. Now if only people can understand that nothing is sacred, life will be easier.

The baffling thing about Roman Polanski is that his victim has been among his defenders for a long time. I don't think she's a defender as much as she just wants to move on from it. Pretty much as Samantha Gailey has publicly stated that she has long moved on with her life and doesn't want her family to be dragged into a media circus.

To me, it's a reason why they should've never released her name. If no one stands trial, it's bullshit to release names, no matter how late after the fact.

Polanski defenders usually frame it in the context of "he's a talented artist" to which I ask, what if he was a talented baker instead?
If he was highly skilled at making delicious Cornish pasties, would anyone offer the counter argument that his rape of a child, and possibly rape and sexual abuse of others who have made similar allegations, is balanced by his high quality savoury dishes?

Judge changed his mind after accepting the plea bargain and was pushing for 50 years in prison. He'd still be there.

And now Sylvester Stallone is being accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl back in the 1980s
I think at this point, this should just become the one all-encompassing thread for this. Its basically become that way already.

And now apparently Al Franken That one was the shortest, most boring scandals ever. Accusation, apology, apology accepted in about a three hour timeline.

Al Franken is a US Senator so it will probably linger even if she already accepted his apology. And that's all I'm going to say about that as we're already flirting with the "no politics" rule because of Franken's position as a senator.
